The work commenced in a timely manner, and I was kept well informed of the schedule. My deck is on a second story and there was a beautiful tree right smack in their way. Joe, Edgar, and Dave worked around and preserved the tree in its entirety. Also I told them that my father had done some work on my previous deck and the job foreman, Joe, very kindly saved a piece of my fathers work - it meant a lot to me. The job was completed on schedule. A new deck is a great investment in your home, and with composite, it's so nice not to have to hassle with staining and/or peeling paint. A new composite deck was a big investment, but very well worth it. Long story short, way too pricey for the rough end result, and horrid communication and follow-through. The following is for those who want the gory details, otherwise the photos should attest to the final product. > > 3R was the priciest of the four bids we got, but we chose them based on reviews. Poor communication made it hard to coordinate our job schedules to accommodate their work. Just 2 days in when we were told the crew would return to finish the demo on the existing patio, no one showed up, and when we inquired we were told that the subs work was done so they weren’t returning, contradicting what we were told. > > They were forthright about not having cut the patio to the original design specs, and to their credit, they gave us an extra foot of width to clear the patio at no charge. While nice, I could see with my plain eye that the deck frame wasn't square, and they told me it was because the house’s foundation was bowed. Huh? The house is new, and there's zero to suggest it isn't straight or square. They made no offer to rectify it. In retrospect, we should have demanded it given what we paid. Even if the house wasn’t square, shouldn’t a 5-star decking company easily be able to work with that? > > Despite having their “best man” on the job, there were many fit and finish issues. Fascia corners poorly aligned, several deck boards were cut too short, the high-end deck boards bowed in one area, and several fascia, deck boards, and rail cables came loose, which we sought to remedy through a warranty claim. > > I emailed their requested photos of the problem areas on Thursday, 6/1, and were told Monday, 6/5, that their foreman would be in touch by end of week to schedule a visit. Through 6/19 there’s NO communication. I email and receive a reply Thursday, 6/22, that the foreman’s truck broke down. Ok, it happens, but why no message about this for TWO WEEKS until I finally reached out? They then set a visit for 6/28 between 12-1pm. I asked that the foreman text my wife that day when his ETA is clearer since we have a baby and want to work around his naps. "Will do!" they said. > > 6/28 comes, and NOTHING. Instead of running errands, my wife felt compelled to stay home in case they showed up late. By late afternoon I email asking why the no-show and make it clear we're unhappy with the repeated poor communication and flakiness. The next day, we're again told that their trucks broke down and that someone will reach out to us "no later than next week." Trucks again? Really? And no message not to expect their SCHEDULED visit that day? > > It's now Monday, 7/10, well on the other side of “no later than next week.” We’ve AGAIN had ZERO contact from 3R. We now must pay for another company for something that should’ve been remedied on warranty because we’re done dealing with their disregard and shoddy work. 3R’s done a 5-star job of treating us like garbage. **★★★★★ — ajit01, Feb. 2022** > Last year, my wife and I decided to replace all five decks — about 1500 square feet — on our 40-year-old house. It was a complex project, because three of the decks are 20 to 30 feet off the ground, and scaffolding would be required to reach them. Jim Gates at Three Rivers worked with us to specify the design, materials and plan for the new decks, promptly and patiently responding to our numerous questions about materials and construction. We contacted some of the references Jim provided, and looked at several decks built by Three Rivers: all the due-diligence was very positive. Jim skillfully shepherded the project through the lengthy, complex permitting process, work started in early November 2021, and was completed by Christmas. There were no surprises, and the work was completed quickly, efficiently, accurately, and within the agreed budget. The crew – Pancho, Justin, Edgar, Dave and Matt – are consummate professionals and craftsmen: thorough, meticulous, precise and accurate. Their attention to detail is exceptional. Jim and Matt — the project manager — were very proactive about keeping us informed throughout the planning, permitting and construction process.
