> I contacted Evans woodworking based on the reviews from Houzz. My husband is a Contractor and we usually use his sources, but I admired some of the work I saw on their website. I contacted them and they came out promptly for an estimate for my bathrooms. I was not ready for my kitchen, but they suggested we go ahead and measure so they could give me a quote. I explained I was in need of making a decision soon and they assured me, they would get back to me with some figures. It has been 2 1/2 weeks, I emailed pictures of my ideas and left a message inquiring as to a time line...I have not had any response from them. No quotes, no phone call saying they were sorry they are overloaded, nothing.. If you can't get a price from them, how do you expect to get work done from them?

> We recently completed construction of our new home in Carlsbad, CA. Evans Woodworking built and installed the cabinets for our kitchen, dining room and baths. The design was a Shaker with soft close hinges and drawers. The quality of the work was excellent. The installers did a wonderful job. The entire team was very professional and easy to work with. I would definitely contract with them again for a new project.

**Comment from Evans Woodworking Inc:**

> Thanks Griff!
> You have a spectacular home that will be in style for many decades to come.

> I highly reccomend Evans wood working. They did a fantastic job from everything to he cabinet design, speed in getting the cabinets done, installing and finishing. The cabinets were top notch and high quality, I was very happy with the professionalism, yet down to earth staff that guided me through the whole process. Brock Beeson took a very stressful situation of designing a kitchen for me and made it enjoyable, fun and took all my ideas and made them a reality in the space I had. I absolutely LOVE my cabinets, the design and attention to detail. Again thank you Evans I enjoyed your entire staff!

Every detail was thought out and I appreciated the extra time they took to make sure we were happy with the finish! Everyone who helped was professional and no detail was overlooked. We will definitely use them again for further projects.

> I can't say enough good things about Evan's woodworking. I searched everywhere for a wood countertops company and luckily found these guys. Brock was amazing to work with. I had a specific color and wood in mind and he didn't give up until he found it. It turned out beautiful!

> We could not be happier with the work that Evan's Woodworking did to restore two of our bathrooms. Our new cabinets are beautiful, durable, and utilize hardware that I never thought we would have deserved. You cannot imagine our excitement at how smoothly and quietly all of the drawers and cabinets close. We will be especially grateful for those quiet close features once the kids get old enough to start slamming things...
>
> Brock could not have been more helpful and accommodating in helping with recommendations to keep us within our budget, and our installers, Dean and Steve, were extremely friendly and professional.
>
> We would not hesitate to use their services again, and we would absolutely recommend them to friends and family that are wanting a quality product from local professionals.

> Only use Evans Woodworking if you want a truly professional job. They are creative with design ideas, skillful and clean with installation and overall the teams was nice and easy to work with on my kitchen remodel. I only wish that I had more jobs for them to do at my house. I highly recommend Evans Woodworking.

> I had a custom shelf built, and hired Evans to build it for me...I was so impressed with the beautiful work they did...way exceeded my expectation. Which is rare amongst contractors these days. Their work was exactly what I asked for, clean, finished and their staff from Brock to Steve who hung the piece, and of course Nathan...all were involved as if this was a huge project. I'll use them for all my projects and refer them to all who ask. You won't be disappointed!

## Community Q&A

**Q: what are the dimensions of this room?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The island is aprox 42" X 72" overall

**Q: Contractor question for all** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Is it unreasonable for me to tell my contractor that I want to see my semi elaborate wood hood/corbels etc installed before I decide what design/tile etc I want beneath the hood? It is a very large area and I really need to see the range and hood in place to get a feel of what would work. He can't seem to understand this--am I wrong?

A: No, not at all. We dot this all the time.

**Q: Kitchen Remodel - $30,000 for cabinets and granite** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am planning to totally remodel my kitchen. We are knocking out a wall and will have a kitchen with an 11 foot island. Something like 77 lineal feet of cabinets with an entry mudroom bench and broom closet.
I was hoping to have all plywood cabinets (we will likely be in our home another 10 plus years) and either granite or quartz tops.
We can't beat back our cabinetry, countertop and install price of $30,000 regardless (both Lowes and the designer were $30,000 installed). Class A granite at designer and Class C at Lowes. I guess there might be a savings at Lowes if I go to Class A granite. I was told at Lowes that quartz prices will match those of granite.
I also gave the plan set to a custom cabinet builder (haven't gotten an estimate back yet, but I'm betting it will be even more).
Has anyone seen these prices and mid range cabinet prices and then gone to Ikea? We have them at my workplace and they've been installed for about 3 years now. I'm impressed.
But, I'm wondering if they will be any cheaper? Advice? Thoughts?

A: wait.. 13,000 for installation?! We are a full custom shop with 4 full time installers and installation is aprox 10% of the proposal. I feel some shops will hide some costs in the installation in order for the cabinet price to appear lower, be careful of that.

**Q: Help! Front deck/porch color** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Can't use white except door color. Considering blue-gray, natural wood color (need suggestion on which wood color!) or red again. Could paint railing one color and floor another color. Mail box gray, lamp post previous red color. Trying to make my entrance come alive. Thank you for your help.

A: I like wood in a natural state whenever possible on high traffic items. Paint will chip/ wear in the path you take everyday and will make the deck look older than it is. I would do a low sheen clear waterproof deck sealer.

**Q: What is an acceptable difference in sample and installed cabinet stain** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I recently had my lovely kitchen cabinets installed. When the doors were installed, one door was much lighter than the others. That one lighter door was the color of the sample I based my choice on.
I was quite disappointed by the color, I wanted the modern washed out look. After looking at other queries on Houzz, I understand about variations in stain on wood, etc, etc, and there is certainly some lighter and darker pieces, which is fine, but just how much of a difference is acceptable?
The wood is maple, the stain is husk, they are a semi custom cabinet, ( learned they are manufactured by Mid Continent, distributed to my contractor by Wolf) so not high end, but really quite nice. I am happy with their quality.
Should I insist on having the darkest ones replaced?
What would be reasonable in my request to the contractor?
This is the sample I based my choice on:Thanks for any perspective you can give me.

A: yes they should correct it, it is nowhere near the sample in both color and consistency. The mottling alone would justify a redo.

**Q: What do you think of this kitchen transformation?** *(in Before & After)*

A: Well done!
