The skylight required connecting the house roof to the kitchen ceiling with a tunnel. At the tunnel's highest point, the wall is a bit over 9' from the kitchen ceiling - very dramatic! While we couldn't use the dining room, he did convert the utility room and part of the garage to enlarge our kitchen. I wanted to keep our washer/dryer on the first floor. We also wanted an island or peninsula to eat at versus an eat-in dining area. He came up with a very clever solution by extending the counter space to create an island type space. In addition, on one wall he suggested a narrow china cabinet so we could display some antique china. We used the same flooring in the kitchen and dining room to allow the room to flow. People who have gutted their kitchens told us it would take 4-5 months. Matt told us our project would take 6-7 weeks, and he was spot on. Matt and his crew were terrific! Every night they would clean up their daily mess. They were super polite and extremely professional. I would not hesitate to recommend Philbin Construction for any project. He and his nephew Matt over the years have added a kitchen skylight, removed paneling & added 2 new windows in our family room. Added an exhaust fan in the master bathroom. Replaced windows in our basement/living & dining rooms, installed new outer doors, sidelight, & new screen doors. Replaced siding and had exteriors of wood windows aluminum wrapped. Designed & installed a composite deck and added some fencing to create separate areas for our greyhounds and the fosters. Also have used their services as handyman to secure a light fixture in my Mom’s flexicore ceiling at her condo and replace a garbage disposal. If there was ever any problem or question, I call Jack or Matt first and the situation always gets resolved quickly and happily. Their contracts are written in detail so there’s no question as to what/how the project will be staged, etc. Clean-up is never an issue with Philbin’s work crew. We have been thoroughly pleased with their work and the products they offer/use.
