> I received a lot of compliments on the design - however there were many short-comings on workmanship: including numerous floor tiles that lifted, eavestrough that dripped and caused erosion along foundation, all of the top rows of shakes and siding fell off, and there are numerous deficiencies in the roofing. \[The original roofing contractor ignored my calls, but a new roofing contractor did eventually show up and repair torn shingles and covered nails.\] Many of the wall edges and drywall tape peeled soon after moving in. Cable and telephone pre-wiring was missed completely which has been a major inconvenience. Many of the windows were not properly sealed and cold air seeps in when the wind blows. Bathroom cabinet doors stick when there is humidity. Company promised stone window sills but did not honour. Also, watch out for double-billing between sub-contractors for hydro trenching and backfill, water pump and gravel. The backfill around the foundation was terrible making lawn care dangerous.

## Community Q&A

**Q: How can I update this kitchen to 2013?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Want gas range, can sacrifice some windows for vent, want to brighten things up, repurpose any cabinetry, lose island upper but not storage, layout is tight & 1980 codes, want to keep charm to this historic home

A: Hi, If you don't want to buy new cabinets I would suggest to paint the cabinets, change the hardware and counter tops. That will be the most economical fix. Also, if could you sacrifice losing the upper cabinet over island, it's closing off the area. If you really need that cupboard space then possibly you could relocate it to the wall and lose a window.
