### Reviews

**★★★★★ — John Zuchero, May 2024**

> From Zach who estimated the project to Jeremiah who installed the doors on existing bathroom cabinets (also constructed by Hayes) the entire project was smoothly accomplished and the finished doors are beautiful. It was a tough job because the doors had to match the existing African wood grain and color. The team did a super job of finding the wood, making sure the grain and stain matched, and installing so no opening would be seen between the doors. Excellence in every way.

> Our kitchen designer guided us toward Hayes Cabinets (and Michelle) early in the process and am glad she did. Expectations (e.g. delivery timeline, design and cabinet quality/finish, installation) were met/exceeded and the follow up customer service was exceptional. Very pleased with our finished kitchen and laundry room; Michelle and Jim were two of the Hayes team who were instrumental in making that happen!

> Hayes Cabinets provided all of the cabinetry for our new Engineering and Manufacturing facility in Vancouver Washington. This included a reception area, 2 work rooms, 2 break rooms, 3 conference rooms, 7 bathrooms, and 2 Shop coffee stations that would make any barista proud!
>
> We had a distinctive modern manufacturing theme in mind and Ryan and Zach worked with us to define a new stain color that blended perfectly with our building. They also worked with us to provide the most cost effective solutions to fit our budget constraints. We are very happy with the results and would highly recommend them.

> Hayes cabinets did an outstanding job renovating our outdated bathrooms. The cabinets are beautiful and so are the countertops. The most impressive part about working with Hayes was the quality of customer service they provided. The office staff was friendly and Zach the Sales and Design guy was incredible. He did a great job designing our cabinets while staying within our budget. He kept us informed every step of the way which made the whole interaction great. We are very happy with Hayes and will look to them to remodel our kitchen in the upcoming future.

> Working with Hayes and Katherine Garrett has been a complete pleasure. Katherine is very professional and skilled, we appreciated her suggestions regarding design that all turned out better than expected. We worked with many subs for our project and by far Hayes outshined in terms of quality and workmanship. Installers were great and they arrived on the day(s) they promised showing customer respect. Greatly appreciated!

> We met with both the salesperson and the owner. They had granite onsite, Thry.also recommended other sources for granite if we didn't like what they had. We were very happy with what they had. They came out to our home and measured everything and made templates. They came out a day later and installed granite in.our kitchen and two bathrooms.
> The installers were awesome. They did an excellent.job. We are very pleased with the produ ts and the people that.did all.of the work for us.

> I have used them 2 times for remodels of our kitchens in 2 homes. They are terrific.David is a jewel. He came up with amazing ideas for my powder bath.
> I was trying to make a "furniture" piece and he had some great concepts that fit the bill. The fact that they paint at their facility is great for quality control as well as accuracy of matching the color swatches that they have created.
> Their installations are completely on time and efficient. Quality team through out the process.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Room Dimensions Please?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Wow! This is a stunning room!! We are working on the design for our new build, and I would love to know the dimensions for this kitchen if you could share! I'm most interested in the width of the kitchen... even if it's a rough guess. Thanks for your time!

A: Just a guess, this is a huge room. Larger than the typical kitchen, I would say 20' by 30'

**Q: New Home - kitchen renovation** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My wife and I are planning on remodeling our cramped U shaped kitchen.

We would like to make the U a bit larger and keep the breakfast nook. We would also like to open up the kitchen to the dinning and living room. We are open to any ideas on how to open up the space more.

Thanks in advance

A: I would remove the living and nook walls and add a large island that will seat 5 or 6

**Q: can't find a stud finder that works on lath and plaster** *(in Design Dilemma)*

electronic ones are useless. Magnet ones are too weak

A: That's because you probably have chicken wire behind the plaster. Find a stud with a drill and then go 16" on center from there to start. Unless you are hanging a cast iron stove the lath should be strong enough?

**Q: Deciding on kitchen cabinets** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are getting ready to replace our kitchen cabinets. I really like the sleek shiny euro look. After discussing the options with a local cabinet maker, he is recommending laminate. What are the pros and cons of using laminate?

A: Laminate and thermo-foil are two totally different animals. Be sure you know what you are buying. Thermo-foil has some issues that laminate does not if done properly.

**Q: Hardwood floor color matching kitchen cabinets.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am not sure what color flooring I should pick to match cabinets. I was looking at a bloodwood which is very red and I don't know if it will match. I really am not sure if I went with oak what stain to match with. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A: I agree with Lampert. Floors should not match, they should contrast, and compliment.

**Q: 8' or 9' foot ceilings in new house?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My husband and I are building a new house, should be complete in about 5 months. We were all set to take the standard 8' since other options weren't really discussed and that is what we have in our current smaller house and we're used to it.

Then last week our family room ceiling collapsed (always fun when your house is on the market!) and after the repair I got the tape measure out and realized our ceilings are actually 8'5".

Now I'm thinking 8' will feel so much smaller and we should pay the extra $3500 for 9' on the first floor. I'm trying to keep our upgrades under control however. Our builder thinks we done need it since or family room is 16' that it will really "open up" the rest of the first floor anyway.

I don't ever want to move again, we're really trying to build a forever house, so resale isn't an issue, I just don't want to regret it later if it would have felt much better in the long run.

I appreciate any advice! I've attached the layout of our first floor for reference.

A: 9 foot ceilings definitely but don't feel obligated to run the cabinets all the way up. you get a very nice look with 2 cabinet heights neither of which is to the ceiling. I suggest all the 12" deep uppers go to 7'6", all the deeper cabs go to 8'. Tell your builder that 9' ceilings should have been automatic!
