**★★★★★ — Jasmine Smith, April 2020**

> I recently had a phone consultation with Andrea of Inner Space Designs. After purchasing a new statement piece for my living room, I wanted an expert opinion on a set of curtains that would complement my space. This was my first experience consulting with an interior designer, and needless to say, the process was efficient and pleasant.
>
> I sent Andrea a set of photos of my space and shortly after we met for a phone call. Andrea was extremely professional and knowledgeable. She offered design suggestions that worked within my budget and also more importantly, my aesthetic. Andrea shared insights that would help maximize the appearance of a relatively small space and helped me select a set of curtains that would accentuate my home’s eclectic bohemian vibe. Andrea really honed into what brings me joy and the function of my space.
>
> For young professionals or for those who are wanting to cultivate a curated space on a budget, this is a wonderful service. Additionally, for those that love bohemian interior design, from macramé to decadent textiles to layered textures, Andrea will help you cultivate an un-conventional and personality filled space.

**Comment from INNER SPACE DESIGNS:**

> Thank you for the kind words Jasmine. It was a pleasure guiding you through the design process and empowering you to move forward with your project. I was happy to share some of the more technical aspects of installations etc. too. When executed properly, these details are what provide a more refined outcome, creating that customized space. All the best!

> Loved working with Inner Space Designs. It was like I was Andrea’s only client (though I wasn’t) because of her prompt attention and detailed updates every step of the way. I’m one of those people who likes to design everything themselves. Andrea showed me that her knowledge of materials (and access to find them) surpassed what I had access to — this really matters. Thank you, Inner Space Designs!

**Comment from INNER SPACE DESIGNS:**

> I feel designing one's home should be a collaborative process. It was a pleasure bringing your concept to life and doing so in a way that exceeded your expectations is a great compliment. Thank you!

> Andrea SAVED our studio. My wife and I put our life savings into the construction of a Yoga and Barre studio, along with a full commercial kitchen and wine bar. Once we had the skeleton built, our anxiety increased over the overall feel and concept for our members. So thanks to a friend's recommendation, we brought Andrea in to help. To say that she helped is an understatement...she absolutely nailed what we wanted but could not articulate. From the paint colors to the lighting (GORGEOUS) to just the overall feel of what we wanted...amazing!
>
> On top of it all, she showed up numerous times to walk through the concepts with us and understand our budget since we are a true small business with no loans or "Big Daddy"-type of funds available.
>
> And the cherry on top was her commitment to come take a class! LOVE Andrea and highly recommend her!!

**Comment from INNER SPACE DESIGNS:**

> Thank you Cisco and Shay!
> Working with you two was such a joy. Designing the 2 studios, the reception area, and multiple lounge spaces, not to mention the bathrooms, changing areas, and addressing storage needs was a welcomed challenge. You really stayed focused and committed to the concept which helped the project stay on schedule. What a great experience! Kudos!

> Andrea with Inner Space Designs was a great addition to the team that worked on a bathroom remodel in the Mt Baker neighborhood. Together, Inner Space Design and Wulff Contracting LLC were given the challenge of remodeling a bathroom with very limited space and many constraints but with Andrea's creativity and ability to incorporate the clients needs and wants into a beautifully designed space made my job as the contractor easier. Andrea was responsive with any questions we had and worked quickly to problem solve any challenges that presented themselves. I would definitely recommend Andrea to clients in the future, and I'm sure we will be working on more projects in the near future.

**Comment from INNER SPACE DESIGNS:**

> Thank you Kwaku, your partnership was a huge asset. Anything is possible with an open and willing attitude.

> Andrea worked with us when we built our house. We had never undertaken a project like this before and she worked with me and helped me with all the interior aspects of the house. Andrea took the time to listen and if I wasn't sure about round one, she happily went back to the drawing board until I was satisfied with the look for each room. She worked tirelessly to secure good products for us and had everything organized to such a degree that even my builder was impressed. When it came time to work on the inside, everything was there and ready to go with exact instructions. He commented that he had never had a designer be so organized before. Our relationship with Andrea has continued to the point that now my daughter wants to use her when she finally gets her own house and is ready to decorate. I highly recommend her services.

**Comment from INNER SPACE DESIGNS:**

> Thank you Lynn. Due to the large floor plan, maintaining a natural flow from room to room, while treating each room with different color and style was key to creating a comfortable home that reflected your family travels and collections. It was a great experience!

**★★★★★ — andrea, April 2015**

> I highly recommend Andrea for your future design projects. She is great at working with her customers to find their tastes and then recommend the appropriate step in your redesign. We have thrilled with her suggestions and direction.

**★★★★★ — design4theworld, Feb. 2015**

> Andrea has her finger on the pulse of contemporary design, bringing with it a vast knowledge of design history with a special interest in mid-century modern. Her diverse design experience, construction knowledge, and open perspective give her the proficiency to answer your needs as well as address issues that may not have been considered.
>
> Andrea always holds the big picture while paying attention to every detail, including cost. Being resourceful, she can ensure your budget will be met.
>
> I held two art show/parties in a 100 year old wooden warehouse and asked Andrea to own its look and feel. She came up with a detailed plan, including layout for the catering, bar, DJ booth, and art gallery, paying attention to the flow of traffic. She directed the lighting, placement of the art, and added extra interest to the space using items found in the warehouse. Working within a tight budget, she created a lively inviting warm space resulting in enthusiastic success.
>
> Simply put, Andrea is an interior designer.

**★★★★★ — toshyr, Jan. 2015**

> Andrea was great to work with. My favorite thing was that we began the project with very different ideas; instead of pushing her goals on me, she really listened to my ideas and came up with brilliant ways of incorporating them into a beautiful, and very functional, bathroom!

**★★★★★ — Sound Painting Solutions, LLC, Jan. 2015**

> We recently worked with Andrea on an interior design project in Seattle. She is always very in touch with her client’s needs and has an excellent eye for detail and color. Beautiful work and a joy to collaborate with.

 - Description: This 2 bedroom unit was brought to life with the use of color, vintage items and unique finds mixed with basic (but stylish) items from typical box stores. After a space analysis I was confident to quickly select necessary furnishings, accessories and artwork for a curated and personal look. I created an overall theme of discovery, exploration, and adventure. Nautical vibes are more prominent in the main living/dining rooms as this home is near the Seattle waterfront, located in the Belltown nei…
- [Belltown Condo Refresh](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/belltown-condo-refresh-pj-vj~2883050)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 10
 - Description: This condo needed updated finishes, fixtures & appliances. Quartz countertops and backsplashes simplify the cozy kitchen & bath areas. New flooring throughout offers a slight rustic nature while a soft grey color on the walls and fresh white ceilings bring a crisp soothing vibe to the unit. New blinds and base trim throughout were installed and the fireplace received a fresh coat of bright white paint.
- [Francis Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/francis-residence-pj-vj~995338)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 17
 - Description: First we gave the whole home a fresh coat of paint, with a bright accent color in the living/dining room. A custom built fireplace incorporated a reclaimed wormwood mantel. Mosaic tile was added to the upper wall creating a stunning floor to ceiling focal point. Then we tackled the kitchen. By removing a closet we opened up the view corridor allowing natural light from the deck to filter deeper into the living/dining space. One of the challenges was saving the bamboo flooring as we wanted to ret…

 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 8
 - Description: Depth and richness was achieved with dark espresso cabinetry and beautiful mocha and charcoal veined Ceasarstone quartz counters. Bright white subway tile paired with metallic and slate colored mosaic strips add personality, tying in the other metal accents in the home. We maintained the original cabinetry footprint to keep the existing tile floor. Although the space is compact, the galley kitchen offers plenty of storage with lower pull out drawers vs cabinet shelving, customized spice rack, a…
- [Master Bath Goes Modern](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/master-bath-goes-modern-pj-vj~916183)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 11
 - Description: Although the clients love their home, the way it's positioned on the golf course, the pool and outdoor entertaining area, as well as the open floor pan, the master bath was just plain awkward. A corner tub wasn't necessary and taking up valuable floor space while the make-up vanity behind the bathroom door caused the entry and shower space to feel claustrophobic. They were craving modern sleek lines, dark wood and dramatic features.
- [Mt. Baker Bathroom](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/mt-baker-bathroom-pj-vj~863634)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 16
 - Description: A small bathroom gets a big improvement with the addition of a shower, skylights, and a custom sliding barn door using reclaimed wood planks. The client wanted a bathroom that was not only functional but also offered a large window to provide natural light and air flow to the upstairs hall and master bedroom. A shower and suitable storage were also necessary. The challenge was working within the existing footprint. Keeping materials simple, with small scale fixtures and fittings, as well as crea…

 - Description: E-design is a fast growing area of the design industry. This design-in-a-box or online packaged design method will usually include story boards, floor plans, installation instructions and a shopping list, to direct the client in obtaining and implementing the proposed design plan. Here, I share my story boards and 3D drawings created for clients around the country.
- [Artist Studio Launch Party](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/artist-studio-launch-party-pj-vj~916425)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 27
 - Description: I had the opportunity to turn a 6000+ SF raw warehouse space into an intimate evening for 200 guests. I began by creating vignettes where guests could explore, lounge, eat, imbibe, dance, or play. I used what was available, boxes, cans, tarps, gates, light fixtures, wood scraps, a metal trough, and other cool finds to divide up the space and create a welcoming atmosphere that was comfortable, appropriate, and intriguing.
- [A Traveler's Treasures](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/a-traveler-s-treasures-pj-vj~480756)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 2
 - Description: The client is a world traveler with an art collection as diverse as the continents he's visited. The stairwell was the most challenging area to organize and showcase his treasures. The lighting (both natural and artificial) was a major consideration when balancing the placement of art pieces, while also keeping in mind particular colors, content, textures, and proportions of each piece.
- [Bill's on Greenwood](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/bill-s-on-greenwood-pj-vj~907277)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 30
 - Description: Bill's is a well loved local sports bar establishment on Capitol Hill. Their second location in Greenwood posed the challenge of creating a space that felt like their original space but with a more unified palette for a newer market. Their chosen space was long and narrow. I designed three dining zones to give the overall space visual interest: low bench seats down the right side, tables and chairs in the center, and high bistro seating along the left wall. We repurposed old gymnasium floors and…
- [Capitol Hill Condo Conversion](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/capitol-hill-condo-conversion-pj-vj~903151)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 23
 - Description: This nine unit apartment building was converted into condos. Updating the cabinets, finishes, fixtures, flooring and appliances were key. However, eliminating the overhead kitchen cabinets and supporting walls made the biggest impact as the space instantly felt twice as large. The bathrooms incorporated natural stone accents with porcelain tiles, simple clean fixtures and oval mirrors. Each bank of units was treated slightly different for added interest and personality. Three schemes were develo…
- [The Lake House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/the-lake-house-pj-vj~922238)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 23
 - Description: The mid-century dwelling was dubbed The Lake House for its proximity to Greenlake in the Seattle area. The unit offered charming features such as the original floor to ceiling flagstone fireplace, entry, & dining flooring, an open floor plan, & loads of natural light. Unusually textured walls & an accordion screen added interest. However charming this all seemed, it needed a lot of work. By painting accent colors, upgrading the windows and trim, refreshing the bathrooms with new lighting, fixtur…
- [Babyface Skincare](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/babyface-skincare-pj-vj~922176)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 4
 - Description: "B" is for Babyface. Located in an older building that had been redesigned, this studio space lacked interest and felt sterile. The faint pale blue color selection had a calming effect while the use of a turquoise vintage chair and a collection of bird cages added a little personality. Various found letter B's were layered up to coincide with the logo. Ultimately, a privacy curtain will be added as well as draperies to soften the space more.
- [Garrett Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/garrett-residence-pj-vj~924189)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 5
 - Description: This project is in progress. These are the concept drawings. The client retreats to this lower level space to work, read, and relax. Wanting to bring this space together in a cohesive way, I used his art collection as a spring board, developing my color scheme from there. Adding a wall of shelves is an important design element as it will display his collections and books. Starting with the pre-existing sofa and club chair, I oriented the space to accommodate a long, low entertainment center. To…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Cabinet** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you tell me where this cabinet came from?

A: It was from Urban Reclamations in Seattle

**Q: What is the make and model of the chandelier? Beautiful! Thanks** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: is that a 1x4 shiplap?

**Q: Need help on my small condo** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Unfortunately the pieces you see have to stay...tried to jazz up the leather swivel club chairs but not sure if it is working or how to pull the room together.

A: Can you tighten up the seating group, bring the sofa closer to the tv & column, flank the chairs on either side of the fireplace? Keep the dining table up against the wall behind the sofa w/ the chandelier in its natural position. Maybe it's just the angle of the photos, the seating groups looks rather spaced out. A smaller scale cocktail & end tables will be great, balancing out the hefty sofa & chairs. I love the idea of a cowhide because of it's irregular shape. A square/rectangle rug just adds to the rigidity of the space.

**Q: color to paint kitchen?? HELP** *(in Design Dilemma)*

any ideas on what color to paint this kitchen?

A: Hello! If you haven't decided on a color yet, look at a color wheel chart. Your kitchen/dining area will feel more open & brighter if you explore greens & blues for the walls (which look great w/ chocolate brown curtains, maple cabinets, & the multitude of reddish/brown/beige tones in the counter material. If you can acquire samples of your countertop & tile floor, take them with you to the paint store. Select all the blues & greens that are appealing- don't be too discerning right now- just let your eyes & heart select color swatches. The reason I say not to hyper analyze your color choices at the store is because of the lighting. You really need to see the colors in your own space, at night & during the day, when it's sunny or grey. As someone else suggested, once you pick your final 2 or 3 faves, buy the sample sizes & paint them up on scrap wood or poster board. Move them about to get a sense of how the color will change. \*Make sure you are orienting your painted up sample boards vertically. This may seem obvious but so often folks analyze color on the same plane with their samples forgetting that the paint will be perpendicular to the countertops & floor surfaces. (Again this goes back to lighting- the angle it hits the wall, natural vs incandescent, direct vs indirect, etc). Lastly, I love Benjamin Moore paints. They offer the best sheens & finishes, various price levels, low & zero VOC options, & their product has the best coverage- meaning less gallons for the job! Check em out! All the best!

**Q: Can you please tell me the color of the brick and the shutters.** *(in Photo Questions)*

Building a new home and love the color combination

A: What a beautiful home and property!!! Wow! Who did the shutters? I need interior shutters and doors for a project. Thanks!
