> I would highly recommend Pacific Dream Builders to anyone looking for beautiful workmanship done very professionally. They stand by their work and are easy to work with. I am extremely happy with our all wood cabinets made from beautiful wood. These are NOT veneer. David and Janine also made helpful suggestions that met my needs, including a wonderful pull down for short people like myself. Can't say enough good things about this company. Wish i had another kitchen!

**Comment from Pacific Coast Cabinetry:**

> Mahalo Barbara! Your selection of solid African Mahogany with stain is one of our favorites as well. We hope that you enjoy your kitchen for many years, but if you decide to move, we will be here for your next kitchen renovation.

> David and Janine created beautiful bathroom cabinets for my home. They were extremely professional and helpful. I couldn't be happier with their product and service. They even fixed a problem with my kitchen cabinets (that they did not install) at no cost. Thanks so much.

> After researching several cabinet builders it was clear that the craftsmanship, customer service, quality and ease of Pacific Dream Builders far exceeds the rest. The price was actually less then the quote we received from another custom cabinet business who manufactures their products oversees. Pacific Dream Builders is a local business- they build their products in Waipahu! Our cabinets were a splurge for us but 100% worth it! They are beautiful, unique and unbelievably well built. On top of loving our cabinets- Janine, David & Kai are all amazing to work with! They are passionate about their trade and think outside of the box and are always up for a challenge and trying something new which no doubt turns out beautiful. Janine and David were so much fun to work but also very professional- Janine is always quick to respond to you and they take their time to make sure everything is perfect. I couldn't be happier with Pacific Dream Builders!

**Comment from Pacific Coast Cabinetry:**

> Mahalo for the rave review!! We really enjoyed your unique design ideas and 'out of the box' plan. So happy that we were able to help bring it all to life. We hope your family enjoys that home for many years to come. > Pacific Dream Builders built our amazing custom kitchen cabinetry 3 years ago and we just had the opportunity to meet these wonderful people when we asked them to make a matching cabinet door for our bathroom in preparation for the sale of our condo. They were fast, efficient, affordable and made us think twice about selling the condo - their work quality is exceptional!

**Comment from Pacific Coast Cabinetry:**

> Mahalo Nui Loa! You were wonderful to work with as well, we enjoyed the entire family. So rare to build a kitchen and never get a chance to meet the homeowners, it was nice to finally do so. Hope to work with you on your future projects.
> Aloha - David and Janine

**★★★★★ — Jamie Ford, Sept. 2015**

**★★★★★ — Steve Bunting, July 2015**

> This is our second project with Pacific Dream Builders and we couldn't be happier with the results. Just as with our first project, David and Janine took the time to look at my drawings and make several recommendations that greatly increased the functionality and amount of storage space in our kitchen. When my wife and I couldn't decide on the type of wood we wanted, Janine disappeared into the shop and came back with an absolutely beautiful sample of a bleached black walnut. We'd never seen anything like it and had to have it. As busy as they are, they always treat us as if we're their only customers. As with our previous project, the cabinets were ready and installed on the date promised. The cabinets are of very high quality solid and plywood construction and absolutely beautiful. Pacific Dream Builders is a "custom shop" and that's exactly what the finished product will look like in your home or business. Take a look at their Facebook page to see some of their other beautiful and interesting projects.

**Comment from Pacific Coast Cabinetry:**

> Mahalo Steve and Sandi, we are so very happy that you are pleased with your beautiful Tabu cabinetry. We secretly hope that you fall in love with another unit on the other side of your building, so we can work together on a new project soon!

**★★★★★ — stannicken, July 2015**

> Everything looks beautiful. The fit and finish is perfect, without any minor flaws anywhere. All the cabinetry was custom hand-crafted and fit upon installation. Afterwards, anything that needed adjustments were done with skill and quality, and at no extra cost. Also, extras were installed at no extra cost like the tilt-out sink fronts. The Laws are great to deal with and fun too.

**Comment from Pacific Coast Cabinetry:**

> Mahalo Stan and Nikki for your kind words and for always being so wonderful to work with. We really enjoyed working with you on the design of your special display \[storage\] cabinet, the true louvers doors and the fun little fold down table in the laundry. Your home winning a BIA award shows that you both put in much effort to bring the old into the new and create a beautiful home with Ryan, Chris and Luke - Aloha.

**★★★★★ — kayce03, June 2015**

> David and Janine were terrific to work with. This was the last stop we made after looking at all the big box stores and discount vendors around town and being disappointed with the quality of the product. We almost didn't stop in because we were sure we could never afford custom cabinetry. I'm so glad we did. The pricing was much more reasonable than I thought, and most of all, the cabinets are gorgeous.

**Comment from Pacific Coast Cabinetry:**

> Mahalo Kayce! You were GREAT customers as well! We enjoyed discussing your vision for the house and watching it all come together. I think you are also a true testament to Houzz. Your ideabooks really document all of the things you ended up incorporating into your kitchen design. I see many features, colors and styles that look like your kitchen, because you took the time to research. Thanks for calling us again to do the vanity for the master bathroom- we really love the tile and colors your selected in there. It is a beautiful room. We hope you, Matty and Makana enjoy your home for a long time. Aloha!

## Community Q&A

**Q: Design issue?....help!.... interior design help!....** *(in Furniture)*

heres the interior living space of our new home (from the kitchen to the living room and down the hall trying to figure out a furniture interior decorative style and setup when laying out and organizing our couch and two to three chairs .... any suggestions on interior decorating and design I’m a landscaper where I’m used to laying out and plants playing in dirt not much experience when it comes to interior design area....

A: I don't understand the island, dining room table and bar - are any of these built in? If the entertainment center is built in where you show it- you will need chairs to face it. You can have some conversation chairs facing the couch but day to day it will need to be where you have it.

**Q: Would a farmhouse sink look out of place here?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I love the farmhouse style, and have been planning on a farmhouse sink.

However, now that I am looking at the plans, I am just not sure.

The cabinets will be off-white Ikea Bodbyn, and the appliances are stainless steel. I am worried that the bright white farmhouse sink in the off-white cabinets next to a stainless dishwasher and refrigerator just won't look right. The kitchen is small and windowless.

I haven't decided about countertops yet, but I would really like a beadboard backsplash.

The house is a 1950s ranch house-- on a large lot, with chickens in the backyard. :)

Any thoughts? Perhaps a traditional sink would fit in a little better?

A: Be sure that the sink you order will work with your cabinetry. Some of these are frameless cabinets, some have face frames and some are inset. Each will give a different end result - especially with a farm sink. Some of these sinks are like a solid vessel, others have a flange at the sink front which requires a completely different build. If you are working with a custom cabinet builder, you can specify how you want those lower doors to end up, but other than that, you will have limited choices. If you need frame piece on the sides, you will want the same reveal above the doors, so the sink is framed the same all around. If the sink is as wide as the base cabinet, you won't want a reveal above the doors.

**Q: Urgent help need picking a sink** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I picked out granite yesterday and convinced my fabricator to bump my templating & install dates up so we can have a working kitchen before Thanksgiving. They are coming to template on Thursday and installing next Wednesday. I have to give them a decision on a sink ASAP! I could really use some advice.

All 4 pictures have our granite choice (Bianco Antico) with off-white cabinets similar to what we have. Backsplash will probably be a solid-color and fairly simple so it doesn’t compete with the granite.

We will have darker brown colors coming in with a walnut island countertop, medium brown hardwood floors, oil rubbed bronze hardware and light fixtures.

Appliances are stainless steel.

Faucet can go either way - stainless or oil rubbed bronze.

Our sink options are Kraus stainless steel or Silgranit in either biscuit (cream), truffle (light brown) or cafe brown (dark brown). Pictures are just for color reference. The sink will be a 50/50.

Please chime in with advice to help me make this difficult decision. I have not seen any of these sinks in person but they are very popular here on Houzz. Thank you!

**Q: Kitchen Buffet Dilema** *(in Design Dilemma)*

This is a picture from my kitchen counter into the dining room. I would like to put some type of counter on the buffet. Would would you recommend if I am unable to match the quartz? Thank you!

A: We did a wood top on this built in so that it matched the flooring in the dining room.

**Q: 1920's craftsman home with poor quality wood** *(in Paint)*

We bought a 1920's home that has lots of wood that was stained dark brown, it isn't pretty wood. The panels on the tapered columns were made from plywood, don't really like the wide grain of the plywood. I'd say this house wan't top tier in its time. The stains have many different shades and sheen's I'd like to paint it. Is it ok to paint this ugly wood? I've read that black trim brings the outdoor in. We were thinking black or dark gray around the windows, and white for the room dividing columns and floor trim??? Help we will be paint the plaster walls too.

Also the stair case handrail finish is very worn and somewhat sticky. I've seen these painted the dark gray or black and it looks nice.
Help

A: A craftsman home in this condition is a treasure!! What a great score. I hope that you take the advise of other commenters and give yourself some time with it. Search for interior photos others have refinished, maybe you can find a style that brings you into this home without painting. If everything was done in similar tones and the stairs accented with black- you would have a jewel. Keep us posted.

**Q: 1957 Ranch Update - 13 years in the making . . .** *(in Before & After)*

Houzz ate my post 2x. Last try.
We have lived in this house for 13 years and it was in need of an update. Old, tired cabinets, tiny dining area, tough access to basement through garage), 1970 floors, etc.
I'll post some details in the comments if this posts.

A: You will be happy with the Alder- it won't be as dark as the Walnut could have been- plus it is interesting with the floor- neither are monotone. Great job! My alder kitchen must in a 50's ranch house- just with a glaze- I love it.
