We interviewed many companies and went with YardPlus because they were competitively priced and had great reviews. > They were initially wonderful. They came on time, were efficient and seemed very professional. We had sand, loam and sod placed. Watered it like we were directed and didn't walk on it for 3 weeks. Then we finally got to experience our lawn. > To our surprise, the whole yard was lumpy and uneven. I contacted Thomas (the owner) asking if this was normal and if he could come out and take a look. His response was very rude - stating that lumpiness was a risk because we went with sod instead of loam and that he was "not around at all to visit your property". > I asked him to clarify his response because we paid for loam and sod. The conversation ended with "At this point we can't do anything unless you paid me or someone else to remove the sod and regrade and lay new sod again" > Looking back at the pictures I took of their progress, it is very clear that they did not level the loam prior to placing the sod, leaving a lumpy base for the grass to adhere to (see picture). > Needless to say, I do NOT RECOMMEND YardPlus. They are unprofessional with very poor workmanship. I was so surprised that a company with so many great reviews would be this terrible. **Comment from YardPlus, LLC:** > Dear Ms. Huges > Thank you for your comments. I must say I am happy that a forum such as this exists where I can hear any grievances and improve on customer satisfaction directly. I give credit where it's due, I'm grateful for any kind words about the yards we bring to life whenever those come in, and equally so, I can't accept blame where it's not warranted. I'm proud of the work we do and my 15 years of experience allow me to comment credibly on the matters below. > > In this particular case, I recall having spoken with you personally prior to the project starting during which you had asked for asphalt to be removed and then to have sod, sand, loam spread. > My crew and I spent two full days at the house making sure nothing would be missed. The first day we removed many large pieces of asphalt that were 6-8" thick. After we removed the asphalt we later added sand, loam, and the Sod. We carefully graded the loam and sand making sure it was level. Once it was level we then proceeded to lay the Sod. The yard came out amazing! > > I then went on to explain the difference between sod and straight loam. Sod has a 50/50 mixture which consists of sand and loam. Sand by nature is soft and delicate and when installing Sod it acts as a drain so the Sod gets the proper water and the loam is the structure. Now choosing loam, loam is strong and holds a strong structure. It was explained that this takes a little time to settle into place and that one needs to be patient. When working with nature, a little planning, guidance and care will help it take it's course so the comments are a little premature. > > We enjoy helping lawns look their best and we enjoy doing it.
