Once demo started we never saw him again. After 1 year the same issues we had prior to the renovations started appearing (water damage on a wall) and then from there the tiles started feeling loose. We hired someone to come take a look and re-tile for us. It turns out the ground was never properly prepped for the tile and it was all in all a sketchy job. His prices are high and his work is sub par. He doesn't return calls and doesn't stand by his work. When we followed up, both Phil and project manager, Max, blamed the delays on our material orders—however, he took time off without even checking the material status with us. We were constantly informed of site visits or work just hours in advance, with frequent reschedules or no-shows. After we complained, scheduling slightly improved—but only for 2 or 3 days, before things regressed completely. Other similar incidents occurred. For example, when we questioned the project timeline delays, Phil responded: "If you don't want delays, then don't be so picky." > > The most upsetting moment came when my husband asked a simple, polite question to a worker about what steps were left for the ceiling work. Phil overheard and erupted, yelling at my husband in our own home. He is 5' 10", like about 200lbs? I had a panic attack and had to leave. Since then, I’ve struggled to feel comfortable entering the remodeled master bathroom and even needed therapy to process the stress of the project. > > Eventually, we informed Max, that we were terminating the rest of the project. However, the invoice they sent still included charges for the second bathroom and for electrical work that was never done. After two rounds of negotiation, we got a corrected quote. Their finance team responded quickly—but that was the only consistently professional part of the experience. > > The quality of the work? Passable. But for example, after removing a built-in closet, they left the ceiling and floor unfinished. Though Phil promised it would be repaired, nothing happened. We had to ask Max to send different workers to complete and repaint it. You hear all of these nightmare stories about contractors and unless you have a solid word of mouth reference from a person- it is so hard to find a good one. It's hard to trust online reviews when you're about to put so much money into something that has to be done right. We were pretty nervous as we interviewed about 5 different ones. . With Concept they are a one stop shop- complete w design, they help get the permits for you etc. We were doing a total gut renovation on a 1920s Spanish bungalow in Glendale . Their bid was competitive w the rest. We couldn't be happier w the end results and Concept Renovations customer service was excellent and personable- they literally create a text chain for you. When I say excellent I mean WOW. They really really went out of their way for us. People would ask us "oh my god a renovation what a stressful nightmare". My husband and I would respond and just say we have a great team of guys.. it's not a nightmare at all lol. Yes there were hiccups like city of Glendale said we had to upgrade all new electrical panel so that cost extra money. You have to expect some hiccups w a project of this scale - also cabinet maker went past deadline which was out of their control. But literally they stuck very close to budget as best they could - it was a dream having a team of guys like this that you can text- and they don't just work for money they work from their hearts.. Dolev is a one of kind good natured person- God sent us an angel especially given the fact that I was pregnant during the renovation! Dean and Kevin were great too. I give them an A++!! At the end we felt like we were friends w the team. We will be doing more work w them in the future. And oh btw- their workers are straight up artisans (which was something key for me that I was looking for).. Like the sheer details and quality of the work is exactly what I needed to make my Pinterest dreams come true! And trust me I'm pretty picky / particular with the aesthetic that I want. So so happy!
