### Reviews

**★★★★★ — HU-380636979, Sept. 2024**

> I found Qualita on Houzz back in 2023 and decided to go with them based on all of the positive reviews. Gahida was a pleasure to work with, she was extremely helpful with design ideas and offered many different solutions. The project ran smoothly with minimal issues, and any that did arise were promptly resolved. We did go over my initial intended budget, but that is due to all sorts of additions added along the way. In the end, the final product was better than I could have imagined. I would definitely recommend Qualita for any home projects.

> Qualita, ( Carlos and Gahida ), recently completed a full bathroom renovation in our existing condo. We were looking for a local family run small business contractor and got that. They did a fabulous job and communication was good. Carlos' workmanship and attention to detail were fantastic. Gahida was great at co-ordinating the transformation and giving us ideas and pointing us in the right direction for suppliers of products used. We would certainly use them again and would not hesitate to recommend Qualita to anyone.

**Comment from Qualita Renovations:**

> Thank you for your business at this challenging time during the covid pandemic. Your bathroom project turned out so unique and amazing!! I hope you enjoy your new home!

**★★★★★ — Helga Bolleter, April 2022**

> I hired Quality Property Services for renovating the two bathrooms in my condo. They were highly recommended by a neighbour who had a similar project done. I could not have been more satisfied with Qualita's work from start to finish. As they are a small business it took a while to get the project started, and once it did, it was completed in a timely and efficient manner. Throughout all phases of the project, from initial consultation, to design recommendation, to construction and completion, Qualita did a seamless job. I appreciated that Carlos was able to do everything himself, from plumbing, to electrical work, wall repair and painting. A top notch family business and a pleasure to work with.

**Comment from Qualita Renovations:**

> Thank you Helga, It was very nice to work with you on these projects. Wishing you all the best!

**★★★★★ — cohen\_s, April 2021**

> We are very pleased with the professionalism and high quality work of Gahida and Carlos. The project was the replacement of the kitchen and entrance hallway floor tile in our condo. It turned out that the original tile had been improperly installed by the builder, as the mortar over the concrete was patchy and not level. Carlos provided a solution at a reasonable price and now the tile sits on a proper level surface. The project was completed on schedule and on budget. We will be contracting with Qualita to do our bathroom renovation later this year.

**Comment from Qualita Renovations:**

> It was great to work with you. We look forward to your next project. Best wishes!

 - Description: This was a dramatic bathroom remodel. We enlarged the small shower area into a big curbless shower with rain and handheld shower fixtures. The old drop-in tub was replaced by a beautiful freestanding tub. These homeowners wanted to have more cabinetry and counter space, and double sinks! So, we relocated the vanity to the bathtub area, by the window. What was a big space with small features, turned out to be a functional room and maximized the use of space.

 - Description: This small bathroom was completely renovated. The client wanted to use a blue colour somehow. In order to brighten up the room, we proposed to use blue tiles on the shower wall and the rest of the room to use very pale colours such as white and grey. Grey 12x24 floor tiles, white walls, accent shiplap wall, white ceilings, and baseboards. The frameless shower door complements the clean look. The black pendant light and framed mirror bring up some interest in the vanity area.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Terrazzo Floors** *(in Photo Questions)*

Would love to know what floor product this is!

A: Hello
Terrazzo is a floor made with pieces of quartz/granite. However you can find TILES/CERAMIC that resemble Terrazzo, that is the case on this project. You can find ceramic/porcelain tiles that resemble Terrazzo with many designs, from neutrals to bolder. This one was purchased at FONTILE Tiles in Vancouver/BC. But you can find it at most tile stores.

Here are some examples https://elegancetiles.com.au/design-hub/why-terrazzo-tiles-are-always-a-good-option/

THIS IS THE TILE ON THIS PROJECT: https://www.fontile.com/product/marmette-mix-rett-matt-24x24/

Best wishes

**Q: rain head shower - to have or have not?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

To those who have installed a rain head shower...are you happy with the addition? What are the pros and cons? We are doing a full master bath remodel and now is the time if we want to add a rain head. Thanks I’m advance!

A: We use a lot the Riobel shower Kit with the rain shower head, and a handheld(bar) which can be used as a head shower/regular or hand shower. Great quality, great price, beautiful.

**Q: 7x6 Bathroom! How to make the most of it when renovating?** *(in Plumbing)*

The bathroom is next on my to-renovate list. The house was built in 1948 and I'm not sure it's been updated at all since then, aside from the shoddy paint job I did after removing the wallpaper.

Here is the current layout. There are 9" of clearance in front of the toilet, which is less than ideal for the long-legged among us (I'm 5'10" and my partner's 6'2"), but something I'm used to after living here nearly a decade. Note that the radiator in the lower left corner extends a few more inches into the sink cabinet. The plumbing for the shower is in the 5"-wide wall between it and the open storage area in the lower right corner. Pictures to come in the comments below!

I am weighing two options and would appreciate any input from the community.

Option A: slight adjustments

replace light fixture with combo light/fan
replace deteriorating tile and flooring with something more my taste
replace toilet with a more efficient & compact model
replace vanity with a wall-mounted sink
replace window blind with a frosted film on the glass
repaint the walls a lighter grey

Option B: total reconfiguration

all of the above, PLUS
change the layout to the following

For this I'd opt for a vanity instead of a floating sink, since I'd be losing that big chunk of storage space in exchange for more sitting/standing/walking space. I'd also add a tiled-in bump-out like this, this, or this in the upper right corner and swap the door around. I know this is a better use of space, I'm just not sure it would be worth the added hassle of gutting everything entirely. My plan is to get estimates for both options since I've no idea how much more expensive Option B would be. (Twice as much as Option A, all else being equal? Ten times as much? Who knows!) Then, once any plumbing/structural issues are revealed during demolition, add that cost to Option A to see if it narrows the gap enough to make Option B viable.

Open to tough love and reality checks! Also hoping for help with the fun stuff: decor and fixtures. :)

A: All depends on your budget. When you change the floor plan you will need more plumbing work and permits what will for sure increase the price tag for this project.

**Q: Kitchen color mistake help ASAP** *(in Paint)*

Help everyone. I am in the end stages of my kitchen refresh And it’s really a disaster to me. I repainted the top cabinets in chantilly Lace Benjamin Moore
mall bottom island is hale navy which I love. Looks awful in stark Matt white not nice or elegant compared to the hale navy
help anyone should I do all blue think it may be too much. This white shows everything including the dark hinges
I’ll post

A: I like the colour choices. However I agree with some of the suggestion already given. Flat doors are more modern and the window trim is traditional. I would remove the window top trim part. The fridge besides the stove is something I thing doesn't work quite well, separate them would be good. Simple line finish at the top cabinets would work well. Major change, new pendant lights, I feel those ones are small and too white, it does not catch the attention and that peninsula will be the star if you get bigger pendants with a different/contrast colour. Love the cabinetry colours, backsplash and wall paint. Good luck!

**Q: Entire bathroom redo.** *(in Remodeling)*

Hello. Doing a total bathroom redo. I need advice on if these materials go together or not.

A: I think the Victorian Rhombus Tile would not go well with the rest.

**Q: bathroom tile design help!** *(in Polls)*

Hi there! I am getting ready to do a bathroom renovation and need some help selecting tile. I fell in love with a mosaic and I’m trying to decide if the white or gray large format tile would look best around it for my shower and wet walls. The “white” is actually an off-white that leans ever so slightly gray. Definitely not a pure, bright white, but also not cream.

Our cabinets and tub will be white, woodwork will be white, tile floors will be charcoal. My friends think the white/off-white would be best (they think the gray will be too much, too dull) but my mom and aunt think the gray would look better — they say tub and cabinets would pop more against the gray. They think the white/off-white actually competes with the whites in the mosaic.

Any additional thoughts to help me decide?
Let me know what you think!

A: The 12x24 tile that has the small hexagon has an identical tile that is flat( at least at one of the tile stores I go to). I think that if you use this tile and the mosaic it will be be busy. I would use the flat version of the 12x24 hexagon on the walls and do a strip with this 12x24 hexagon. You would add some texture but not looking super busy. For a Mosaic like that I would go with a clean flat tile instead. I read that you really loved the mosaic, and sometimes we fall in love with many things, they just don't go together well. At this point we have to decide which one we love the most. Dont worry, that happens all the time. I did this project with the same tile but using the flat version and only one strip around the tub. Good luck!
