I received John’s name from one of his colleagues due to the size of the job. John responded to my voice mail promptly and set up an appointment for him to come by and provide a quote. John attended as scheduled and it was clear he knew what he was doing. > Due to the size of the job (baseboard, casing with back band, new doors and crown moulding throughout entire house) John brought Sandro along to help him out. I have to say the two of them were very enjoyable to have around. > It is always a challenge to live through renovations especially when it affects every room in the entire house. John and Sandro were very respectful and did their best to ensure that nothing was damaged throughout the install. With constant communication we were able to work together to minimize the disruption to my family. > Together they made a great team as Sandro worked on the finer detailed work demonstrating his superb woodworking skills as John installed the crown, making it look easy. Considering that our house is a new build and there isn’t a straight wall or square corner in the place, John was able to adjust and adapt leaving the finished product looking remarkable. > Due to the size of the project it took about four weeks to complete and in that time they became like family. > They were dependable and a pleasure to have around. Last year we added an addition to our home and renovated the entire main floor. As he was busy with jobs that had already been lined up for that summer, I had to wait until the fall of 2014 for him to be available. Because of the thoroughness of the questions he was asking about the end use\[s\] of the garage, the additional suggestions he was making, and the many positive reviews he had, I decided to wait until he was available. I was glad I did, as the frame he built was solid and was praised by the city inspector (for going beyond code requirements e.g. in use of hurricane ties), and by the roofing and the siding contractor as well. The contractors both said it was a great to build on work that was clean, square, and well thought-out. **★★★★★ — User, Nov. 2015** > After finding BBG Carpentry on Homestars and bringing John in for a smaller job on short notice, we brought him back to tackle our basement renovation - a full gut and rebuild of our 900 sq. ft. basement including a bedroom, a den, laundry room, bathroom, media area, workout area and a roughed in kitchenette. > > Along the way, as with many 100 year old homes, things were discovered which lead to changes to the scope of the project and inevitable project delays. For example, we had not planned to re-pour the concrete flooring, but after the demo and some excavation for initial plumbing work, it was realized that the cement floor had been initially done improperly and to be redone. John brought in an excellent subcontractor to do the work. John has a network of excellent subcontractors that he's worked with - and he works to obtain a fair price for the work required. > > John provided excellent suggestions for finishes such as how best frame out the basement windows, options available to us for various elements (e.g. choices for subfloor for under the planned laminate & carpet). He listened to concerns and suggestions and was able to come up with solutions that worked for everyone. He made use of odd spaces to create niches and built-ins. He thought ahead to planned use of rooms and added elements such as adding substantial blocking in walls where TVs were going to be mounted. He also came up with some unorthodox solutions to unique challenges, such as how to handle insufficient headspace above the planned location for a treadmill. > > We were always able to get a hold of John in a reasonable amount of time. He was responsive to our emails and made sure we knew when he would be unavailable (such as birth of his son during the renovation!) which was much appreciated. We are extremely happy with the final product and hope that he can make some time in the spring to build a firewood shelter! A combination of our overall design in combination with John's advice and experience achieved the design that we wanted and got us a permit. We thought that he is busy for a reason and indeed the wait was definitely worth it for us. John and his crew built a gorgeous deck. And we were equally happy with the process. John comes across as very knowledgeable and trustworthy, he explains patiently advantages and disadvantages of various materials and once he turns up for the job he moves along at good pace, communicates throughout what he is doing and keeps you in the loop. The payment process was transparent throughout, there was excellent workmanship, attention to detail, and, very importantly, when John ran into problems with us (for example, we used that new PT wood called MicroPro Sienna which looks nice but because of variance among the boards needed to be hand-picked by John to avoid a blotchy looking deck!) he had to drive to three or four stores to hand pick the wood and exchange boards already put down, he did not charge extra. We added and changed a few smaller things here and there that made his life difficult at times and he never charged extra except for material. No "nickel and diming" which I like a lot. I highly recommend him.
