> I am a custom home builder in Raleigh, NC.  We have used Southern Woodcraft for over 10 years, for both interior and exterior timber products, as well as their box-beam products that simulate the look of solid ceiling beams without the immense weight.  The attention to detail is amazing even after all these years.  Before Southern Woodcraft offered these products, we had to purchase green beams custom cut, and let them dry (versus the kiln dried, pressure treated material SWC supplies), which was a very long process with no guarantee of the finished product. SWC has always had a solution to the odd challenges that custom homes constantly raise.

**Q: Great looking brackets!  What size are those members - 4"x4"?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Bracket size?

A: I believe they are!

are the porch posts painted or stained, what color, and what kind of wood was used?

A: These posts are stained, however they were stained on site by the builder and we are not sure of the color. These posts are constructed with Old Growth Western Red Cedar.

**Q: Awesome timber truss detail. What brand and color of stain was used?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I have a Great Room with large Western Red Cedar timber trusses and I am trying to find a stain color that will enhance their beauty as you have done.

A: We have found that Cabot's Australian Timber Oil is the best clear finish for Western Red Cedar.  It is a penetrating oil that enhances the natural colors in the timbers.  Thanks!
