She helped me figure a budget for the job and help me select products that fit in with what I wanted and the budget. The build team and lead carpenter Bill Evans were very professional and always cleaned up every evening before they left. They would even let my cat out of the room she stayed in while they worked. We converted a two-level counter into a single-level, giving us miles of granite on which to roll out dough and make scratch pizzas. We make a lot of bread - the neighbors love us! The Gilbert Design Build team was great to work with from conception to cleanup. **★ — Mary Heath, June 2016** > Hired Dreammaker Kitchen and Bath to redo a master bath and redo a vanity in a second bath. > The start date was pushed back for months due to their working on other jobs. It was also delayed because of their company policy to have everything in their warehouse before starting the job. Once the job was started communication was very poor. There were several days no one showed up and when we called we were told the crew was pulled to another more important job. > The designer was pleasant but when it came time to discuss costs she was either unwilling or unable to do that ("everything is bundled"). I was never given cost comparisons for anything. So I never knew where I stood in my budget. Half way through the selection and purchasing process I was told by the designer, "this job got away from me and we are $10,000 over the $20,000 budget., By the time we finished a $20,000 job estimate cost $40,000. To be fair I ended up picking high cost items, but some of that was because no one was controlling the budget or letting me know what things were costing. > Workmanship was fair to good. I am still unhappy about several issues such as one cabinet too high and the other too low, all 3 sinks are too small. The granite was not cut properly now I have backsplashes that don't match. > Would I hire this company or recommend them, absolutely not. The shower/toilet area was expanded and converted to a wet room design. The vanity/counter top area was moved and opened for wheelchair height. Designer grab bars where installed in both areas. A wall had to be removed to increase mobility space. Lighting was improved and safety issues addressed. All details including shower wall design, flooring, and toilet area were to enhance ease of cleaning, The design had to maintain a minimal movement component to avoid distractions for my husband who has an Alzheimer's dementia diagnosis. > > Gilbert Design Build was my choice for their CAPPS certification and willingness to "think outside the box" when designing a project which focused on a disability. Although pricing was not the least expensive of local designers, Gilbert Design Build did not limit me to specific products and was open to all requests without judgment. Each step of the process was outlined in a hard copy binder left in the home as well as a secure on line site which was kept updated almost daily. With the exception of the demolition process, my husband and I were living in the home during the entire renovation. The Project Manager Bob Meehan asked my input and needs to make us as comfortable as possible while construction took place. Any questions or issues were brought to the attention of the Lead Carpenter Jimmy Delmutalo who would keep us informed on a daily basis. Input was requested at all steps of the process so we felt very essential to the project with no bombshells. Jimmy updated us with a phone call every evening or morning to give details on which contractors would be expected that day. > > All aspects of the job were done with exceedingly superior cleanliness, quality, and communication. Gilbert Design Build went above and beyond the average to meet those objectives and more. All personnel were professional and courteous throughout the time they were at our home. > > One issue did arise when a portion of the shower wall product was found to have defects. The Lead Carpenter Jimmy was able to have the manufacturer expedite a replacement in half the original time with profuse apologies to us. With an incredible showroom and knowledgeable design staff, there is no running around to cabinet makers, plumbers, lighting stores, etc. All your selections can be made in one location. > I attended one of their seminars which I found very informative on their company and their approach to remodeling/renovation. When the process begins, you establish a budget based on the scope of the work, consult with a designer who assists in your selections, and establish a start date. A computerized schematic is produced to provide you with a visual of the finished product. > I gave Jennifer, my design consultant, the concept of what I wanted to establish in the “feel” of the master suite design. When I attended our next appt, she had all her suggested materials displayed and she had assembled exactly the look that I had visualized. She is very talented and easy to work with. > Their construction manager, Bob, is also a pleasure to work with. Very accommodating and flexible during the work process. The tile installer, Tim, was extremely meticulous and did an incredible job. Gregg, the painter, was neat and precise. Bill, one of their lead carpenters, was also most accommodating and fastidious in the finish work. > The overall project did take somewhat longer than initially anticipated, however the end product was definitely worth the extra time. Their showroom is beautiful and a great resource. Their designer is talented and helpful. The weak link in the team is the construction manager that was assigned to our project. He is typical of all the things people complain about in construction - scheduling and correction of mistakes. He was so terrible that I never recommend DreamMaker to any of my fellow residents for fear that they will have the same awful experience that we had. The carpenter on the crew was top notch and we highly recommend him. His work was impeccable. We are happy with the outcome, but it took a lot of effort to get the project done in a timely manner. My job was difficult because of the configuration of my very angled kitchen. Although there were a few problems that arose Dreammakers worked with me to correct the issues. The project manager, Bob, kept things going smoothly with the arrivals of demolition guys, electricians, plumbers, tilers, and carpenters.
