## Community Q&A

**Q: What is the wood used in the trim in this house?** *(in Photo Questions)*

It's beautiful! Is it white oak? Ash? Fir? Pine? Something else?

A: Hi- The posts and beams are Douglas fir, and the ceiling material is 2x6 tongue and groove western red cedar decking. Hope this answers your question.

**Q: Ceiling height?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Beautiful! What is the ceiling height on this vaulted ceiling and the peak? Thanks!

A: The height from floor to peak is approximately 24'. The patio door size (seems others were interested) is 10'x8'. For more info on this plan, go to https://www.postandbeam.com/plan/custom-home-3341-191

**Q: shingles** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love the look of this home. What is the color of shingles?

A: I'm not sure if you are referring to the siding shingles (on the upper gable) or the roof shingles. Assuming you mean the roof shingles, they are GAF Timberline Prestique Lifetime textured shingles with lifetime limited warranty in Weathered Wood color. If you're referring to the siding, siding shingle stain is Benjamin Moore Redwood from Arborcoat, a semi-transparent classic oil finish. The trim is a local match to Andersen Window's "Red Rock" Color. Hope this helps.

**Q: How can you use recessed lights in this type of ceiling?** *(in Photo Questions)*

We are considering buying a post and beam house and I would like to have recessed lights like this. How is it possible? Thanks.

A: Hi westrism10: It would be difficult to add lighting like this to an existing wood-decked ceiling, and you would likely end up needing some exposed wiring channels here and there. Unfortunately, the best time to plan for recessed lighting in this kind of ceiling is at the time of initial construction. I'd be pleased to talk to you more about what lighting options could be possible; feel free to call 1-800-992-0121 and ask for Huckle.

**Q: Love the beams! What is the ceiling height?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi Courtney, the wall height from the floor to the bottom (underside) of the timber joists is 8'. It's another 8" to hit the drywall. 8' is our standard ceiling height, although many people opt to pay a little extra for 9' ceilings.

**Q: Wood type and finish on beams** *(in Photo Questions)*

Did you supply the beam material? If so, what kind of wood is it?

A: Dear Jane: Our company custom designs and pre-cuts a weathertight shell kit for post and beam homes, shipped to the site, to be constructed by a customer's builder on a prepared foundation. The timbers we use are dried \#1 Douglas fir graded lumber (and not pictured in this photo, girders, ridge beams and purlins are southern yellow pine premium laminated beams). Our remaining material specifications can be found on our web site at http://www.postandbeam.com/package-includes. Our video is a great place to get an overview of how we work, from design to construction http://www.postandbeam.com/video-home.
