> Richard remolded our master bath with taking out old tile, fixing and replacing the shower stall floor, removing old wall paper and texturizing the walls with a very light stucco, put beadboard up with white wash and installed wood flooring .  Installed new light fixtures and replaced all electrical switches.  We were very happy and rehired him to do the guest bathroom and redo my kitchen after having it remolded 7yrs ago.  To update I had him replace wallpaper with texture and install T1-11 from bottom to 6ft up with a 1x6 board.  He has replaced all electrical switches and plates. I could go on and on but he always cleans up and respectful of what I need to change as the job goes along. He can do about anything.  We will be using him for as long as he is in business!

**Q: Proposal for fireplace** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I just received a quote for a fireplace from a well respected carpenter that does high quality work in NJ.  Included a picture,  curious what people think this should cost. Everything will be in maple that will all be sprayed white in his shop.   The waincoting will be done on top of wood and the storage to the right of the fireplace will be lined in tile for holding wood. To the left of the fireplace will be a sliding door he will build and frame with matching panel designs.  The wall is 20 feet long and the ceilings are 8 feet high.

A: You are probably correct! I didn't really consider that lol.

**Q: Exterior paint colors for a blue roof** *(in Design Dilemma)*

So we're painting my grandmas house to get it ready to sell. I've never had much trouble choosing paint colors, but this blue roof is throwing me off. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A: I like those colors too, but I would do the door trim in a dark red accent. like Kelly Moore's Sequia Redwood. I'm not really liking the way that door trim pops out at you. Just my opinion

**Q: Bathroom project** *(in Photo Questions)*

What material and color is the vanity countertop?  Is it black granite?

A: Hard to tell from the picture. The contoured finish on the edge is not a normal granite edge finish. Are you sure it's not a composite (man made) material? There are some very good looking products out here on the market now that are poured into a mold.

**Q: is brick tan/brown?  some photos have gold look.** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The darker bricks that are sprinkled throughout look brown to me, which leads me to think they are some version of tan. It's really hard to tell colors in photos that are uploaded with phones, especially because the photo gets compressed for upload.

**Q: Lighting for an open concept eat in kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Reposting here from the lighting forum to hopefully get some feedback. 

I've posted before on the kitchen forum and got a lot of help. Now I need some lighting advice.

Ive bought a new construction house in a neighborhood and I need to make all of my design decisions by 4/26. I'm super obsessed with cool lighting. Ive pinned about a thousand kitchen island pendants for starters. But my lighting dilemma question is in regards to our eat in kitchen. We have a huge open concept kitchen-eat-in kitchen-living room. All one long room. When standing at the kitchen sink you look directly through the eat in kitchen to the living room to the fireplace with tv over it. I want to be able to watch the tv while I'm in the kitchen, specifically washing dishes. I'm worried that the light I choose for the eat in kitchen will hang down too low and block my view. We have 9 foot ceilings. I'm wondering if 1) there is a lighting option that won't hang down too low or 2) if I should place 2 pendants over the kitchen table. My worries with having 2 pendants over the table is that it will mirror the 2 pendants over the island and look strange. I'm attaching some pictures of the layout and the model home to help. **Q: Built in desk or what?  Weird nook in the kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I've agrued with this strange cut out in the kitchen the whole time we've lived here. I can't decide what to do. I tried ikea tall pantry cabinets but there is a light switch and three outlets that would have to be removed or moved and it's not the most plum, level or square area. I've been leaning towards maybe just going with a streamlined built in desk but I already have a lot of surface area in the combined kitchen dinning so I'm not sure it's the way to go. Real custom cabinets seem too expensive as we are probably moving soon. Should I just leave it be with the ill fitting cabinet I have in it for the time being? Sorry for the distracting mess. It was a take everything out and leave it on the horizontal surfaces type of day. My house is mid century though updated. The nook is 24" deep and 82" wide.... And very tall. As I look at the cabinet the kitchen it to my left and the dinning to my right no barriers between the two if that makes a difference.  Thanks for the help
