My home is two years old. I have now found out that they used pcvp plastic plumbing for the water. My new plumber has told me that it is the worst material because the joints are often sealed improperly. Pex is a much better non-copper alternative at the same price. Furthermore my kitchen sink leaked, my dishwasher leaked. the toilets were installed incorrectly installed and the flushing mechanisms were just junk. > > My new plumber has fixed every toilet and the only reason I am not upgrading the plumbing at a cost of $20K is because the plumber advised we can always do that if the junk water lines begin to fail (and they may not but they would definitely not leaked with Pex. > > This was a high end house. I understand that margins in construction matter. Fine, but they tout themselves as a custom builder and they do a decent job about what ways doors should swing etc. But what really matters is the stuff you don't think of. For example don't be satisfied with just a tall toilet, you want a name brand (Delta, American Standard) that is also long in the seat--they have better flush mechanisms. Not all subcontractors are the same, you want them to use the best. You can add better sound dampening for noise within the house under the floor boards (I'm not sure we have any but you can hear the people above you). Make sure you understand how the floors you pick will stand up to scratches. In short they don't, and maybe no one does an adequate job in explaining upgrades or better choices that go the integrity of the house. When developing property, we take great care to save as much of the existing trees and foliage as possible. We have received numerous awards for our efforts including a Green building award from the Town of Vienna, and (most recently), the prestigious Land Preservation Award from Fairfax County for our Spring Lake, Section 3 Community. We routinely far exceed the amount of required save areas designated by local jurisdictions and always exceed the amount of required replanting. We also encourage our clients to undertake landscaping projects as part of the new home building package so as to repopulate the disturbed areas as quickly as possible. I really appreciate their ability to work out small issues while staying on schedule. Its common that most people are pretty happy and excited when they move in - but the real test is many years later. Our house is over five years old and we are still very happy with it. I love the fact that you can use the same contractors who build the house to work on projects years later. Sekas also stands behind his work. We had an issue with siding on a dormer a few years back; I called Sekas and they sent a crew to fix it. More recently, in early 2017, the fix did not seem to work out.
