**Q: How to improve look of box bay window frame?** *(in Windows)*

We bought our home last year and this summer we are looking to do some work to clean up and modernize the front of our house a bit. We have 2 sets of boxed bay window frames for the 2 front bedrooms. We are already planning to replace the windows themselves but are not sure the best way to improve the look of the boxed bay window frame itself. 

At the bare minimum we'd repaint, but we're looking to make the house a bit less brown than what it is today and considering a cream color for the garage doors and possibly the window frames, but honestly open to any ideas that would lighten things up. Open to suggestions on colors, redesigning the box frame look, etc. Thank you!

**Q: ADVICE NEEDED--Which Window Brand Should I Choose?** *(in Home Repair)*

I need a casement window for my kitchen and I would appreciate having some brand recommendations.  I'm located in the northern USA with cold winters and hot humid summers.  I was all set to get a Marvin Ultimate casement until I saw some recent reviews on the company. It seems like they've gone downhill in the last 5-6 years.  Anderson and Windsor don't seem to be a lot better.  Please share your experience!  Pella?  Sierra Pacific? Lindsay?

A: If you replacing one window   things
get complicated. in general you want that window to look like the others.  With one window  it is very undesirable job and I would not even touch it. Marvin is  solid and Anderson is  good in their upper lines. m

**Q: Should I go with Simonton 6500 replace or Okna 500 Deluxe new?** *(in Windows)*

I have two quotes - one from Home Depot to do Simonton 6500 replacement window with an "outside in" replacement installation and one from All-County (NJ) to do Okna 500 Deluxe new construction windows with a new construction installation (take off siding, trim, install new windows, put back siding and trim).  I am comfortable understanding the differences on the windows specification.  I am more concerned about the materially different installations, and how much additional painting I'll need to do, and risks about my window treatments not fitting. 
Thoughts?
For context, this is a 4 story townhouse with 26 windows and 2 sliders!  And its a condo association, so the exterior is part of the HOA.

A: The Okna is the better window. New construction install is a superior   method.
You should ask the contractors if additional painting will be needed.

**Q: Window selection help!** *(in Building a Home)*

We’re currently in the position of needing to replace our siding and all of our windows. While I’d love to be able to order higher-end windows, our budget won’t allow it.

We’ve narrowed our search down to the Andersen 100 series, the Simonton Daylight Max and Simonton Meidera.  I’d really appreciate any advice on which window we should choose.

A: I’d suggest doing it at the same time. New contruction/ finned windows are always best done with the siding. Inserts dont matter as much. Doing different sides separately runs the risk of changes in product,unknown cost and undpredicted  financials. I say do it all at once is best . I would find a product that fits budget  or just wait till you can afford to do it all at once.

**Q: Windows Broke- who's responsibility is it?** *(in Building a Home)*

I'm building a new house. My contractor had the windows delivered to our (fully framed) house on Monday and we've been following up the entire week to have them installed as we aren't comfortable having such expensive material just sitting around. I checked on the the house on friday and found that the sliding door (thousands of dollars) fell down from the wind and all of the glass shattered. I texted my contractor about it and he has not yet responded. Is it reasonable for me to expect that he should pay for a replacement? Should I consider switching contractors if he refuses to pay for it?

A: Give your    contractor time to respond.   How long has it been? was it over the weekend?

**Q: Caulk Outside Window Sill?** *(in Windows)*

My window has a sloped outside sill. There a piece of wood to fill this gap. The caulk/paint on the wood has completely dried out. If above link says Access Denied, just refresh.  
Can the wood piece be caulked all the way around or just the top and sides? Thank you.
