> I used Square Peg to purchase and mount a television above my fireplace. Frank did an incredible job. He had to run the cable from the other side of the room to position the cable box behind the tv moving the electric socket as well. He made 2 small holes and then patched and painted them. I also had Wi-Fi enabled switches installed with dimmers and timers along with a new thermostat. He then demonstrated how they worked.
> He was on time and professional. Additionally he cleaned up any of the mess he made. I highly recommend using Square Peg.

> Frank is the best! When we moved to Marlboro we had him out for all our electrical/lighting fixes at the new house. He was very professional and a pleasure to work with. He is very knowledgeable and helps you make the right decisions for your long term needs. He mounted 2 tvs for us hiding all the wires, he installed some light fixtures including recess cans and took care of some miscellaneous wires/switch needs. We have found our go to electrician. We plan to have him out again for other future projects.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Favorite wafer LED downlight?** *(in Lighting)*

I am researching which brand of wafer LED downlight to purchase for a new construction home. I was wondering if there was a branad that people love? What I am looking for: dimable, wet location certified (covered outdoor decks, over shower ect.), and I think I am looking for about a 5 inch size in an ultra thin frame.

A: Hi Allison
Along with custom Audio/Video installations, we also install custom remote control lighting. When asked to provide the down-lighting we prefer Lithonia Wafer LED lights. They're available in 6" and 4" with varying lighting temperatures. They are easy to install without the typical lighting "can" and have proved to be very reliable. see link below
Good Luck!
Lithonia

**Q: Media cabinet glass door** *(in Home Entertainment)*

Want to get a floating media cabinet but most products in the market are with wooden doors, so wondering how do you work your remotes. I want to have my DVD player and cable router in the shelves but my understanding is I can’t work the remote thru wooden doors right? any suggestions welcome. Ideally want to have frosted/tinted glass doors, but can’t seem to find any!

A: Check out Salamander Designs
Custom floating cabinet designs with IR pass-through doors...an IR kit would also work when installed properly.

**Q: Help with TV in a Living Room** *(in Home Entertainment)*

Hi! I'm seeking guidance on the appropriate TV placement for our living room. When my husband and I first moved into our home two years ago we were adamant that our living room would remain TV-less. After years of denial, we've finally decided to come to terms with our reality and have decided to go back on our original plans. We're now challenged with the task of putting a TV in our existing space.
Our living room is essentially a long rectangle and opens to a small hallway on one side, which takes you to a coat closet, powder room and laundry room. On the other side is a fireplace with a small entrance off to the side to our kitchen. Along one of the long walls is an opening to our foyer and the wall opposite has a door to the backyard and several windows. We're open to rearranging the furniture but have a very long sofa (its length is roughly the same width as the room itself - it was purchased prior to living in this home), which creates some challenges. We are also trying to avoid placing the TV over the fireplace if at all possible.
We currently have the TV stuffed in a corner, which is nice for viewing from the sofa but means you see a large black screen the moment you walk into the room. Photos included.
Any guidance on what might make the most sense to ensure we still have a workable space and good traffic flow would be greatly appreciated!

A: Interesting ideas mentioned above...but why rearrange your life. Mounting the TV above the fireplace, in my opinion is the simplest option. Install a Samsung "Frame TV" or a Seura Mirror TV and your aesthetics dilemma is resolved. The Samsung Frame TV will be able to duplicate your painting now hanging in that very spot. Any professional Pro Audio/Video company can get power & signal cables above the fireplace - a little patching and painting and yer-good-to-go.

**Q: ceiling speaker system wired to home closet?** *(in Home Entertainment)*

my builder is installing ceiling speakers for multiple rooms in the house but they are only doing it locally. What if I want to have a home closet for all my receiver/amp equipment? what do i do to have receiver/amp and sound audio equipment in the closet instead?

A: Hi Tony
Trying to help, but this question is bordering on the surreal...are you OK with someone cutting up the walls, drilling through ceiling joists, framing between rooms/floors, patching, sanding and painting? If the answer is yes, then not too hard at all.
Hope this helps.

**Q: Mounting TV on brick fireplace** *(in Home Entertainment)*

We have a very small living room and would love to mount our TV on our fireplace so we can arrange our furniture for more of an open concept. Would this be a huge/expensive project? How can we make it simple/affordable?

A: Hello
I'll try and answer your question as stated, without getting into rearranging your furniture or your life for that matter. We have done this a few times and here are your options.
The TV mount can be installed on brick using the proper masonry anchors, the mantle can be lowered by someone experienced in doing so, should you decide to go that route...but that's not the difficult part - getting the wires to where they need to be is.
If the brick is only a facade, meaning that it is 1/4" with a drywall wall backing and there is a stove-pipe flue, then it may be possible to get wires behind the wall (power & signal cables) run them down inside the wall, out the left or right side bottom (or basement) and pick up power/signal at a convenient point. Not such a simple task to say the least, very messy, but we've done it.
If it's a true brick fireplace with a brick flue (if it's an older house, then it probably is) then wiring it this way would not be recommended - or possible for that matter. The option here would be, surface mount the power and signal wire, conceal within wire molding and route down the side (I would not recommend trying to notch out the brick to conceal your wires yourself (as AC line voltage must be run inside of a conduit). This is not the best look, but some clients insist on doing it this way despite out guidance.
There are many trade-offs with mounting a TV over the fireplace, height being one, as mentioned in some previous comments - however, in some instances, it's the only option.
If you decide to keep your TV where it is (as shown in the photo) I would recommend concealing all your wires in the wall, installing the TV on a full-motion mount with the SONOS Play-Bar mounted below - so it swings with the TV. Mounting it this way, will enable you to direct the TV towards the kitchen area for convenient viewing if that is one of your goals.
You should consult a Pro-A/V installer in your area for this type of job and not attempt to DYI.
Good Luck
Frank

**Q: Options for internet music over home WiFi to multiple tube receivers** *(in Electronics)*

I will soon be moving from the Chicago area to a remote area of Michigan's Upper Peninsula once the home remodeling project there is done. Only one FM radio station can be received in the area, however reliable cable internet is available.
I'd like to expand my live music options by somehow putting internet music on my home WiFi and then having someway to feed that into my multiple tube receivers that will be scattered throughout the home. Control can be very simple - only need one channel put on the WiFi at a time to be picked up by any or all of the receivers. Conceptually, I'm thinking one box to select the specific internet music and put it on the home WiFi with minimalist (cheap!) WiFi boxes at each receiver to take the music off WiFi and feed it into the receivers via cables.
I did a Houzz search and only found one similar question from 12 years ago. What are the latest and greatest solutions currently available? Any help & equipment recommendations appreciated.

A: wishiwereintheup

I see that this thread is still lingering like the fog...and by now I'm sure you're experiencing analysis paralysis - And although there are some good points made about streaming to a tube amp and digital encoding - I'm assuming that you want to continue to use your amps. I would still recommend SONOS or Denon's HEOS to keep all your music sources and control in one place -don't over think it, with a good amp and speakers the streaming music will sound great,
Good luck.
