**Q: Ideas to de-ugly our house** *(in Landscape Design)*

Our house is ugly, we accepted that when we bought it and we don’t have a grandiose plan to try to turn it in to something it ain’t.  But we would like to try to improve it some.  
The siding is grooved cedar shakes and is in decent enough shape so we can’t justify changing it.
The two small windows next to each other are in the bathroom and we would not want to change their shape.
The roof is around 10years old so no changing that.
Otherwise, we’re open to ideas, our Top ideas were new color, front porch and add trim to windows. 
Any thoughts what would give the biggest bang for the buck and make our house stop looking like a trailer?
Oh, and the maple tree in front stays.

A: A little landscaping and a new mailbox would dress things up considerably. Its definitely not an ugly house, it just has untapped potential. I agree with Yardvaark that bottom limbs of the tree need to be removed.  A little landscaping to frame the driveway and the front of the house would also significantly improve curb appeal. Of course, we would also suggest adding a classic looking mailbox to polish off the look, but we may be a bit partial.

**Q: Our House is Beige Box - Curb Appeal Help Needed!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We're listing our half-duplex in about 6 weeks, and have some time and capital to put towards beautifying the front exterior. Right now, the place looks like a bland, beige box.  The large hedge on the left has already been taken down; we plan to add handrails to the front stoop for safety; and I plan to paint the front door, the trim, maybe paint the body (if I can get the neighbours on board) - but I'm stuck on what else to do. Any suggestions for other fixes? Any colours in particular I should be considering?

**Q: BLAH new construction exterior** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I need major help on paint color selection for my new home. I was thinking BM iron mountain for trim, garage and siding but im on the fence. 

The biggest issue I have is the entry- nothing draws the eye to the entry and I've thought about painting the brick entry or even adding stone. The builder is adding shutters and doing closed shutters over that weird area where it looks like there should be a window. I like a modern aesthetic and am not thrilled about shutters.

Full disclosure - I bought this house mid construction and had no input into the exterior selections. We got the house at a steal and given the real estate market in my town - compromises had to made.

Id love to add some architectural details to bring some life to the exterior.

A: Beautiful home! Landscaping goes a long way. Also, I agree about painting the door a color that will pop. Also, the placement of your mailbox will help. If you place it to the left or right of the entry way to your home, it will help draw your eye to the door. Also, painting the garage doors will help too. Take a look at some of our mailbox options that would look great with your brick color.
