**Q: Dealing with an off centre hood vent… Help!** *(in Remodeling)*

I have burnt out my husband, friends and family... so turning to the great folks on Houzz for some feedback.
We have restored (for the last 3 years) a house built in the late 1800s (brick house, think Boston walkup, but this one is located in Saint John, NB, Canada). For a number of reasons, we had no choice but to have the stove and range hood be off center to the space.... it kills me. The house is otherwise very symmetrical.
From the window to the range hood on the left, it is 69", and from the range hood to the wall on the right is 56". The stove is 48" for scale.
I deliberately did not have upper cabinets built until now because I wanted to live in the house for a bit, find my light fixtures etc.... and to see if I really wanted uppers or to opt for open shelving. My cabinet maker is on hand to build out the rest of the cabinets, or to do open shelves, if I so choose. I have blocking installed all over the wall, as well as cabinet lighting ready to go behind the drywall on both sides.

I do not need the storage space. We have cabinets galore (notwithstanding all the crap on the counters in the photo!)


We did make the main floor open concept - the main floor is "only" 900 square feet - for a living room, dining room, a powder room and the kitchen, and I was worried that the upper cabinets would be very overwhelming in the room - given that you will see them from all areas of that floor.


Because things were unbalanced, my light fixtures\*\* are centered on the hood vent, and island, but it makes them out of center for the rest of the room.

\*\* per the fixture you see in the photo - I was trying out one idea in the photo (imagine 2 of them, so 4 lights in total) installed to cover the larger square"ish" island - feel free to comment on this, but I think we are going to switch to two oversized single drum or glass pendants (recommendations accepted!)
I would love to have whatever feedback anyone feels like sharing - do I do two or three sets of open shelves on each side? Do I have a cabinet built for one side and not the other (leaning in to things being off center). Do I tile that wall (ceiling height is a little less than 11 ft). We are going for "historical" in terms of style... if such a thing is a design term!
