We started by interviewing Hart Wright as architects based on a nice writeup in the SF Chronicle on a project they had been involved with. It was our first interview (with Eliza Hart to start). We seemed to be on the same page from the outset and chose to go with them right away. As it turned out the remodel became a complete rebuild from the ground-foundation up. We kept the Victorian facade but little else. The entire interior was redesigned on two levels to take full advantage of the fact the rear of the house faces south and gets full sun all day. That meant a large deck and lots of open interior space stretching the length of the upper floor from the open kitchen through the living room. Ceilings were raised and skylights were added as further enhancements. Good lighting was a priority. Until you embark on a project like ours you have no idea as to the multitude of issues that will need to be addressed as the building evolves. Some were small and some large, some were design related while others were structural. Eliza Hart & Stuart Wright brought their individual strengths to bear across the board and furnished creative solutions on a variety of fronts. Vanities are typically 32 to 34" above the floor, not as high as a kitchen counter which is 36".
