> Being a television remodeling show addict, I thought I had all the best ideas but just wanted another opinion on which solution to choose for my fireplace wall. I was completely redoing the family room from floor to ceiling and that darned wall. The fireplace brick wall extends the whole length of the wall. I was going to do an elaborate mantel shelving unit plus cover the wall with some type of tiling. After Beth looked around, she came up with the solution to sand, scrape, and expose some of the underlying brick to give it a rustic looking appearance. (Not sure how many layers of paint there were from over the years) It is FABULOUS!
> I already had my flooring which I really was not that happy with, but when we got through choosing the awesome paint colors, I now love the floor. The paint, floor, rustic brick wall and NOT the elaborate mantel and I LOVE my new room.
> I cannot wait to have Beth out again soon for the next phase of my remodeling.
> (Saving money on refacing that wall was a big bonus.)

> I highly recommend Second Glance Designs for your next home project. We had our interior painted, installed hardwood floors, and purchased furniture and accent pieces. Beth oversaw each of these projects. She helped pick paint colors, she went shopping with us to pick out hardwood flooring, and also helped pick out our furniture and fabric. In addition, Beth provides excellent discounts on all of these items. She has beautiful ideas and finishes the project quickly and within the budget. I will be using Second Glance Designs for all of our future home projects!

> Beth is a professional that understands the process of helping a client create the perfect vision for their project, then aiding them with bringing the picture into focus by choosing the best solutions for their interior design. She has helped many of our clients in creating fantastic finishes in their homes. I highly recommend Beth.

> I have to say Beth Goetting with Second Glance Design made my experience with her very painless! She spoke gently and with caution as she asked if she could be honest with me, sharing her recommendations for redesign. I loved everything she came up with and just wonder why I waited so long to hire her to give me "permission" to make the changes.

> You will be very pleased with Second Glance Design and entertained along the way. The service was very professional.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Area Rug Help** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I need help finding out what color rug to get for my living room if I should go patterned or solid?

A: You have a lot of "beige" going on here. I suggest your rug be a pop color to add some interest to the room. Pull the color through the rest of the room with some coordinating pillows or décor items like wall art. I suggest going to your local carpet store and select a color and perhaps a high/low pile that adds texture to the room, but not a busy pattern. They will either bind it for you at the shop or send it out. It is safer this way as you know exactly what you're getting.

**Q: Need help with dated kitchen cabinets and vinyl floor.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We don't have a lot of money to spend on the floor and cabinets. I think the heavy grain looks dated. Not sure if I want to stain, paint, or just live with them. The vinyl floor is so old and it won't stay clean. I was trying to decide between wood or tile in the kitchen. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A: I am a big fan of stained cement floors for budget minded folks, although I don't know if you are on a slab. Tile would be my next choice, especially if this isn't your "forever" home.
Painted wood cabinets are always in style, and I definitely would add some hardware to dress them up. Make sure you coordinate your tile selection with your cupboard paint. You didn't mention if you wanted to upgrade your countertops, but there are many non-granite options out there that are more price friendly.

**Q: Paint help: which grey to use with a beige ceiling** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are purchasing this home and will close in a couple weeks. This will be my daughter's nursery. Her current nursery is a very light silvery grey, but I know that would clash with the beige ceiling in this room. Which grey do you recommend I use to not clash with the ceiling. Or what color would you recommend (even if not grey). I've been considering different colors as well. Her furniture is mostly white with a large framed portrait of a mom and baby elephant taken by a friend in Africa printed black and white. Her accents are pink and we currently have some natural wood tones as well. I've attached a picture of the fabric from her sheets and the room she will be moving into. Her crib skirt is light grey with white polka dots and we have a pink and white paper mobile. Thank you!

A: If you like the pink and grey combination, try finding a nice sunny yellow for the walls. Pink, grey, and black can work well with yellow, but I wouldn't introduce any more colors in the room...I would go with a solid on the window treatment as well. Best of luck in your new home!

**Q: Living room** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I need a living room update and ideas for better furniture placement .

A: Me again. I really think a sectional would be too big for this room. They take up a bunch of space and tend to command all the attention. If you are the only one who uses the room, then I would go with more separate seating selections, and would still consider a different, lighter paint color. I don't see the color in there blending well with that hard wood floor coloring...Looks like you lean toward neutrals. Sorry!

**Q: Dining room furniture arrangement** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Where to put the china cabinet? On the back wall?

A: If you can post additional photos of this room, it would help to determine where else the cabinet can fit. If the room is wide enough, try turning your table width wise and put the cabinet against the back wall. Not that you're asking, but a nice formal rug with some color would really add to this pretty dining set.

**Q: What shall I do for these low windows?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We've recently renovated the upstairs but kept the sleeping space cozy under the cottage roof. We have put in new windows and now we need curtains or blinds. We need a bit of privacy, and we need to block the light for summertime sleeping.
(The skylight has it's own shade.)

A: I can easily see white folding shutters in your windows. The room has a great feel for shutters...especially with the cargo style bed.
