Her expertise has been invaluable from our first meeting in July to the end of our home remodeling project 14 months later. We are impressed with her tireless effort in coordinating, following through and helping us with the myriad of items and decisions that needed to be made. She has an impressive portfolio of first class sources for flooring, carpeting, ceramic and porcelain tile, lamps, furniture, upholstering, window treatments, wall papering, picture framing, hardware, faucets, fixtures, and appliances. Time after time she made the decision making process easy for us by assessing our wishes, doing the leg work and bringing a few choices to us to evaluate. We were overwhelmed with the different types, styles, and shades of flooring. Cathi brought us three beautiful samples for our consideration and when we made the decision a few days later she said “Okay, that’s done.” The same thing was done with the carpeting, tile, paint, wall paper and most everything else. She kept our project moving. Cathi drove us to the appliance store and we had our faucets, fixtures, and appliances picked out in no time. She took us to her home and previous clients’ homes so we could see first hand the couches, chairs, window treatments, and mouldings that we were considering and promptly got things ordered as we made our decisions. She has an impressive eye for color and can remember and coordinate the furniture, carpeting, tile, and paint. Cathi arrived at our house early on the day we moved back into our house and surprised us by bringing with her, among other nice appointments, two lamps for our living room as well as two lamps for our bedroom that she picked out for us. They were beautiful and perfect saving us time and ticking off another item on our “to do” list. She also stayed throughout the day helping unpack boxes, put things away, hang pictures, lay the rugs, and coordinate the moving of our furniture. We believe that no other designer would go this far for a client. > Originally, her design ideas caught our attention when we first met. We had studied models of homes in our tract to see what anyone else did with a poorly laid out and unused room off our entry way and found that none of the remodels improved on the original design and we couldn’t come up with a viable plan either. Cathi suggested building a banquette area in the room off the entry way and extending our kitchen counters around the corner in front of the banquette table, putting in some useful cabinets and installing a TV above the counter. She changed a never used room to the most used room in our house where we serve breakfast every morning, lunch in the afternoon, and informal dinners at night while watching TV or enjoying our favorite tunes on our smart TV. She had us move our pantry and refrigerator to the opposite end of the kitchen so as to open the dining room area to both space and light. She turned our little galley kitchen into a spacious kitchen area with plenty of room for a retractable shelf for our mixer, trash drawer, and much more cabinet and drawer space. > We’re sure it wasn’t easy working with us, but not only has Cathi maintained a positive, professional, and friendly attitude toward us throughout the process, she also worked very well with the architect, general contractor, and the many sub contractors that she encountered. It seemed to us that there was a mutual respect between Cathi and everyone she worked with on our project and I think she will be working with many of them again in the future. > On a trip to Miter Craft Supply in Costa Mesa to pick up hardware for our door I told the woman working there a little of what we were doing and that Cathi Marcoly was our designer. She told me that many people come to her shop telling her that they are “designers”. The work for my marble vanity went really wrong as did the flooring (not properly prepped for a bathroom) and I could not communicate with any of the workers. We are currently looking for a home to purchase and do a reno. Question is, do we find a designer before or after finding a home? We want to see their vision when in things we may not see on our own. Thoughts? A: Agreed but we do advise clients often (once we know their style) on home that might be suitable with most economical reno budgets. A good designer might see what the client doesn't on a house when previewing.
