We highly recommend them. **★ — HU-140189083, June 2022** > John contacted me very quickly regarding a leak and getting an appointment set up in a very expedient manner and he quoted a rate of $1000-1200 for the service. That is where the professionalism ended. I received a call from American Leak Detection who is subcontracted to do the leak detection work; and was a bit startled as I already had them booked for July and knew of their rates. The fact of the matter is John is making a large profit off of a subcontracted service and when I called him out on it; he got very terse over the phone and stated that I guess I should leave the service in July. The moral of the story is; don't try and make $200-400 + off of subcontracted service and gouge your customers, be honest with them and when they are educated about the price, honor the price. It never hurts to be an educated consumer and a warning to all for this company is do your due diligence. **Comment from Elevate Pools:** > First off, we’re sorry there was a misunderstanding regarding our overall pricing. We have worked with American Leak Detection for more than 15 years, and this is the first time we’ve ever encountered a grievance. Yes, we do markup our subcontracted business partners, sticking with the industry norm of 10%-15%. That has never varied. We knew that Mr. Schubert was looking to get leak detection work done on his pool as quickly as possible. We were able to accommodate him on an almost immediate basis. > > Our cost range of $1000-$1200 has been our standard rate for most leak detection projects. Most times, this is a 2-3 hour process at a minimum – many times, it goes beyond that time frame. We always bill according to the final job – had the actual amount of time spent been less than estimated, our bill would have been adjusted downward. We also hope that Mr. Schubert understands that our time is factored into our estimate as well, contacting the company, arranging schedules and communicating with the customer. More important, when a leak is found, our crews are readily available to repair the leak and any subsequent damage done to the pool area (like repairing decking, tiling, etc.). The job of American Leak Detection is to find the leak, and they do that very well. But they do not repair the problem. We always encourage customers to get additional estimates from other companies and sometimes, we do indeed lose on price. But we never intentionally overcharge on any job – whether that’s for a new pool or pool renovation and repairs. Every market has different labor rates & material costs.
