## About

### Houzz Badges

- 1,000 Ideabook Saves

From the very beginning, Micro-Structures has been a green company. In 2014 I took this commitment a step further with the decision that all projects would use sustainable lumber, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

The simple act of building small is a low-impact alternative to costly additions. A smart design makes efficient use of a small space, so the construction of a micro-structure requires less material, less energy and produces less waste.

High-quality craftsmanship means that our structures are durable and long-lasting. These are not junky ‘throw-away’ sheds that will end up in a landfill. Fully insulated walls, ceilings and floors ensure that the interior stays at a comfortable temperature throughout the year, while using a minimum of energy. Double-pane windows and doors are energy efficient and help to keep the interior at a stable temperature, reducing energy use. Thoughtful placement of windows and doors brings in the sun during the winter and keeps the interior shaded in the summer. Flooring, shelves, and siding are always made from durable and long-lasting materials. I often use recycled materials for these design elements.

Careful and efficient use of materials. I keep the construction waste to a minimum. I do not need to park a dumpster outside my client’s house. My worksites are very clean and litter-free. All extra materials are recycled, re-used or re-purposed. Any remaining scrap wood is used to heat my own home on those rainy Oregon nights!

> Brennan at Micro-Structures is awesome.
> He did consulting work on my backyard studio, and put in some time with me speeding up my buildtime, handing out some great advice, and even hung a set of french doors that work likea dream. Thank you Micro-Structures.

**★★★★★ — Arthur Mount, July 2015**

> It was great working with Brennan to build my outdoor studio. I work from home as an illustrator and wanted a small office and covered area in my backyard. Brennan and I discussed my needs and he came up with not only an ideal practical solution for my budget, but an aesthetically stunning one. I work out here every day and I love it.
>
> After the studio was completed, Brennan built us a large chicken coop, which he dubbed the Taj Ma-chicken. It's visible from the sidewalk and always turns heads. We have the luckiest chickens in the neighborhood.
>
> I highly recommend Brennan for his creative problem-solving, professionalism and simply being a great guy to work with. I'd hire him again in a heartbeat.

> I worked with Brennan for two separate projects and I hope to work with him again. He completed a beautiful 8'x8' shed on a concrete pad in our backyard as well as a set of gorgeous wide cedar steps off our deck to our backyard. Brennan's skills are undeniable: he has an artist's eye and is meticulous about his work. He's also a joy to work with and I trust him implicitly. I would happily leave him the key to our home (though that was never needed for these projects) and felt absolutely confident in his integrity and skill throughout the process. He completed the work on time and on budget and 3 years later we continue to be thrilled w/the work he did. The shed and the steps are still perfect. I recommend him without hesitation.

**Comment from Micro-Structures:**

> Thanks, Katie!
> That was a great series of projects, and I'm glad you like the way it transformed your backyard.
> I'm working on another project down the street from you this summer. Come on by and say "hi"...

**★★★★★ — Kylie K., July 2015**

> Brennan with Micro-Structures was a pleasure to work with. He was able to listen to what we were looking for (additional storage for bicycles), and addressed all alternatives before offering a reasonable suggestion for how to proceed. Our original tiny storage unit at the back of a carport was converted into a full-fledged storage shed -- complete with double doors, windows for natural lighting, and even a cat door (with molding to match!).
>
> We were impressed with how quickly the work was completed (~3 days!), how reasonable the cost was, and even the level of follow-up (Brennan came back to change some molding we weren't in love with, and adjust doors after some settling and expansion had occurred). We would certainly recommend Micro-Structures for any job, and would gladly hire them again.

**Comment from Micro-Structures:**

> Thanks, Kylie!
> This was a fun project, and I loved adding the custom cat door…!
