**Q: Awkward space** *(in Design Dilemma)*

suggestions for space between bench and tv, also for above bench.  coastal style

A: If you want to keep everything in place, I would do a tall picture.  But I do agree w others...perhaps if budget is right get a longer tv console OR remove bench completely.  Bench is very cute but awkward in the space.

**Q: Painting Bedroom- Color Help!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

For a teenage female's room- love colors and kinda picky haha :). would this color wall ( Thinking a light grey maybe??) work well with a two tone red sponge paint? mostly dark red and then some light red- this would go on the wallbehind the headboard of the bed. and then on the (all white) furniture (i.e. bereaus and drawers, also the woodwork and door) with some gold accents painted on? and if this all is a yes, what would be the best way to go with a ceiling color- cream?? and also the drapes- gold and cream?? Thank you so much for your help :) Any suggestions welcome greatly :) Side note:: if not this color wall- what color for the above idea?

A: Sounds really bad...sponge painting is not cool.  Give her a room she can show off to her friends!

**Q: Need design advice to finish my space.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I built my house, moved in a year ago and have been slowly adding things. I really do like the look of neutrals and mixing textures (I don't think I have the finesse down though). I have tried adding color in but most tend to bug me - I must have tried 30 different curtains/colors - no lie - and ended up with white. The only colors I have not had an aversion to are light apricot (like the flowers on the dining table) and light shades of blue or turquoise. 

My problem is I am now stuck and need advice to finish the space working with what I have (keeping furniture, etc)...especially I need help with what I should put on either side of the fireplace w/ the TV mounted above it (no, that can't change/move either). I am currently expecting a baby so anything expensive - like built ins or any type of construction is out of the question for the next year or two but I need to do something. 

Please help!

A: You already have way too much furniture in this small space.  Once your baby comes, you're going to have even more stuff---think toys, books, etc.  If you are looking for a quick fix, just wait.  Spending money to redo it within 2 years makes no sense at all.  Do your husband a favor and quit wasting his money.  Instead start a "custom built-in" fund and start saving money so in 2 years you're family room will look like a million bucks!  2 years goes by so fast---esp. when you have children.  Moms always say it goes by so fast bc it does!  Your colors and design philosophy look amazing---you definitely have a talent.  But now you have to be patient to get what you really want!  Best.

**Q: I need design advice for my living space!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We recently moved into a new house that has a great neutral color scheme.  It is an open floor plan and the kitchen has mid tone cabinets and black granite counters.  The media stand is new, and I am planning on hanging the T.V. above it soon, but would love some advice styling it.  The rug is also new.  I am planning on painting the brick behind the wood stove white and putting a mantle top on it, but again would love some advice styling it.  The color scheme for the space I am thinking of keeping it pretty neutral with beige's and brown's with pops of teal.  I am thinking of painting most of the room a light beige and the wall with the window and slider a dark teal color, what do you think?  Nothing on the media stand is staying, it is just some old stuff I put on it for now, the curtains and pillows are also going to be changed. I am going for a more contemporary style.  I am also thinking of putting crown molding in the room soon.  Thank you for taking time to give me you advice!

A: Here's some tough love---Turquoise would be awful in these rooms.  The fireplace is killing any design aspect. you may even be thinking about.  You need to lose that horrible track lighting in the kitchen and update it with something more contemporary---maybe a chandelier.  The white appliances are very dated looking; cabinets looks great!  The kitchen set looks country, fireplace looks mid-century, rug looks contemporary....none of the pieces go together.  It looks as if 5 roommates moved in and brought all their things together.  Style and design is not about doing it on the cheap or keeping heirlooms because your mom passed something over to you.  If you're not willing to get new furniture at least pull the couch over about 2 feet to the left so it's not against the wall.  Looks like it got pushed up for cleaning and left there.  Center it in the room and please change the fireplace---it's by far the worst thing in the room!
