> If you are looking for a company that takes pride in their craftsmanship the way they did in the “good old days”, Vintage Doors is your destination! We purchased our first door quite a few years ago and the quality of these doors surpasses any other door out there. These are not cheap, manufactured doors! They are heavy, handcrafted pieces of art! Everyone comments on how beautiful our door is still to this day. It has transformed the look of our antique farm house. After all these years, it still looks just as gorgeous as it did when we first installed it!
> This past year we built a small stone structure and we needed another door. We only had one choice in our minds and that was “Vintage Doors”. We purchased an arched door with dental detail and it looks stunning against the stone building! From beginning to end, we made the right choice because not only did we get another amazing door, but the customer service at the company is absolutely outstanding! It truly is like going back in time where the customer matters and they treat you with such kindness and respect. We LOVE to support a place like this because they are a dying breed nowadays. We really appreciate their integrity and could not be happier.

> Earlier this year we chose Vintage Doors to produce a custom pair of entrance doors with a custom beveled glass insert for our home. As these doors were to be painted to match our other doors we chose 1-3/4" thick poplar. The doors arrived on time and were packed and shipped in one of the nicest wood crates we have ever seen. Each door weighed around 150 pounds and the workmanship was top notch. The installation went smoothly and the fit was exact. After priming and painting we installed a pair of heavy duty roller catches and four crystal door pulls. Our compliments to the team at Vintage Doors for a beautiful pair of American Made Doors that we admire every day.

> So disappointed in my door. We have had multiple issues. First, the inside of the doorknob broke, instead of replacing the knob, they sent the piece and I had to pay someone to fix it. But, even worse, just 3 months out of warranty, the door literally split. Their recommendation, glue it. Really! A very expensive wood door that should be durable for years, split and not at the seam but in a random spot. Again, hired someone to glue it and it's still not working. Stay away, never again, No quality here.

> My experience is that this company can NOT handle custom orders. I provided sketches, details and had a long conversation going over the designs and details with Erica, the NSM. 5 of the doors were pretty basic, one was a Dutch craftsman also pretty classic just height adjustments and a dentil shelf. What was custom were two miniature matching "dog" doors/sidelights, the later with stained glass. I provided a photo of the existing stained glass as a reference. I never received a single schematic or quote after 3 weeks. When I requested that whatever they had ready to bid to send over ASAP because I needed to button up my project before the rains, I was told that they wanted to wait until they had the whole order completed and not sent piece meal. Then the NSM went radio silent. I guess 3 weeks of waiting makes me pushy. To not even provide the courtesy of an email to tell me that would not provide a bid takes the cake.
>
> Here is the last communication after three weeks of patiently waiting to order 6+ doors doug fir historic doors. I said to just quote it without the stained glass and ship it with the glass missing as I could provide. Six weeks later: Nada. Zippo. Zilch.
>
> Hi Anne; Not yet – we are still waiting on the custom glass request pricing for the heron/bird you like. Should be this week. Thank you for your patience as this is a very detailed/unique project.

> Just know that if you're buying a door that is 2.25" thick from this company, what they really mean by "solid wood door" is actually glued boards to make up the thickness.Despite any claims of glued boards performing the same as a solid board, they are guilty of false advertising because they dont sell solid wood at 2.25" thick.

**Comment from Vintage Doors:**

> Dear Antionio:
>
> All of our hand-crafted doors are absolutely 100% REAL “Solid Wood." We do not use any veneers, engineered stile/rails, interior (alternative) wood cores or finger joints in our hand-crafted manufacturing process.
>
> Many (most) other door companies in the marketplace claim they sell "solid wood" products, when in fact they do not (they use engineered lumber or cores, and yet still reiterate terms such as "solid wood"). It makes is VERY difficult and confusing for clients to understand what they are actually getting when they come to our company (we offer real solid wood doors). This is where false advertising actually comes into play - by the general door market using terms such as "Solid Wood" when in reality clients have to dig deep to know if their door is 100% mahogany---or not---from competitors.
>
> When ordering a 2 1/4" thick door (or any thickness beyond 1 3/4"), our premium grade lumber is built up (glued up 1x) to achieve a full 2 1/4" (or greater) thickness. This is quite normal on thicker products that are hand-made.
>
> We do not falsely advertise as a company - and we do not mislead any of our valued clients. Ever.
>
> This information was provided to you many months ago - and it seems that by going online today you wish to only hurt a longstanding reputation for quality and honesty, based on a misunderstanding of how real wood products are crafted.

> There are too many good door companies who are not condescending, rude and passive aggressive. This seems to be the mantra from the top down and that is just the start. They use high quality material but to save money join them together rather than using full lengths. Also clearly no quality control look at photo of solid plank door, after weeks of trying to get ordered I agreed to a reveal for some reason according to them it had to be constructed this way? ok. But is this acceptable? Less than 1/8” on one side and more than 1/2” on other? And pet gates stay away. They do bait and switch on sizing if desired gate, species of wood and mechanisms to secure. As for shipping be ready for a day long lecture, more hidden charges and they will dump your crate in middle of street on any other day than scheduled.... in the rain! Finally if you buy expensive hardware from a custom door manufacturer, would you expect them to at least mortise the door... don’t ask you will get another lecture..... just stay away, they hide behind god as well.... they need it. Terrible co. Terrible product and terrible people. Save yourself a lot of aggravation. Just go look on yelp and other sites as I should have done it is very clear this co. Is not good!

**★★★★★ — Mike Lemke, Jan. 2019**

> A fantastic product. All of their products actually are great and the craftsmanship is beautiful. They do both excellent quality and excellent quantity. They treated me with a smile and gave me total respect. I will be ordering there again without a doubt.

> We live in a home built in 1936. It sits on a corner lot and is positioned such that everyone enters through the back. When it came time to replace The back door, I really wanted to get it right. I told around on the Internet using the keywords “vintage” and “doors.” Boy, am I glad I did :-)… I happened upon this very professional looking, user-friendly site vintagedoors.com, and even though my own contractor tried to talk me into something cheaper, I kept going back to that website. Eventually, the desire for exceptional quality of materials and the staff’s eye for design, won out (Thank You, Erica!!!). And thank you Vintage Doors this beautiful African mahogany, beveled glass door that looks like it always should have been there and that is the envy of my friends and neighbors!

**★ — Normandie Lee, Nov. 2016**

> I ordered a custom door from vintage doors in July 2016; turn around time was 6 weeks; when door finally delivered to NorthEast Kingdom of Vermont it was end of September. After about 3 weeks my builders found the door had a crack right down the middle. Long story short I will NEVER order another door from these people. They said they would send the panel that was cracked. It would take a cabinet maker to fix it and door needed at least 3 coats of staining and the lock set drilled to survive cold winters in Vermont. After inspection of the door my builder said the door especially the "cracked" part was not insulated enough. So basically the door ($3000.00) is unusable. After discussing this situation with owner he threatened me if I wrote a bad review! So I am not afraid to say I was very disappointed in this company. Just make sure you know what you are buying because I didn't and lost a good deal of money here!

**Comment from Vintage Doors:**

> Mrs. Lee ordered a custom exterior Douglas Fir Entry door for her home. A beautiful design!
>
> She very specifically requested recessed flat panels, which we do not recommend on exterior 1 3/4" thick doors (as the panels are indeed thinner). To further explain, a flat recessed panel option offers a certain aesthetic that some clients prefer for certain style homes - such as craftsmen style homes. Exterior doors with this type of panel preference should be 2 1/4" thick, to allow for a thicker panel (however, the cost is at a higher premium).
>
> With our hand-crafted products, the lead times vary between 6-8 weeks. We were on schedule with Mrs. Lee's order, but due to the fact that she was not always at this specific home, we held the shipment until a time that was convenient for receipt (when someone could be there to accept and inspect the delivery).
>
> We go through great lengths to ensure customer satisfaction, especially when it comes time to ship and deliver the finished order. These are natural wooden products, and their timely sealing/finishing is VERY important. We send along care instructions with our products, which includes finishing instructions and finish product recommendations. We speak over the phone with each client to set-up deliveries, and explain clearly that doors must be finished between a 1-2 week period of receipt to ensure the wood does not expand and contract.
>
> Unfortunately Mrs. Lee did not follow these instructions, and unfortunately her panel did crack. We are sorry this happened of course, and can only help fix the problem at that point.
>
> Despite her very discourteous demeanor, we warrantied the product at no cost - by immediately sending a new panel and moldings for replacement and install. We explained how the replacement would easily be handled and recommended that her contractor call in to speak with us with any questions. Her contractor, we must say, was very cordial and understood the nature of the situation (as a result of not finishing the door soon enough).
>
> In closing, the last thing our company wants is an unsatisfied customer. We strive to be understanding, courteous and answer any client inquiries (or concerns) in a quick and comprehensive manner.
>
> We do enjoy working with clients who hold the same standard of respect towards our staff as well, which is why the owner here at Vintage Doors had to speak with Mrs. Lee. Despite our efforts, we are deeply disappointed Mrs. Lee would continue to choose to go online to speak poorly of our company.
>
> We know she will enjoy her door for years to come.

> I ordered a Dutch door in knotted Alder for my Southern California 1948 Adobe home and pained over the choices, not wanting to make a mistake in style. Erica and Ashley were both extremely helpful with the details both aesthetically and structurally (with Adobe, there is not room for altering the existing opening, so the door had to fit!) I am incredibly happy with my door, which I had professionally installed. The installer must have commented half a dozen times about what a beautiful, quality door it is. I'm very happy I was patient and ordered my custom door from Vintage.

**★★★★★ — Ravenscourt Landscaping and Design LLC, Sept. 2016**

> I designed and was the GC on my own bathroom remodel in my 1905 Victorian house. I turned a big bathroom you walked thru to get between rooms into a loo closet and a shower room. I wanted door for each side that would slide barn door style. There was nothing in my market. Online I found Vintage Doors. They were very easy to work with and very responsive. Emails answered the same day. Important information and details sent out promptly.
> I ordered paint grade maple louvered doors. I also ordered matching cabinet doors. The air can easily flow through the louvers but there is complete privacy. They came expertly wrapped and in perfect condition. They painted up beautifully. These are quality doors and absolutely worth the price. When they were finished and hung I cried they were so beautiful! A few friends have been over to see the finished bathroom and each one noticed and admired the doors. I can't recommend this company enough! A++

> After an initial purchase of almost $3000, I returned to Vintage Doors for a replacement part. Vintage Doors provided a part with a manufacturing flaw. Howard Demick, the owner of the business, demanded that I accept complete responsibility for the repair of their flaw, and when I refused, he refused to discuss the matter further. Vintage Doors then sent a refund for the purchase price of their flawed product, despite my request that they not. I tried having the product repaired locally, at my own cost, but the repair did not return the product to a newly manufactured condition. I returned the refund check, requesting that Vintage Doors send a replacement product, and suggesting an alternative resolution that, I believed, would be mutually acceptable. Vintage Doors refused to consider any alternatives, and in an email that I did not timely receive, gave me three days to contact them. Unfortunately, I was unable to do so. Based on this, Vintage Doors has kept full payment for the product that was manufactured with a flaw. Despite multiple attempts to find a solution, Vintage Doors has refused to respond to my attempts at communication. Additionally, despite verbal assurances that Vintage Doors would provide assistance with replacement parts or supplies for their custom products (when I originally made my $3000 purchase with them), Vintage Doors will no longer accept any orders from me for parts to maintain the original order.

I have been looking at your photos here on Houzz but have also been checking out your website. Looking for a double entry door in something similar to this style but perhaps in your African Mahogany or a wood species with more of a modern/rustic look. Just curious do you only send out unfinished doors or do you also stain and finish the doors ready for installation when sent? What would the approx. cost be on a double entry door this style, 60" x 80" total width using the African Mahogany, stained and finished ready to install?

A: I apologize for not answering your questions related to finishing.
The door unit would arrive hand-sanded ready for finishing (the finish of your choice).
We are not set-up for full finishing at this time, but do provide detailed instructions on how to properly finish your doors, and also advise on using SIKKENS as the finishing agent. This is an exceptional exterior Door and Window product.
Should you have any questions, feel free to contact us at 1-800-787-2001.
Thanks again, Mindy!

Beautiful. What wood and stain, please? Ordering from you soon!

When you order we can always send wood samples for you to test out ahead of time. The door(s) would arrive hand-sanded, ready for finishing and the stain of your choice. We also send care instructions with the order so you know how to complete the finishing, or have your contractor/finisher complete.
