> My husband and I recently did a total home renovation and had the pleasure of working closely with Glen Grayson. His attention to detail was second to none and the outcome is beautiful! He guided us through the architectural side of the renovation all the way to the interior design offering his expert opinion which was spot on! My family and I will enjoy our home for many years to come and will look back on our time with Glen with very fond memories.

**Comment from Hoffman Grayson Architects LLP:**

> Great design is a team effort. We don't do our best work in a vacuum. One of the reasons why this project was so successful was the willingness of the owners to fully engage in the process, and opening themselves up to new ideas. When that happens, great things are possible, and we all have a good time along the way.

**★★★★★ — Dominick Miciotta, Dec. 2016**

> We have had a wonderful experience with Glen Grayson at Hoffman Grayson Architecture. Glen has helped us take our newly purchased Colonial in Dix Hills and turn it into a Modern Craftsman Colonial showplace with a complete renovation, basement expansion and addition. Glen is an exceptional talent and an artist. His considerable knowledge and experience have been evident throughout the entire process. Glen is also a collaborator and offers informed, principled opinions and guidance at each stage of the design and construction process. He has become an invaluable resource. Additionally, his experience with industry professionals enables him to help you build a fantastic team to work on your project. We were drawn to call him by his online portfolio which, to us, showed someone who was doing more than the cookie cutter renovation / design & build houses, his work appeared to be creative and artistic. We have not been disappointed. When we found we needed a variance on our project, his relationships with the town helped us be well prepared for the experience, which was successful and quick. Do not hesitate to hire Glen for your project.

**Comment from Hoffman Grayson Architects LLP:**

> Working on this project has been a real joy, in large part because of being blessed with responsive clients who are open to exploring new ideas. Furthermore, I was able to bring in other design professionals, and recommend Baskam Construction Services Inc. for construction management, with his A-list of sub-contractors, DaVinci Designs for the millwork, Crystal Meadows Elite Landscaping, and True Blue Pools, a virtual dream team. As this project comes together this winter and spring, I will post photos.

> I am one of the clients for the "Northport Renovation". Glen is a miracle worker. He took a new but poorly designed house and converted it into something that was both beautiful and highly functional. He has a great sense of space and redesigned several rooms around our needs. His taste is exquisite. He was a pleasure to work with start to finish. The only problem is that now I never want to leave my house.

**★★★★★ — Baskam Construction Services, Feb. 2014**

> I am a builder who has constructed various projects with Glen Grayson. Having been in business for over 25 years, I have bid and constructed a tremendous amount of projects from many different architects. Without question, Glens attention to detail and unwavering dedication to his work is unmatched by any other design professional I have worked with. I wholeheartedly recommend Glen for his architectural services.

**★★★★★ — AMI Design, Feb. 2013**

> Glen Grayson is an amazing architect and designer. His creativity and a wonderful attention to detail has always inspired me . I worked for Glen many, many years ago and truly enjoy collaborating with him on projects.

**★★★★★ — Tanya Slamowitz, Jan. 2013**

> Glen Grayson at Hoffman, Grayson has completed many projects for us, beginning with our previous home in Cold Spring Hills. In our current home on the North Shore of Long Island he began by reworking our Master Bathroom & Closet Space, then went on to redo another bathroom shared by our 3 boys, and also completely reworked our Kitchen, which included a laundry room, mudroom, bathroom and Butlers Pantry/Baking Area. Last, he helped coordinate a large landscaping project including a pool and multi level deck/cooking areas with access into our basement. One of the things that we most appreciated about working with Glen is his ability to listen to our needs and wants, and convert them to reality. We wanted to respect the integrity of our century old home with all our renovations, and he managed to update our living space by making it functional and beautiful, but still completely in keeping with the rest of the home. No detail was too trivial, no question too small-and throughout our many renovations I had hundreds of questions. Glen was always accessible and responsive. I highly recommend him and his entire firm.

**★★★★★ — bertpcm, Jan. 2013**

> After living in a home for 12+ years we knew we wanted to renovate, we met Glen and his vision helped us realize the home we wanted. The project was a lengthy one - we were out of the house for 14 months but we love the final result and have enjoyed several years now in a space we could only have imagined. The attention to detail, commitment to achieving a true aesthetic, unparalleled access to the firm and deep knowledge of everyone we dealt with helped make the project run smoothly and made what could have been the most tramautic experience of our lives manageable and memorable.
>
> We did a complete redo - almost nothing remains from the original house. We had to make decisions daily - at every stage of the project, and for every decision no matter how big or small - we were given options and advice which helped us make those decisions.
>
> We truly appreicate all the hard work above and beyond what I would have deemed necessary. If we ever look to do another project, I know we already have an architect and team to work with.

**★★★★★ — suffolk100, Jan. 2013**

> Glen Grayson did a fantastic job on our beach home. We needed extra space and had some idea of what we wanted to do. He transformed our ideas into something that was much better. We appreciated his attention to detail, his excellent design instincts and his availability and responsiveness throughout the construction.

**Comment from Hoffman Grayson Architects LLP:**

> Having a great client is one thing. Having talented staff, and an A+ contractor on the job is all the more.

**★★★★★ — poodler61, Dec. 2012**

> I love the range of this architectural practice. Their attention to detail with design of well proportioned and attractive spaces is a welcome relief to the blandness of typical builder houses. Their talent with space planning and willingness to meet client desires with rational and well conceived lay outs is evident in these photos.

**Comment from Hoffman Grayson Architects LLP:**

> We try to be very responsive to our clients needs, and always try to make the process an enjoyable one. When clients feel like they are a part of the process, it makes for a better experience and outcome.

 - Description: When Paul and I purchased our home in 1999, it was to become a work in progress, spanning some seventeen years and counting. Built in 1929 as a Spanish-style cape on a corner lot, we were originally attracted to the property's size, the wooded hillside and the sweeping giant white pine trees which had framed the front yard. Now lost to disease and age, the pines inspired the naturalist gardens which followed. The house had started as a humble stucco Cape style house on a corner lot, which had a…

 - Location: Northport, NY

 - Description: This mid-century beachfront house survived the ravages of several Nor'easters before my clients purchased it in the later 1990s. Sitting on top of a dune on the Long Island Sound looking north, and across a salt marsh looking south, the site had many microclimates to deal with. The narrow 50' wide lot presented other challenges, the least of which was no visible front entry. Zoning and Building Code restrictions severely limited how large the house could be, and this family with three children n…

 - Description: Beach House (2008 Platinum Award: Entire House over $1,000,000) This project was created for a young professional couple with school age children and an active life style. The owner who was our main contact worked in Manhattan and traveled abroad frequently. Site meetings were quite infrequent. Through a series of digital pictures, PDF documents and emails, we were able to communicate electronically with a surprisingly high degree of efficiency and understanding.

 - Location: Huntington Bay, NY
 - Photos: 31
 - Description: This 1950's brick and cedar shingle ranch in Huntington Bay had good lines, very plain details, and was awkwardly sited on a very chopped up hilly site in Huntington Bay. There was barely a clue as to where the front entry might be. Working with the existing deep overhangs and horizontality, we stripped away the poorly coordinated materials to uncover its Prairie style, infusing Arts and Crafts detailing befitting the naturalized setting. We developed a plan to lift the house slightly off the fo…

 - Description: This contemporary home in Old Field, Long Island, was deigned in the 1960s, and was altered in the 1980s, when an awkward but interesting "periscope" space was added above the existing Master Bedroom. The new owners were looking to expanding the home significantly, and to resolve the awkward architecture, in the spirit of Greene and Greene Architects. The project design is complete, and construction is expected to begin in the Fall of 2014. Partner in charge: Glen Grayson. Project design: Michae…

 - Location: Huntington, NY
 - Photos: 7
 - Description: Built in 1977, this house sat very prominently along a curve in this village street. If houses can have body language, this one said "No, don't come in." The original owner decided, after thirty years, to let us give it a new lease on life. Her program was simple- "I need more space inside, and I want a Porch!" We imagined the rest. Michael Vandrei was able to create an architectural dialogue out of a seeming kit of mismatched pieces. The house suffered from a Ground Floor Garage and unfinished…

 - Description: This beachfront home, substantially renovated in the early 1990s, had a more recent addition that created the two reverse shed gables and an arched reverse gable at the Entry, as well as a small Entry Deck. This is a project on the boards, with construction to begin in late summer, 2014. The current owners were looking to alter that work, to create a more appropriate entry, while expanding the deck, and providing some shelter from the south sun in this stark beachfront setting. - Location: Northport, NY
 - Photos: 23
 - Description: This Northport home, built in the late 90's as a spec house, lacked the features that make a house function well for a family. It had the right complement of spaces, but their design and sizes were awkward. The Kitchen and Family Room were too small, and had too many doorways. The Master Bedroom was too large, leaving inadequate room for a proper master bath and walk-in closets. The solution was to reconfigure spaces within the footprint of the home, to right-size the spaces and open things up.…

 - Description: Family Kitchen (2013 Coty Gold Award: Kitchen over 100K) The very insightful layout of this kitchen / den made it unique, interesting and very functional. The kitchen cabinets are a fully custom inset cabinet created by a local craftsman. Notice the pass through and the nice view over the sink into the pantry. The island is large and it provides a great work surface, seating for their four children for informal meals and plenty of storage. A window seat was designed utilizing space at the far en…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Love it. Paint colors?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What paint colors did you use on the exterior? Thank you.

A: Thank you. The body of the house is cement stucco. The shingles are Cabot Semi-Solid Deck and Siding Oil Stain, 7406, color: Burnt Hickory. The trim is Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior Low Luster Narraganset Green HC-157, which is way more of a murky blue than the green name would imply.

**Q: what size is the tea house** *(in Photo Questions)*

Theodora rezba. Echoridge@ earthlink.net

A: Our Tea House is 8' x 10', with a 6'-8" high plate height. We were limited in size, because my husband and I had to carve out an area on our sloped hill to create a flat area,

**Q: What type of siding was used on this beach home?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Curious about type of siding used. Wood or composite of some type?

A: That was white cedar perfection shingles, bleached and stained at the factory, using Cabots products.

**Q: Exterior colors: Petunia, the Japanese Tea House** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hi, Can you tell me what paint colors were used on the Japanese Tea House? Thanks!!

A: Trim Paint- Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior Low Luster Narraganset Green HC-157, (which is actually a blue, in spite of its name). Shingles- Cabot Semi-Solid Deck and Siding Oil Stain, 7406, color: Burnt Hickory.

**Q: Garage doors** *(in Photo Questions)*

Could you tell me what brand name and color the garage doors are? Thanks!

A: That was thirteen years ago. They were custom doors, maybe Clopayu, clad in mahogany or cedar, if my memory serves me correctly. There are many options presently available in the marketplace today.

**Q: Love the colors!** *(in Photo Questions)*

I can't find BM Nantucket Green. Was it discontinued? I'd also love to know what color the lighter beige/brown is and the tiny pops of red. It's a gorgeous color scheme.

A: Sorry about that. It is Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior Low Luster Narraganset Green HC-157. The tiny pops of red are actually mahogany screen frames. The beige is a cement stucco finish. I hope this helps.
