We became “ softball wives” friends and our friendship grew from there. In 2016, Amy and her contractors did a complete kitchen gut and renovation for my husband and I. Amy oversaw everything, from interviewing tradesmen, to obtaining bids and keeping a close eye on everyday progress. Amy has a good eye for detail, professional craftsmanship and I believe she knew better than I did on what I liked! She listened to my ideas and expanded upon them. The renovation took approximately 5 months ( due to me adding in extra things!). Before construction began, a makeshift kitchen was created in our laundry area and mudroom. I was able to cook for my husband and I throughout the entire construction project. Our floors were covered with clean tarps and during messy times plastic walls were created to contain dust and debris. Our kitchen, living room and dining room were all professionally cleaned afterwards. We now have a beautiful, timeless kitchen that we are absolutely thrilled with. We were so impressed by her work that in 2019 we hired her again for a master bathroom/ bedroom renovation! Again, Amy did her magic and created a beautiful master bathroom with a large 2 person shower with a zero entry floor. Four new windows were also created to bring nature into the space. We feel her design ideas, impeccable eye for detail and professionalism are often hard to find these days. When I met Amy, I connected with her immediately. I had spoken with other designers and had felt as if they did not understand our needs nor our budget. Amy was a breath of fresh air. She understood the vision I had and also provided me with realistic expectations. We asked for a complete design for our family living area, kitchen, dining room and our basement. Amy worked with a wonderful contractor, and together they proposed a massive plan. Knowing our budget, we decided it was best to concentrate on the basement area. We started the project in January of 2014 and the project was completed in May. Through out the project Amy provided us with ideas that were outside of the box and very creative. She also understood that we had a budget and when an idea did not mesh well with that, she found a solution. (For example, we wanted to frame my husband's golf course flags. To do so, we needed custom made frames which would have cost us an extra $500-$1000. We came up with the idea of leaving the glass out which provided more of a relaxed feel which we wanted. She also managed to come up with design to incorporate two chairs from the Civic Arena that made sense and fir in with our basement design!) Can you please share where it's from?** *(in Photo Questions)* Would love to know where the beautiful runner was purchased. A: Hello, I believe the rug was purchased from Surya.com but it has been several years, so I'm not sure they still carry this pattern. **Q: Love the chairs! Where are they from?** *(in Photo Questions)* I would like to know where I can purchase the stools A: Hi Suzanne, the stools belonged to the client. I had my upholsterer make custom slipcovers for them. If you are interested, I can check to see whether the fabric is still available for you. **Q: How is the cooktop vented?** *(in Photo Questions)* What type of cooktop is on the island? We had difficulty with effective venting with ours. A: I just found the model number: JGD3430BS. Whenever an exhaust system makes a turn, efficiency is reduced. In this case, there is only one elbow in the ducting, and the distance to the exterior is also not too far. **Q: Help! what do I do with this wall?!** *(in Home Decorating)* I'm having a hard time deciding what to put on this wall. I can't really put an entry table because the area isn't wide enough. My husband has given me free reign on the decor as long as I stay away from mirrors and clocks, for some reason he really doesn't care for them. The wall is decently large so I feel like any wall art would seem to be swallowed up. I could really use some suggestions. I would also really like to bring some brightness into the room because there's only one window. The walls were previously a brown color before we painted. I went with a light gray for the majority of the room and a blue shade for an accent wall, also happens to be the wall I need help with. A: Looks like the perfect wall for a "gallery" of white-framed pictures. **Q: Color of lighting fixtures?** *(in Lighting)* We're building a home in AZ. The kitchen will have white cabinets with a gray island. The appliances are SS. The countertop on the island is Cambria Quartz New Quay (color). The perimeter of the kitchen counters are a sand colored quartz. The full height tile backsplash is a soft neutral, with shades of cream, gray, sand and white. The flooring is a wood-look - sand colored tile. The lighting store salesman recommended brushed nickel finish for the island pendants and the dining room, to match with the appliances and the kitchen faucet on the island. I'm afraid it might look too cold, sterile and industrial looking. I'd like to warm up the look with a different finish for the lights - say an oil rubbed bronze. I would keep the finish the same for the pendants and dining. Does the great room ceiling fan need to stay the same finish also? So, is it a design mistake to veer away from brushed nickel? Please help me - I'm really struggling with this decision. Thank you! A: First of all, it's OK to mix metals! Mixing metals can add interest and layers to your space. Pewter or antiqued nickel will add some interest; an antiqued copper tone would pick up on the warmer tones in your other materials. Iron finishes would also mix in well. What finish is on your cabinet hardware? Perhaps you can coordinate the lighting and hardware finishes for cohesiveness. **Q: Corner Window Treatments** *(in Design Dilemma)* For years now I have been debating if I should put window treatments on my windows in the living room. I feel the room needs to have some warmth it’s to cold. I just don’t know what to put on them, valances or panels? A: I concur with Rina on the drapery panels, and I would also add low-profile cornices. Underneath, I'd recommend a woven wood shade that incorporates the wood tone from the ceiling.
