Saniee Architects is an award-winning architectural service firm located in Greenwich, Connecticut. We bring together a wide range of experience in a variety of projects across the country.

The majority of our work serves residential and institutional clients who demand the highest quality, attention to detail, and thorough service. We also have experience working with different client types such as corporations, charities, and individuals. We have been successful in establishing a strong working relationship with our clients and many of our current work is with repeat clients. We have won numerous awards for projects in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and Maryland, and have been recognized by local and national publications.

"Sources tell us the talented Mahdad Saniee displays a calm demeanor, subtle color palette and quiet confidence that "won't slap you in the face," but his tasteful and timeless design "will definitely wow you." With traditional detailing and an inventive view the architect pointedly address the needs of his clients, a Saniee home is said to exude a cross between modern and traditional design, using the ideals of classical architecture "as a springboard." His homes incorporate careful ornamentation with subtle traditional elements--and he is known to favor stone construction when it appeals to the client.

Saniee holds two degrees, including a Master of Architecture from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He also studied architecture at the British School in Rome. He started the firm of four in 1995 after working for nine years at the esteemed firm, Centerbrook Architects. The firm accepts five projects each year, and most are residential endeavors, although Saniee is known also for his educational and religious institutional work. Of the residential commissions, many are renovations starting at $400,000, and a few ground-up homes that start at about $1.5 million.

Saniee Architects works mainly in southern Westchester County and across Fairfield County, but has gone as far north as Maine and as far south as Maryland for projects. We're told Saniee is an excellent listener, and respects his clients' limitations, whether they are budgetary or site-related. The firm charges a slightly lower fee based on a combination of hourly rates and percentage of overall construction costs." - Franklin Report

> Mahdad is one of the best and brightest architects I have ever met. I worked with him for several years and he is a true professional always putting his clients first. He is creative with an incredible attention to detail. His knowledge of construction allows him to work well with contractors. I would definitely hire Mahdad for any size project!

**★★★★★ — Beth Joy Goldstein Interior Design Ltd., March 2016**

> Mahdad Saniee is a brilliant architect! He has imagination, wisdom and a flexible mind. He creates beautiful buildings with spaces that people can live in comfortably and call home. I love his use of materials. We have worked together numerous times and I am always impressed by his open mindedness, creativity, talent and great attitude. Mahdad really cares about his client's needs and is able to incorporate them into his vision elegantly. He is a highly skilled professional and it is always a pleasure to work with him.

> My husband and I were so happy we chose Saniee Architects to work on our addition. The project involved adding a game room on the main floor; master bed and bathroom on the second floor; kitchenette, theater room and bathroom in the basement; and converting an existing storage room into an exercise room. We also wanted to change the exterior of the house from an 80s wood siding look to a modern design using wood, stucco, and stainless steel. Mahdad was so creative in his ideas. He was a great listener and knew exactly what we wanted. He inserted interesting touches throughout his designs and was able to create a natural flow from the old part of the house to the new. The end product looks seamless, both on the inside and the outside. I had so much fun working on the addition with Mahdad; and I felt that he possessed a real passion and dedication for the project. He was there every week checking on the progress of the site work and made sure that everything was constructed according to plan. I appreciate his honesty and sincerity and would not hesitate to work with him on another project.

> In the 10 years I’ve worked on projects with this firm, I remain struck by the high quality and personal attention given to each. Mahdad is more than a creative thinker. He is equally gifted at working through the nuances and complexities of a project to guide his clients through pragmatic choices, ensuring that each of his designs is much more than a beautiful magazine-worthy picture. They also function to suit the lives of the people who live in them, in a deeply personal way.
>
> He is incredibly collaborative - able to draw from, expand on, add to, and improve the ideas of the entire team. Any client or professional would be lucky to work with Mahdad and his talented team of architects.

> The architect firm can only be hired when you need to build a $10MM and above brand new mansion. All this firm can be helpful is on paperwork, they are not practical at all and have no clue how to work on a remodeling project with old construction materials.
>
> The main architect likes to take a Bait And Switch approach in the initial pitch and get you ino the contract, and then take time to design/complete the drawings. He doesn't work with your budget as he told you. When the bids from the contractors came, you will be killed with a heart attack and had to give up on the project. In our case, all bids came are 80- 100% higher than the budget we told the architect in the mandate. And at the end we had to walk away from the project and wasted over 90k of architecture fees and carry on costs by vacancy of house.
>
> We had a terrible experience. Unless you have 10MM to build a house otherwise you will not be prioritized and the project will be severely delayed.
>
> Also they are not good at new materials or new technology. We are very surprised to know the design team is not trained to use regular 3D CAD drawing ability. The one they produce for us is horrible, the so called "3D" only have three colors and can't reflect the reality. Therefore we have to buy and learn CAD design tool to make 3D CAD picture ourselves to make aesthetic decisions. And we DID it in two months.
>
> So do not be fooled by this company! We ended up lose a lot of money and time to them.

**Comment from Saniee Architects, LLC:**

> Thank you for your review. As you recall we put your project to bid and received 4 bids based on the amount of work you wished to be included. We then negotiated with the lowest bidder and managed to get their number down to within the price range you had indicated in your contract with us. The final number was well inside the range you had agreed to in writing. Unfortunately the contractor was not able to lower his numbers further considering that you were not willing to reduce the amount of work for them so that they could meet your new budget. As architects we can assist our clients in getting firm and competitive bids from any contractor our client wishes, but we cannot dictate prices to contractors.
> You did not pay us $90,000. We received a fraction of that number for our fees and waived the remainder of what you owed us when we parted company over 9 months ago and we also gave you the construction drawings as a courtesy and a gesture of good will.
> We did provide you with multiple 3D images of your home in the new design in the color selection you had indicated. As I explained at the time it is much less expensive to generate photo realistic 3D images from outside sources.
> I am sorry we were not able to assist you further. We have been in business for decades and have helped numerous satisfied clients with their projects from a tiny kitchen renovation to large new homes. We have a large number of projects from repeat clients. In our experience a successful project requires the willingness of both the contractor as well as the home owner to have some flexibility. We wish you success in your project.

**★★★★★ — MKAD, March 2014**

> Mahdad listens to his client to give them the best design to fit their lifestyle and taste. He provides a high level of detail and professionalism. He's willing to entertain all design ideas as long as it doesn't compromise the architectural integrity of the design. He's pleasure to work with and would highly recommend him to anyone.

  - Description: This is a major renovation and addition to a 1920s “grand house” of its day. There was a great deal of charm in the old structure and much potential in the setting. The old back yard was overgrown, the protruding ledge and uneven terrain squeezed the views of the back. Also the development on the neighboring properties and the change in the surface water movement had severely limited the potential for reclaiming the back of the property. The renovation/addition aimed at reclaiming the oldest par…
