### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Capitol Glass & Metals LLC, Jan. 2018**

> We have worked with Doug on a few projects and he is one of the most knowledgeable and easiest project managers we have had the pleasure of working with. We started working with Thorsen in late 2016 and it has been an absolute pleasure. Their attention to detail and quality of work truly displays that Thorsen is all about ensuring their customer's happiness. They are a premium builder for a reason, they are second to none. If I were to build a home I would use Thorsen.

**★★★★★ — Terry Simmons, June 2017**

> I had interviewed several contractors and felt comfortable with Thorsen form the beginning. I was a bit nervous working with one company for construction and another for design and cabinets in the event there was a problem I did not want to be stuck in the middle. They recommended Southern Kitchens and they did an excellent job! James was always responsive to my requests and stopped by almost every day. The workers were always very courteous, professional and cleaned up every day. The cabinet installers are fantastic! There was a drawer under the cook top that did not fit and they came up with a creative way to make it work. My favorite person was Mario who was in charge of framing and carpentry work. When Mario was on site I knew only good things would happen. He paid attention to detail and always offered creative ideas when running into an unexpected problem. My only negative is when we got close to the end they needed to put resources on other projects. I did have a functioning kitchen but it was little things like under cabinet lights, door knobs, and switch plates, etc. that went a few weeks over the time frame.
> I would highly recommend Thorsen Construction and would use them again for other projects. I love my kitchen and never tire of hearing the complements.

**★★★★★ — Econize Closets & Blinds, Aug. 2016**

> We have been working with Thorsen Construction for the past 3 years on various projects and it's been a pleasure every single time. Every job goes smoothly and the communication is top-notch. We have been greatly satisfied working with Thorsen Construction and would highly recommend them.

> The very best the DC area has to offer. I have worked with these folks for years and their quality and service is 2nd to none.

> We were very fortunate to have worked with Thorsen Construction in the renovation of our 1930's home into a beautiful living environment that exceeded our expectations. The project, led by James Thorsen and managed by Doug Richmond demonstrated a commitment to excellence at every level. At every stage, the Thorsen team, working in conjunction with our stellar architect, Matt Ossilinksi, was focused on excellence that resulted in a home that is elegant, highly functional, and mechanically sound. Throughout the process, James and Doug addressed our questions and concerns, bringing their extensive experience and expertise to the issue at hand. Their commitment to excellence, which is a trademark of the Thorsen family-held company, has ensured that our home is a spectacular living space where we that we will be able to age in place for which we are very grateful.

**★★★★★ — MODE4 Architecture, PLLC, May 2016**

> Top-notch construction services. Very professional and efficient. No hidden costs. I wish I could have Thorsen build more of my projects!

**★★★★ — Margo Williams, March 2016**

> Bob and his team built an addition for us 10 yrs ago and it has stood the test of time for sure. They did high quality work, although they did sometimes need owner oversight. In the end, we were very happy. They were fair and honest and the workers and subs were all great.

**★★★★★ — lindooley, Feb. 2015**

> Thorsen Construction did a wonderful job with our remodel/addition. They worked closely with the architect and always thought about quality and attention to detail. Our site manager was amazing in his positive approach to everything; he was a joy to work with. I felt extremely comfortable having each and every tradesman inside my house. We slipped with regard to a few deadlines related to the weather and although it was frustrating, in hindsight it is clear they managed our project and the others they were working on at the same time as best they could. I highly recommend Thorsen Construction.

**★★★★★ — Bill Dorn, Feb. 2015**

> I've worked extensively with Thorsen Construction for nearly three decades and three generations of Thorsen Family leadership. Their entire organization is first rate... prompt, courteous and professional. Often, I must travel to their projects and I get to see first hand the wonderful work they do. An outstanding family run business I would recommend to anyone considering a remodel, addition or custom home.

**★★★★★ — susancava, June 2014**

> Thorsen is the process of building an addition to our master bedroom with a bay window and a larger walk-in closet, installing new floor tile in the kitchen and new windows. They will be expanding and completely renovating the master bath; renovating the guest bath; and designing and building an entertainment center in our family room.
>
> When the excavation work was off to a slow start, the problem was resolved by Thorsen by replacing the subcontractor with their own employees. They arrive at 7 am and sometimes work as late as 7 pm, and as a result within several weeks are completing the addition. The workers and James Thorsen Vice President of Construction who oversees the work are courteous, friendly, and professional, and the latter keeps us informed of the status of the work and any challenges they may be experiencing.
>
> Charles L. Carruthers the architect who drew up the plans was also professional and courteous as well as Thorsen's interior decorated Mary Carol Davis.

**★★★★★ — cardunn, March 2014**

> We had the pleasure of working with Thorsen for our home renovation last summer. They are truly professionals, in every sense of the word. They are highly knowledgeable, skilled craftsmen, and a pleasure to be around. We had a tight timeframe for our project and Thorsen delivered on time! We often popped into our home throughout the renovation and Thorsen's crew was always courteous and willing to show us the progress they had made. We had some very challenging tile work to be done in one of our new bathrooms and Thorsen was very patient and willing to work with us to lay the tile as we planned. There were many other areas of our project Thorsen went above and beyond on and we are truly grateful for their dedication and persistence to delivering the highest quality work. We are thrilled with our new home and very much enjoyed getting to work with Thorsen. I cannot recommend them highly enough!

> Our experience with Thorsen Construction couldn't be more positive. Timely, professional, neat, and the highest quality work. They were understanding and took the time to explain options and potential issues requiring resolution. The job involved cabinetry, electrical, flooring, plumbing, appliances, gas hook-ups, and painting. The work was completed on time and with extraordinary results. We are completely satisfied and look forward to our next project with them.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Where are the lanterns from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where are the lanterns from?

A: Jen, those lanterns are from the Ralph Lauren Home collections. Thanks!

**Q: Ceiling height ?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Do you know how tall ceiling ?

A: The ceiling height is approximately 9ft. Thank you for your question!

**Q: Gorgeous! Do you know the manufacturer of the backsplash tile?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I designed by kitchen essentially around a basketweave backsplash (the Sonoma Tilemakers' Vinters Reserve 2X8 arch). Our tile store had told us that the tile would be available in an off-white color called Oyster. We've done the whole kitchen now, and apparently the tile is not going to come in Oyster. The available colors look truly awful with the cabinet color, so I'm desperately searching for a creamy white basketweave look -- just like this one! I've been unable to locate anything. Any clues you could provide as to the manufacturer of this tile, name, etc. would be much appreciated! Thanks so much!

A: The Tile was purchased from Renaissance tile and bath in Alexandria, VA. http://www.renaissancetileandbath.com/about.html
I believe the tile is a bright white but may look creamy because of the lighting of the picture, but please feel free to check with them. Thank you for your question!

**Q: Beautiful. Do you remember where you go the stools? Thx.** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: @ekgalla they were purchased by the homeowner so I'm not 100% sure where they were purchased. I found these stools from Pottery Barn that are very similar if not the same stool. http://www.potterybarn.com/products/napoleon-backless-barstool/?pkey=cbarstools&

Thank you for your question!

**Q: Floor tile** *(in Photo Questions)*

What floor tile, color and grout is used on shower floor?

A: This tile was custom ordered by the designer from Australia and then custom cut into the small pieces in the shower. Thank you for your question!

**Q: Could you please tell what field tile and grout color was used?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The field tile was 2x4 hummingbird fluid crackle from Architectural Ceramics. The grout was a Oyster Gray from Architectural Ceramics as well. Thank you for your question!
