**★★★★★ — Cathy Hiatt, June 2024**

> Five years ago my husband and I purchased a piece of land with a small cottage. Our plan was to
> have the cottage demolished and build a home with a one floor living plan to accommodate my
> mobility issues. We called Brewster Thornton Group Architects, and met with Patrick Connors. At that first meeting we decided to go with his group. Over the next year we had many meetings with Patrick as well as his associate Peter Ciminello, going over their suggestions and incorporating all of our requests. I am very particular and with their help I had input on every detail. During construction both Patrick and Peter visited the site regularly to ensure that the plans were being followed. After being in the house for three years now we are extremely happy with the results. Patrick and Peter were very easy to work with and helped make what seemed at first to be an overwhelming task into a successful and rewarding experience.
> Brewster Thornton Group Architects has our highest recommendation.

**★★★★★ — klangrock, Nov. 2022**

> We were recommended to Brewster Thornton by our Realestate agent after purchasing a home during the pandemic. Our initial meetings with Patrick and his team were via “zoom”, you’d think that would be difficult when renovating an entire 200 year old home, but it wasn’t! Patrick and his team were amazing! Their attention to detail is incredible, they transformed our 1823 house into a home that functions in 2022, without losing any of the charm. We can not say enough about Brewster Thornton’s quality of work, we could not be happier with the results!

**★★★★★ — Beth Ryder, March 2019**

> Fantastic experience working with Patrick Connors for the second time. This project was a renovation of our second floor, including bathrooms and bedrooms as well as the addition of central air conditioning. Pat is very detail oriented and has wonderful ideas to incorporate into every step of the project. As one of many examples, he transformed the end of a hallway into an office nook. Excellent at listening to and advocating for you during the inevitable rough spots in the project. Cannot say enough positive things about him, would trust him with any project you are considering.

**★★★★★ — Kerin Hamilton, Nov. 2017**

> Brewster Thornton was recommended to us by our contractor and we are thrilled with what the team presented us with. Ahead of the project, we had specific ideas and photos for the interior of our addition/renovation but never gave much thought to what the exterior would look like. Mary and Pat incorporated all of our wishes and must haves on the inside while delivering an outstanding plan for the exterior that truly completed our dream home. We are thrilled with the final product!

**★★★★★ — James Boyd, Sept. 2017**

> Recommended to us by a RI builder and we couldn't be more pleased with the professionalism of Mary Brewster and her team and the work product created to bring our vision to reality in the renovation of our home. Mary had inspiring and creative insights to help us attain the vision we had for transforming our modest cape cod design into our dream home with tasteful design. She masterfully crafted design elements to meet our expectations and the goals of creating sun filled rooms with energy efficiency. We would not hesitate to recommend Brewster Thornton Group Architects to anyone!

**★★★★★ — mgregory2, April 2016**

> Since 2013, Mary Brewster did two renovation projects for us on a house she originally designed a decade before on spec as part of a small residential neighborhood development of nine unique homes, built by the developer, Jeremy Sherer of Suburban Renewal of North Kingstown RI.
> In our renovations, Mary introduced many wonderful, creative, and fitting touches. She reconfigured the downstairs layout, greatly improving the functionality of the house -- adding a beautiful dining room and adjacent dry bar, relocating, and enlarging various windows and doors, and introducing a custom pergola over the deck -- all in all, enhancing views and physical connections with the outdoors. At the same time she preserved the character and original square footage of the house. Most recently she's redesigned our kitchen with some seemingly small changes that have absolutely transformed the space, increasing light, improving functionality, and enhancing character. Mary is creative, professional, efficient, and experienced -- and such a pleasure to work with! We are so happy to have hired her and her firm.

**★★★★★ — skiernan74, March 2016**

> We live in a small cape and had decided to gut the 2nd floor to gain additional space in both bedrooms and modernize the full bathroom. Having already lived through a major renovation of the 1st floor, we knew we needed an architect. Pat Connors of Brewster Thornton Group listened to our needs and helped us refine them. After coming to terms with detailed plans, Pat provided insight and direction for our GC and subs that greatly increased the quality of the renovation and the usability of our home. Pat's creativity, professionalism and easy-going style made him a pleasure to work with. We could not have asked for better architect to partner with!

**★★★★★ — a\_memmolo, March 2016**

> We've used Brewster Thornton now for 2 projects; our master bedroom addition most recently, and a mudroom addition 7-8 years ago. We worked with Pat Connors, and found that he and his staff listened to what we wanted, and worked with us to fine tune our project according to our needs and budget. When issues came up (as they inevitably will), they were available and responsive, and came up with creative solutions to keep things moving. Both projects turned out beautifully, and we would most certainly use them again.

**★★★★★ — jmyee1975, Feb. 2016**

> My husband and I hired Brewster Thornton Group, Patrick Connors, last year to create a design for a kitchen/living room renovation and second floor dormer window addition. Knowing the degree of difficulty for this project was high- choosing Brewster Thornton Group was the right decision.
>
> The experience and knowledge of Patrick and his team was evident from day one. Prior to any drafting of prints, meticulous measurements of existing home structures were taken. This was reviewed carefully and thoughtfully more than once, and portrayed entirely in the initial rendering. At this point it was clear- with Patrick's attention to detail and attentive listening to the desires of the homeowner, we were in good hands.
>
> Patrick prepared designs that replaced load bearing walls with steel beam installations hidden in the ceiling; rerouted major plumbing lines from second floor to basement via beautiful, decorative columns; laid out a floor plan for cabinets providing the highest level of functionality in our kitchen while graciously transitioning the design detail to the living room; and created a stunning second floor dormer addition including our home's new focal point, a gorgeous, center window ensconced by two smaller windows on either side.
>
> The end result has completely transformed both the look and function of our home inside and out. The design exceeded our expectations and we are beyond pleased. We would recommend Patrick and Brewster Thornton Group to anyone!

**★★★★★ — danieldouc, July 2015**

> Listening, Hearing, Nurturing a vision--this is how we'd characterize our experience with Brewster Thornton Group.
>
> We purchased a small bayside property that had been in my family for over 50 years. Breathtaking 180-degree bay views...but a sadly run-down dwelling. Brewster Thornton listened deeply and patiently to our imaginings--and anxieties--about our ambition of transforming the property to fully realize its potential. We described our goal as "New England cottage meets mid-century chic." Simple, right? Amazingly, in the first rendering Mary Brewster and her team delivered beautifully!
>
> We are overwhelmed each day by the beauty of our new home and so grateful to Brewster Thornton Group for changing our life.

**★★★★★ — Alan Harlam, April 2015**

> Mary and her team brought inspiration, vision, and professionalism to a year-long gut rehab project to a 92-year old house that sorely needed it. We are 110% delighted with the final product - and are grateful that we selected Brewster Thornton as our architect. The project came in on schedule, on budget and fully met our expectations for livability and beauty. I am a raving fan - and happily recommend her to anyone that asked.

**★★★★★ — houseideas112, Nov. 2014**

> Mary Brewster's expertise in making the architectural plans, helping us to select the right builder and overseeing the work during the project has been invaluable. Her knowledge of building materials has helped the project to be better than we ever imagined.

 - Description: This young family searched for an appropriate size home that could be modified to accommodate the future needs of their special needs child. BTGA was instrumental in getting a variance on an archaic building code that had hindered the process for the client. A ranch was found that facilitated the creation of easy access between each room while still maintaining a family feel. Among the additions built were a front entry ramp, an interior ramp leading in from the garage, a shower room with capaci…

 - Description: The Fred E. Church House in Barrington, RI, was originally built in 1888 as a 1-1/2 story clapboard cottage featuring unique exterior detailing of the area’s Bracketed style. Though not on the National Historic Register, the farmhouse borders an historic district and is reflective of the small scale, rural homes of its period. The house had deteriorated from neglect, making the option to start over with a new, larger structure a temptation, especially given the large lot. However, the owners rec…

 - Description: The opportunity presented this young couple was to build their own home as part of a loose family compound in Jamestown, RI. While complementing with the other family structures, the house had to express their own personalities and needs. Tight imitations of the parent's house (also designed by BTGA) were not the best way to go. Water views of the Bay and Newport were the focus of the main spaces of the house. An angled plan animated the spaces and brought the views into every corner. The angles…

 - Description: Street-side, the public experiences this Barrington property as an elegant 1930's home – demure, unassuming, reserved. But the residents – and architects – revel in its dual personality. The property’s serious façade dissipates into a beguiling suburban paradise where “fun” dictated every element of the 2014 renovation. The owners purchased the property with the vision of creating “amenities” for their children and friends. The collection of ancillary structures on site already included a cabin,…

 - Description: A couple of renovations with the same design team and the same construction team has culminated in a great new vision for a young growing family’s residence. Starting with an old peculiar farmhouse near Newport, the Architects and the talented owner/interior designer transformed an unresolved exterior and difficult plan into a stylish beachy shingle style home with a fun and funky interior. Before this work, the house had grown prosaically over the years. Although anchored with an octagonal towe…

 - Description: A whole house remodel of a family beach house in RI. Some photos show before and during construction. The idea was to come up with carefree finishes and an open interior that took better advantage of the light and views available. The green-est houses are the ones already built! There was a lot of possibility, very well hidden, in the house built by family two generations ago in a RI bay community. Our clients saw the potential for this transformation and made the leap of faith to continue the f…

 - Description: Your vacation house can help pull you into another state of mind. There is no sense in living just as if you were in the city when the outdoors beckons. This house makes you want to play outside (and in)! Our clients loved life along this tidal river, and decided to build a new house on their lot to take advantage of all it had to offer. They asked for good indoor – outdoor connections, places for the whole family to gather, a separate space that felt like a guest house, and a big lawn for kids…

 - Description: Sometimes renovation will make a house more “itself” than it was before. This seaside, Cape-style house underwent a careful renovation and received a small addition. The clients wanted an outdoors-oriented, easy-to-maintain property that would allow more time at the beach. Changes needed to be focused, well-tuned and en-pointe. The first step was a review of the coastal regulations in play at the site and the development of a master plan that showcased the possibilities of this waterfront locati…

They loved traditional bungalow design and asked us to lay out a house for them using that type of massing and details. **Q: beautiful floor. where is tile from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

love the color!

A: Thanks for your interest! We love it too! This tile was sourced from a local Rhode Island vendor, Quality Tile Co. If you are located in RI, MA, or CT check them out!

How wide are the Shiplap planks

A: Hmmmm..... Not entirely sure, but probably 5.5" is most likely. Tightening that up to 4" is still a great look if the space has a more intimate scale than this master bathroom.

Thanks, for your interest in our project!
