This is the third house we have had built and although this is the largest of the 3, the experience has been the smoothest. > We interviewed several other custom builders and walked through dozens of houses in different stages of construction and Cranbrook was the only one that consistently showed quality in both the structure itself and the crews doing the work. > Steve McKay is gifted and truly an expert at what he does. What we feel makes the Cranbrook building experience 2nd to none, is their entire team (from the Top to Bottom). We consulted with 4 other builders (3 custom), and decided to give Cranbrook the nod to construct our home based on their home design and building process. > The experience started the time we walked in the model (office), and we were introduced to Beverly (Bev) Moceri. She did an excellent job on selling their product (custom homes) to us, as she took her time to carefully explain Cranbrook’s building process. Bev explained how we would select a model from their portfolio and work directly with Stephen McKay (Cranbrook VP & Architect) to fine tune (make any adjustments to the floor plan), and finalize our design. In addition to being able to work directly with Steve, Bev also explained how all of their customers would be working with each one of their vendors (i.e. flooring, stone & brick, low voltage, appliances, etc...). We were given a vendor selection book that helped guide us through the process of meeting with each vendor. This was a very nice touch as we were able to customize / personalize every part of our home based on the options each vendor had with respect to their product choices. > Steve was very helpful throughout the process, first tweaking our design several times, and then providing much needed feedback from time to time. Our construction manager was Corrado, and he was never too busy for listening and addressing the concerns we had with our build. He was very responsive and took a lot of the stress out of the building process. His supervisor, Dave Hamilton was just as responsive as he spoke to us several times to make sure his team’s performance was living up to our expectations. > My wife and I have kept in contact with the Cranbrook team since we closed this past January, and they have been more than helpful in providing additional advice and guidance (i.e. epoxy flooring, deck building, generator install, etc…). We shopped around and found that they had the best design and value. We especially liked the different finishes that they offer like reclaimed beams and the zinc patina finishes. We requested the kitchen, mudroom and master be expanded. Despite multiple meetings with the architect discussing this and it being in our contract, it didn't happen. This was a huge disappointment since we spent so much time discussing with the builder how important expanding the kitchen was to us. Despite the email backup and wording in the contract, he denied ever agreeing to it after the fact. He said he put the extra square footage somewhere else. Well, I'm still looking for it. I wish I would have had an independent architect verify the dimensions on the plans. Shame on us for not catching the error on the plans. > > After a year in the house. I am still unhappy that the kitchen wasn't expanded and that the standard size was built.
