> Jula made us fall in love with my home again. She took into account my husband and my (sometimes very different) tastes, our day to day life, the space/light we have, and even my cultural background- and she transformed my home from top to bottom. And she even added some special touches to make the space unique and special to US. She came to every meeting with a strategy, she went to the different stores to TRY the furniture for us, and was here when everything was delivered to place it in the right place and decorated just right. Jula is also an incredible person, making the whole experience pleasurable. I now consider Jula a trusted partner and a friend.

> When my husband and I decided to take the plunge from city living to the Montclair suburbs we were so excited. The idea of furnishing a house sounded fun and easy. Boy was I wrong, after random purchases that went awry, I realized I needed the help of a professional. Jula was methodical and very patient with me. By following her process the rooms looked connected, and flowed. She also didn’t push her own preferences on me at all and really helped me develop my own style/aesthetic. But she also was okay with gently nudging me away from, what in hind site would have been bad choices hahaha. She worked within our budget, never went over, and helped us find which pieces to splurge on and alternatives when necessary. I would recommend Jula to anyone! She was wonderful.

> As I sat on the empty floor of our new home with many paint swatches thinking, I can do this myself, I realized how much I needed help. Thankfully, I was introduced to Jula and soon realized how invaluable she was from start to where I am now, (as I am still working on the finish). She took the time to sit in each room with large paint swatches (that she created) to see which color worked best with the light in that room. On some things, I had my own ideas and on others I had none. She helped execute both my ideas and to incorporate my style in areas where I had no idea. She helped tremendously with scale. Both my husband and myself like large furniture however, she helped in directing us into the appropriate size furniture for our Victorian home with lots of smaller rooms. Most importantly for us is that she helps at our own pace. If we are not financially ready to do something, we wait and do what we can as we go. She works on every budget and style to make your home represent you. I wanted my house to feel like a home and represent my family and what we liked and not like a designer had put their stamp on my home. She helped to do that, was a pleasure to work, and my kids love her to boot! We are big Jula fans and highly recommend her all the time!

> Jula was one of the first people I met when I moved to Montclair, as she was recommended by my realtor, and she is still one of the BEST people I know in Montclair. We live in a six bedroom 1920s home and Jula worked with me to transform each room into exactly what I imagined for the space. When we first met, I told Jula I wanted my home to be an oasis from my chaotic job and it is exactly that. People will tell me that they feel a sense of calm when they walk into our home and Jula created that interior through her design. It’s worth mentioning that I have two toddlers and Jula has created a space that allows them to be kids and play, but it does not look like the kid’s toys overtook the house.
>
> One thing I found particularly special about Jula, besides her warmth and amazing eye, is her willingness to make the experience of decorating your house a team effort. I love design, so she worked with me to be part of the process. My husband did not understand why we needed an interior decorator when we moved into our house because I love design, but after seeing Jula transform each room, he is won over and now we are both squarely on Team Jula.

> The first thing you should know, is that I never write reviews for professionals.
> Jula Cordeira is the exception because she is simply exceptional. From conception to completion, she will work within your budget, combining a strong opinion for each design element, with knowledge of other necessary components, such as construction, painting and tiling. The design concept she proposes will not be limited to the confines of the area of focus, it will encompass and complement the character of your entire home.
>
> Full disclosure, my husband and I are the most difficult clients a designer could encounter. We question, overthink, delay and then re-think again. Jula has not only been our designer, she has been our advisor and anchor throughout the process.
>
> We began working with Jula on a kitchen re-model. The single job, morphed into including the dining room, living room and now family room.
>
> Did I mention that she’s exceptional.

> If you are considering engaging a designer to help with any renovation projects, I would highly recommend Jula Cordeira. If, like me, you have a lot of ideas of your own, she is the perfect choice. Although strong in her own creative perspective, she is able to give guidance in a way that enables your vision to come to life while avoiding any aesthetic and/or costly errors. Additionally, she can run interference with your contractor on issues of scheduling and budgeting with tact and firmness.
>
> In sum, I could not have accomplished my recent condo renovation without Jula's help, encouragement and good humor and I would recommend her without reservation.

> We bought a 5,000sqf 1907 house in Montclair, NJ. Jula was the best that could happen to us, she was able to keep the character of the house and integrate our European modern taste with some elegant elements. She is very professional, has a wonderful character and she has the incredible capacity to interpret our taste. She decorated our house making it our home and she is still working with us on several other projects, garden, bathroom renovations, etc. In addition, she helped us to decorate our brownstone in Brooklyn before putting into the market and we got several offers.
> I would highly recommend her for small projects and for bigger projects. I trust her blind!

> Jula was a pleasure to work with from start to finish of our project. Her expertise and gentle guidance was invaluable. She kept the project on track and advised us in every aspect of the work as we went along. Jula was able to delicately bridge the differences between two very opinionated people (myself and my husband) in a way that we both felt respected and couldn't be more pleased with the result. I recommend her highly and wouldn't hesitate to hire her for another project.

**★★★★★ — Jillian Culver, Oct. 2015**

> Jula helped us transform our 1890s Victorian with very few walls into a functional bright and welcoming space for us and our 3 young boys. After making a few expensive mistakes on my own I realized I realized it was well worth it to work with Jula. As an added bonus I began to enjoy finding my "style" instead of getting stressed by it.

**★★★★★ — jennifer8659, Sept. 2015**

> Jula is our heroine! Her impeccable taste, excellent color sense, sympathetic suggestions and very do-able task list made staging our home a pleasure, as well as very profitable. Her creative solutions and aesthetic sensibility have given us a fresh outlook for our new space, and we recommend her highly!

**★★★★★ — dramb, Sept. 2014**

> Jula is a fabulous designer. She guided us throughout our projects from beginning to end. She helped us define each step of the process. She understood our vision, and worked within our budget, provide creative options at each turn, managed outside merchants and our builder, addressed unforeseen obstacles, and even added unexpected gorgeous finishing touches upon completion. Professional and easy to work with, I couldn't have been more satisfied with Jula's work.

**★★★★★ — jasbar, Sept. 2014**

> My wife and I are too busy to waste time with needless rounds of interior design ideas and proposals. Jula had the experience and insight to get what we wanted from our first meeting. Add her creative skills and we have several rooms she did in our house that always elicit terrific views from visitors. Jula Cordeira is a pleasure to work with. We will hire her in the future without hesitation.

**★★★★★ — Helen Kluger, Aug. 2014**

> Jula has guided us with all the paint colors and placement of furniture within our home. She has an excellent eye for color combinations and the best possible color choice to downplay less desirable aspects of a room. Her choice of accessories to enhance the room design is always right on target. Jula has the ability to listen to her clients wishes and make them a reality.

**★★★★★ — oliverly, Aug. 2014**

> I am a Realtor in Essex County. I recommend Jula frequently to clients who need to stage their homes for sale as well as decorate the homes they purchase. I rely on Jula to ensure that the staging is completed in time for professional photography prior to marketing the properties, and she has always delivered. In our most recent collaboration, Jula transformed the house from top to bottom, resulting in a sales price $100,000 above list price. She is currently assisting the same client in the remodeling and decoration of their new home.

> You have probably gone through something like this more than once yourself.
> Yes, I'm talking about moving. It's something we all dread. You finally find the right place to live and then comes the question: Will my furniture fit? Will my rugs fit? What about the colors on the walls, will it all work?
> Moving to a new place can be overwhelming but not when you have Jula on hand. She had a plan for us. Jula measured our existing furniture and new apartment, and using her interior design program, she planned multiple spaces for us. She gave us options so we could decide which ones worked the best for us. When moving day came, thanks to Jula we already knew where to place all of our "stuff" and I have to say it really saved us a lot of time and frustration. We didn't have to re-shuffle furniture back and forth like we had to during our previous move. She had a place in mind for everything.
> The existing colors on the walls were definitely not something we could live with, so we asked Jula to help us. The colors she chose made a huge difference. It made our kitchen and hallway seem bigger. The living room and other rooms now complemented each other perfectly. You can tell that she is very passionate about colors and has a great feel for choosing the right ones for any space. Her collection of over-sized hand-painted color samples is pretty impressive and made it a breeze to make our choice. No multiple trips to the hardware store, no painting samples on the walls. Within minutes we had chosen our colors. Done.
> Now I hope we will never move again, however, if we do, I know just the right person to hire to come to the rescue........

## Community Q&A

**Q: Want to do a kitchen remodel.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Newly divorced and moving at the end of the month and this will be my new kitchen. I an torn between gutting and starting over or just trying to incorporate what is here, It's really not that old. But is soo blah ! I am not a designer so not sure what is missing. I feel like that cook top wall should provide the wow factor. Maybe tile? I even thought about a round stained glass up high. If I kept these cabinets would painting the island black be ok? The main working problem that I see is there is no wide prep area. ( I cook a lot ) What about changing the island to one level? But sink clutter would show. Or could I leave it two level and make just the sink part of the island deeper to give more prep area? I am fairly new here (love this site) and would welcome any suggestions. The third picture is the a breakfast nook that is fourth side of the kitchen area to give you perspective. Thank you!

A: It's a beautiful space but everything is the same color. The walls are neutral but you might consider finding a beautiful color for the wall to break up all the same color

**Q: The room just doesn't feel cozy. Help please** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are in the process of looking for new family room furniture and are trying to make the room feel a little more cozy and put together. The room is fairly large (25' x 20') but has a lot of windows, doors and openings. We talked about potentially doing a sectional, but we're not sure how it would look. We have the following problems:
1\. 2 focal points (I don't like a TV over the fireplace....)
2\. Too many windows and doors- it seems that we are always blocking something
3\. Room feels disjointed- It seems that everyone is very far apart

How do we pull this room together without making it look cluttered?
Thanks

A: Create a stronger focal point in the seating area by finding a rug with a strong graphic pattern. That will bring the focus into the center of the room. The add accessories in that area that relate to the rug.
Have a professional or find a on line program to create a floor plan so you purchase the correct size rug
Remove extra furniture that is not in the seating area( shelf by window, low table by window) which distract from your new focus

**Q: New house. Can't decide on wall color** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are moving into a new house that I want to repaint. My taste is more towards a calm and serene home. The pictures I've attached are of the home as the previous owners decorated it, so the furniture is not ours. We will be buying new furniture so it's a pretty clean slate except for the floors, cabinets and countertops. The sitting area part of the room has many windows that over look a pond. So there is a natural backdrop. I don't know whether to go with warm or cool colors or lighter or darker than the cabinets. I like a rustic type of feeling. However, it will be the main sitting room for the house. Help, pleast!

A: It's amazing what painting cabinets can do to a space. Suddenly you aren't limited by your kitchen cabinet colors! You could repaint them in a cream or gray and find a wall color that compliments them for the rest of the space. The color should relate to the beautiful view outside so perhaps green would work.
