**Q: need help with cabinet hardware, color and backsplash** *(in Design Dilemma)*

i want to update/modernize my kitchen. i decided not to reface due to cost (quoted 17-23K). do you think this modern hardware would go with my light wood traditional kitchen cabinets? or would it be better to just paint my cabinets white to make it a bit more updated? and which of these backsplash tiles complements my current cabinets if i decide not to paint it white? any advice would be appreciated!

A: I would use a Sherwin Williams paint and paint white. Use the bar handles horizontally, even on the doors, along the bottom frame. The backsplash with some SS inserts to set the handles off. Best of luck !

**Q: In Need of Appliance Advice** *(in Design Dilemma)*

What is recommended for appliances in a custom kitchen for a home that will be in the 2,000,000.00 plus range and is a resale home? Do you recommend going with all the same brand or can you mix brands as long as they are high end brands? What do you recommend for sizing for the range and fridge? We are going with a commercial style pro range and a built-in fridge. The kitchen is large approximately 20' x 12'. Looking forward to your comments. Any other tips are welcome.

A: The stainless steel colors can differ. Also bearing in mind that finger marks and scratches can be a long term problem with SS refrigerators. I have designed kitchens where I place refrigerator drawers under the island by the breakfasting area and the 'big' one in the pantry.

**Q: Need Help with Kitchen Remodel** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are looking to remodel our kitchen. Interested in shaker style cabinets in both white and gray - very popular these days, with some bells and whistles - soft closing, some with glass doors, and definitely 42" with both a light rail and some molding. Also need a panel for side of fridge, etc.. Would love thoughts on non custom cabinets from places like Home Depot and Cabinet Discounters. We have a quote from a semi-custom cabinet line, but would like to compare. Some contractors have told us not to spend a lot on cabinets.

A: I would suggest working with a local custom cabinet maker. Look for one that comes highly recommended. Best of luck !

**Q: Paint colour for kitchen?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I was thinking a light bluish-gray, but I would like to tone down the knotty pine cupboards which I have decided to keep as is for now. Maybe something with a yellow undertone would help with that? Any suggestions of Sherwin William paint colours? I have wood beam ceilings and am in the midst of painting out all of the cheap builder's trim white. (It was stained dark). I think we may be putting a slate floor in the kitchen too. I'd appreciate any input! Thanks!

A: Looking at your colors, I would suggest a very light green. A very light moss green. Not blue. It will pull all the colors together. Best of luck !

**Q: Need help for a long, dark hallway!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

This hallway is 20' by 3 1/2' and there are no windows. There are three exposed beams. It lacks light and character. Please offer up ideas! Thank you

A: Not sure about the style of your home.......so here goes.......add different shape mirrors in a collage on one side, all shapes.......round, long, square, oval.  Keep to one color frame though, silver is always nice, but white or light would be lovely.  Good wishes!

**Q: Need help 'lightening' my dining room....** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I need help with my dining room....our home is open concept, with the dining room open to both the living room and kitchen. The other rooms are light and very modern. I fell in love with the dining chairs and bought them on a trip to Denmark, but I feel like they look so dark and lost in the space. Any suggestions???

A: Add a long linear table chandelier, that way you will light up the whole room and it will be in keeping with the beautiful style that you have already created.  You could also use a line of pendants. Best of luck.
