What wood was used for this mantel.  Is it a solid beam or was it built

What to do? We want to update with possible sell in the next 10 years. Taupe walls, large white molding. Lots of wood furniture. Not many windows.  We are traditionalist but want to be updated. Lots of grands - lots of entertaining.

**Q: Stone (-ish) fireplace in bedroom. Paint or live with?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi Houzzers! I asked community advice on my living room and loved the input. Now, to the bedroom. Good news: it has a fireplace. Bad news: I hate the stone. I painted the walls day one 
so it would blend to see if I could live with it. More than a year later, I cringe a little each time.
otherwise, it's a beautiful, big room with a beautiful view. Carpet was already here when we bought house. it's in good shape and on trend - but doesn't match stone either! I did the window treatments and window seat to bring it together with carpet.
Initial thought was to rip off stone and drywall instead, replace carpet with hardwood and do a kinda rustic French with area rug and creamy linen bedding. Furniture was my husband's and I've come to like it.
Now, I can live with everything as is but that fireplace stone is tough .
so I figure cheaper next step would be to simply paint the stone creamy white and hope that's enough.
so, Houzzers, whaddya think? Main question: paint fireplace or leave it? As I learned from last experience here, I'm sure you'll have other great ideas, too. Bring it on! :)

**Q: Shower floor - corian pan or porcelain small tile** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I'm remodeling my bathroom,  contemporary to modern.  Glass encased shower with 12x24 very light grade shade porcelin tile on the wall & the rest of bath floor. Still very much undecided on what I should pick for the SHOWER floor:  what style,  color, size & material??? corian pan or tile?? Please advise. Thanks in advance.
