> Chris and his team did all the trim and specialty wood detail at our new home in the westend of Halifax. He was amazing and did exactly what we wanted, plus more. We met with him on a Sunday afternoon and showed him a picture of the interior of a home we liked, that had a fireplace with mantle and TV above, plus floating shelves and drawers on each side.
> The first mantle was much too large and after discussing with our GC, a new, smaller mantle was installed that was perfect. He also used his judgement to change from 2 drawers on each side of the fireplace to three drawers on each side, so that the drawers would not be too heavy and would be less likely to sag or fail.
> He was back after we moved in to address some small deficiencies and all were done perfectly, promptly and with a smile.
> I/we would highly recommend Chris and his team for all of your interior trim.

> Chris and his team did a great job on our new home.
> Their special touch and know how really made the trim and crown look terrific. Their direction on closest design helped add useful space to all our rooms and the master walk in looks like a million dollars

> We are a moulding retailer that has worked with CJ's on a number of projects in the past few years. His most recent project was for a complete renovation that replaced all the original (small) mouldings. The finish work inside the home was very detailed and challenging. CJ's did a great job in helping their client through the selection process and the actual finish work looks amazing. Smooth, consistent finish, no nails visible, no blemishes. Another great job by CJ's Custom Trim

> I was referred to CJ’s Custom Trim after talking to a local builder. He had nothing but the highest praise for Chris Jollimore so I was looking forward to meeting him, especially after a number of disappointing experiences with self-professed trim installers I found online. Chris is one of the most straight forward, easy going and honest guys I have met.
>
> While walking through the house and providing options, he pointed out a number of shortcuts taken by the floor installer and suggested how to best address problem areas, giving me even more confidence. When Chis’ crew was installing the trim they were very particular and the work area was kept clean and organized. I could not be happier with the end result – best decision I made in years!

> We used this company for custom trimming our entire home and the end result was amazing. Very professional and quality workmanship. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again in the future.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Trim, Trim, Trim** *(in Polls)*

Hi! We are in the middle of a house remodel. Bought the house a month ago, and didn't love the trim when we bought it, but didn't think about doing anything about it until speaking to my mother-in-law and a contractor who both say the trim has got to go. But I've had others say it would be a travesty to "downgrade" that woodwork. I'm just confused as ever and decisions have to be made fast. What do you think??? Does it date the house? Is there anyone who would be sad to see the trim go?? It is on numerous doorways (to dining room, study, family room, in kitchen and around all windows in the main family rooms. Would love to to hear any and every opinions. Set me straight!

And the outside of the house...

A: So I am from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada... and I specialize in custom trim and Moulding installations along with an amazing array of built-ins. My website is halifaxcustomtrim.com and would like to say this: your trim is to busy. You can get traditional/ornate without making it look over done. The proportion is off. I would love to help. Please check out our FB page: CJ’S Custom Trim Specialists Inc. Here you can keep up with fresh ideas etc.

**Q: HELP! White trim vs cream trim!!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am currently building a new home and chose SW Dover White cabinets with a brown glaze for the kitchen with a dark island and also for the cabinets on each side of my stone fireplace. My wall color is SW Amazing Gray and floors are medium to dark hickory. What color trim to use throughout the home? I'm torn between SW Dover White and a brighter white!!! HELP! PLEASE!

A: Cream all the way... white so over done it’s gross

**Q: Help needed with room wall space.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We purchased a new townhouse a few months back. Now working on the family/great room and trying to fill wall space over the fireplace. Having tried many paintings from our previously owned home, none seemed to look good in the room. I had been looking for a large, oversized object/painting to put on the wall over the mantle. Unfortunately, most of the items that caught my eye were well over our budget. Coming home one day, the husband proudly surprised me with a clock he found in a local thrift shop, saying he saved us a bundle. I sometimes shop thrift/consignment shops so that didn't bother me. However, while it's a large clock, (30") I felt it should be larger. Don't have the heart to tell him so nor does the store have a return policy. What do I do now? Any advice as to how to complete the mantle/wall in this family room?

A: Well i guess the bookcases got a few chatting...lol the dimensions of the room really have to be taken into consideration. The question should be is the room big enough to allow a bookcase 12" deep to come from the corner of the room to the side of a pop out that would Houzz the fireplace and would give aback drop for the mantle to sit on, while allowing the 2nd bookcase to come from the opposite side of fireplace to the corner. Then allowing two chairs to sit about 24-30 " in front of the bookcases, facing away from the built-in with maybe a nice decorative table between. However i am a Trim and Finish Expert and sometimes a room needs to start with something bold within in it and then toned down with the decorative items chosen to display on the cabinetry...Like the infamous "clock"....lol

**Q: not sure what to do to spruce up this facade here** *(in Design Dilemma)*

need to balance the roofline better, add interest to the plain front of the house. any ideas ??

A: Beauty of a house, but the color on such a large house makes it look very boring. The landscaping could help add some color and maybe change to color of the front door. Not a big fan of the exterior paneling up top....has such a yesterday feeling about it. A pop out window or two might help break up the right side that look to big and two plain.
