They did not tell me my island was not level before bringing it in. Had to make cuts myself. Now there’s a big gap between the counter and cupboards. Had to cut off the decorative pieces now they look awful. They left pieces of wood shins to level it out and it looks horrid. I asked them about it after and they pretty much told me it’s my issue to cover it and it’s not in their job description. The small piece they added to the longer piece of the quartz to connect it did not match and looks obvious it was a second piece. They chipped my roof when bringing in the island and the installers told me they didn’t do it. One of the installers was being rude to the other in front of me and my wife which made it awkward. After I paid and it was installed I never heard from them again asking how I liked it or if I was satisfied. All sorts of issues during the installation including counter damage by them and subsequent replacement. We've had a few issues since installation, all of which Stonex wanted to charge us to fix. > > Rough edges/chips in underside of countertop, especially around the sink, which constantly catch/snag and put small holes in the shirt of anybody prepping on the countertop. > > Problems with counter sections around our slide in range. The back bridge piece has a gap in it (not sure if this has somehow separated over time or we just didn't notice it when installed). 2 sections of counter on either side of slide-in range were not cut straight back to the wall. Instead, the counter pieces were notched for a wider space at the front to exactly fit our specific model of 8-year-old range. We asked about this when we originally saw the counter pieces and were told "this is what they do". Thought nothing more of it until our range recently failed and needed replacement. No other slide-in range would fit this unrequested, custom-notched profile. Call Lucy at Stonex and were told this would cost $300+ to have the counter cut straight back from these notches (like we originally wanted). Took our business elsewhere for cutting back the counter, bought and installed a new slide-in range and have now discovered that the counter section on one side of the range is not level (drops over 1/4" from the back to the front) while the section on the other side is level. So, there is no way to make our new range simultaneously align/level with the counter on both sides. When we had the granite installed, we found several issues (unresolved) that will never have us recommend or use this company again: > > 1\. The granite had been snapped in half during the installation and epoxied back together by the installers. When we called the company the same day, they first said that granite has "natural cracks" in it. Then they said it must have been cracked by our improper use after installation (i.e. it was our fault), but had no explanation for how it mysteriously got glued back together and polished. > > 2\. There were large sections in the granite that had been filled in with epoxy or plastic or something. It was a milky white color that was obviously not the natural granite and definitely not in the slab we selected in the showroom. Same as in point 1, we were told that granite has natural variations and they tried to convince us these obvious sections of filler were granite. > > 3\. The floor tiles will be a very similar beige color (image 3). We will use a dining table with 3 pendants hanging (image 4) My question is: What counter top can we use in terms of color and texture? A: If you are going with a grey toned countertop try "concrete" caesarstone , "cement" caesarstone or "stone grey" caesarstone which are quartz options. A good tip we always like to tell customers is that everything in a room should melt together and should "just fit". The backsplash shouldn't be in your face and extremely noticeable. People should love the room not an individual feature. So when trying to match the countertop, try to find a countertop that picks up on a few colours from the b/s as well as ties in the cabinetry colour. A: The two seat option is the best solution if you are set on having an IEC-- it allows family and friends to sit in on conversation/keep whoever is cooking company. Having the 4 seats is to much and will create congestion. As others have mentioned-- use the dining table for family dinners/breakfasts etc the IEC is just another option when not as many people are around, or if you are quickly eating and running. Currently, the floor is old, peeling linoleum that is freezing on the feet, and the shower is a small space with metal doors and an old insert. There is a spot for shelving beside the shower that can be redone. I do like a storage feature even though I know it makes the shower space smaller. Shower idea: -make the vanity go all the way to the wall (allows for more counter space) and add a granite or quartz countertop-- there are tons of options out there to choose from.
