Jacobson Construction has spent over 30 years creating homes that are thoughtfully planned and precisely executed, for clients who expect both.

What sets us apart is how thoroughly we manage the process. Decisions are made upfront so what gets built reflects what was planned. No surprises, no guesswork.

We handle everything. Whether you bring your own architect and designer or prefer to work directly with our in-house design team, we integrate seamlessly and take full ownership from concept through completion. One point of contact. One organized process. A finished result that reflects your vision.
Our clients consistently tell us that what they value most is knowing exactly where their project stands at every stage and that our budgets hold. That's not an accident. It's the result of a structured approach built.

> Nick was excellent to work with and followed through on delivering a dream kitchen that dramatically changed the space. The project was executed well and we had a good understanding of what to expect throughout the process. Nick was always good about following up on any questions or concerns we had through the process. Ultimately, the finished product was beautiful and it reclaimed a lot of utility in under utilized spaces on our main floor.

> Jacobson Construction helped us replace and install all new windows in our 1941 house. A big project! Rick was fantastic in getting us high quality windows with great attention to all the details that make a difference - functionality, sizing, design, finish, removal of old windows, framing and installation of new windows. This was all done in a timely manner, at a very fair price and with great communication!

**★★★★ — MN Resident, Sept. 2024**

> Receptive, high-quality work, gets the job done. Recommend highly. Rick will make sure your job is completed to completion. Recommend just being on top of communication.

**★★★★★ — Mary LaHay, March 2024**

> Wow! What an amazing experience! We just finished a remodel project with Rick and it could not have gone better. This was our first time having this kind of work done and we were apprehensive. Rick took all the scary out of it. He stayed in touch during the entire project, checking in to make sure we were happy. His subcontractors were top-notch and meticulous. We couldn't be happier with the project outcome and highly recommend Jacobson Construction.

**★★★★★ — Jason Eue, Dec. 2023**

> I hired Jacobson construction to renovate my master bathroom, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, Rick and his team were professional, skilled, and a pleasure to work with. Communications were clear and timely; project costs were detailed up front. I wouldn't hesitate to use Jacobson Construction again.

**★★★★ — Ryan, Dec. 2023**

> We hired Rick for a couple major projects on our 1940's 1.5 story house. He and his team are enjoyable and beyond capable of seemingly every task at hand, no matter how big or small. He is honest, transparent, easy to get ahold of, and just an all around good guy to know in the business. His builds are solid, high quality and he will always do the right thing. Rick is a guy you can trust.

**★★★★★ — John Walsh, Dec. 2023**

> I was fortunate enough to get Rick Jacobson’s contact information from other neighbors via The Nextdoor app. He came over the next day to look at my project and we just clicked. Rick and his excellent crew tackled my basement remodel with the sort of professionalism that I'd sorely missed in other contractors. They showed up when they said they were going to be there, addressed any and all of my concerns and kept me abreast of the progress and next steps. I've used their services since my project completed and will come continue to do so. I have that much trust in their work ethic

**★★★★★ — HU-661156853, Dec. 2023**

> Jacobson remodel are a group of professionals that take you from beginning to end with confidence. We recommend working with a team that always answers the phone.

**★★★★★ — Alexei Sacks, Dec. 2023**

> Working with Jacobson construction was a great experience. We built our house several years ago and needed to repair a false chimney that had not been properly constructed and had significant storm damage. Nick, our project manager at Jacobson, worked with us throughout the project. He kept us updated, incorporated our feedback, and explained what they were finding as they began demolition. In particular, we very appreciated that the crew looked for additional damage and gave us the option to repair it (which we did).
>
> The quality of the construction was top-notch. Jacobson Construction takes great pride in their work and covers all the details of the project meticulously. We have found our construction company for all future work at our house.

**★★★★★ — Ken Stone, Nov. 2022**

> Rick and his crews/subs were great to work with. They took pride in their work with careful attention to details. Rick made every effort to keep me informed of schedule and delivery issues. We are very happy with our new garage!

**★★★★★ — Erin, June 2022**

> This was our first major renovation project and we are very happy with the finished product. The crew was friendly, respectful, and did great work. Rick was responsive throughout the project and had a open line of communication.

**★★★★★ — Judd & Steph Peterson, Feb. 2022**

> Our remodeling project was limited to our master bath, but given the challenges, that was no small matter. It was complicated because we were still living in the adjacent bedroom, the pandemic was causing restrictions, the supply and coordination with multiple subcontractors was also difficult, and the owner (me) was a demanding architect as well. Jacobson and our interior designer worked hand in hand with us to iron out all the design details, and with a bathroom, there are a surprising number of decisions to face. Jacobson has an experienced knack for anticipating most of the design issues, for anticipating all of the scheduling and coordination issues, and for anticipating the timely procurement of materials and specialty items that impact the schedule. The demolition went very quickly, and the house and our adjacent bedroom were well protected. Jacobson has tremendous relationships with his subcontractors, and each one Jacobson brought in perfectly executed their own specialty. Again, they were extremely professional and also anticipated the issues we would encounter for their part of the installation. With Rick Jacobson's uncanny ability to secure the necessary materials and specialty items in a timely way, our remodel project finished on time and within our budget. Really remarkable workmanship, and we're thrilled with everything.

**★★★★★ — Mike Haggerty, July 2021**

> Rick was great to work with and maintains a high level of quality for all aspects of construction. Including the smallest details. His crews and subs are great and when we had questions Rick always took time to go through and discuss.

**★★★★★ — Sung Lee, Jan. 2021**

> Rick’s team completed a 2 story plus balcony addition. Rick’s team was friendly, highly skilled and easy to work with. Rick has great design ideas and is very responsive! We are very pleased with the results and have received many compliments from neighbors and family!

**★★★★★ — timcadotte, Nov. 2020**

> We purchased a condo that needed a total renovation; floors, ceilings, plumbing, cabinets and rewiring. The walls were faux painted in the 90’s and were painted to look like slick concrete and required the correct preparation. We gutted both bathrooms and the kitchen. A lot of tiling which turned out perfect.
>
> We met with 3 contractors and it was easy to decide to go with Rick. The HOA had a long list of rules to be followed for contractors. Rick took on those challenges and the relationship went well. Primarily because Rick is so amazing to work with. He’s respectful and works to build a connection with others.
>
> Rick has many good ideas and is open to you presenting your thoughts, though he may tweak it to make it even better. We met almost daily for a briefing to get any good or bad news. Even though we added many components over the course of the project, he was able to bring it in on time. He provided a weekly schedule.
>
> His crew was great, Dave, Charlie and Chaz, you’ll miss them when it’s over. They take the time to make it right. Rick is on site a lot of the time and is very picky how all work is done. The subcontractors he selected were excellent. Showed up when they were supposed to and completed impressive quality of their craft.
>
> In summary, Rick took a condo that was uninhabitable and turned it into a pleasant, welcoming place we call home. Thank you Rick.

**★★★★★ — Denise Kozojed, Dec. 2019**

> Rick Jacobson was wonderful to work with. When we decided to remodel our main floor, we needed a contractor who had the time for the job, the qualified teams for the details and the care and concern to communicate in a timely manner about issues that needed to be addressed when they arose. The kitchen, laundry, and bathrooms were the key focus, and raising the ceilings in those rooms was part of the initial unknowns. With a 1972 home, code would dictate expenses that aren't usually fun to spend. As unknowns were uncovered, Rick was professional and thorough about our options. Rick went out of his way to deliver. We all worked well together, poked fun at each other and were friends through it all. The inconvenience of the remodeling was surpassed by the results we wanted and the friendships gained. One can't say that about most remodeling.

**★★★★★ — George and Marjorie Lisovskis, Dec. 2019**

> We signed on with Jacobson Construction to completely rebuild and remodel our bathroom in a 100+-year-old unit. We are just delighted with the result. Everyone who worked on the project did precision work and took the time needed to do it right, and we were very comfortable with the workers being in our home. The plumbing, the venting and electric, the rebuild of the walls and floor, the detailed tiling, the painting, all were first-rate, and we feel we chose well when we went with an experienced, seasoned pro who knows all the ropes, including how to deal with an older building. Most of all, we are thrilled with the completely new bathroom, which looks and feels like a spa. We wanted a soaking tub and now have an oasis! We would certainly recommend Rick Jacobson and his company to anyone looking to do a high-quality build or remodel.

**★★★★★ — Kris Michel, Dec. 2019**

> Rick consistently gets a 5-star rating because he works hard at building relationships with homeowners, and he delivers high quality results. I anticipated a stressful remodeling project but found it enjoyable because Rick and his crew were collaborative, and when we encountered challenges, we worked through them. Rick suggested some architectural details that hadn't occurred to us, and those details are part of what makes the finished product - a remodeled kitchen and new powder room - so satisfying. We would definitely hire Rick again.

**★★★★★ — Suzy Ploetz, March 2019**

> I had the pleasure of working with Rick Jacobson and highly recommend him. Rick remodeled two of my bathrooms, and completed several smaller projects. Rick is professional and always returns calls and text messages within 24 hours. He is honest and keeps clients updated on progress and costs throughout the project. Rick's workmanship is very high quality., and so is that of his team. I am already in the process of hiring Rick for my next remodeling projects. Jacobson Construction is top notch!

**★★★★★ — Andrea Griffin, Jan. 2019**

> Working with Rick has been fantastic! We are on our third project together and have really enjoyed every experience. He provides extremely high quality work and transparency to schedule, timeline and expectations. He has provided creative solutions on maximizing space in some of our smaller spaces and helped bring our visions to life. We have felt very comfortable with he and his team being in and out of our home while we aren't there. It is clear he takes a lot of pride in his work and we are able to take that same pride in the projects we have had done in our home.

**★★★★★ — Ken Carney, Oct. 2018**

> We remodeled a bath and added a bedroom to our lower level. The house was originally built in 1953 so this job was not without its challenges. Rick and his team were great to work with overcoming issues and staying within budget. We are veterans of multiple projects involving several different contractors and would definitely recommend Jacobson Construction.

**★★★★★ — Robin Forbes, July 2018**

> If you are looking for a contractor that is honest, trustworthy, and efficient at time management, Rick Jacobson/Jacobson Construction is your answer. We were extremely pleased with his communications throughout the process, and loved the end product. This was particularly challenging since we were living in another state while Rick handled the project seamlessly. We would highly recommend him, and will use Rick for future opportunities!

**★★★★★ — Liz Fabry, Feb. 2018**

> Rick and his team did a wonderful job recreating our master bath into a relaxing retreat. Rick is honest, helpful, never pushy, and does a nice job communicating through every step of the project. His team arrived and worked hard every day. They were talented, professional, courteous and did a great job ensuring the job was done to to our liking. Each day the house was prepped (tarps, etc.) and cleaned up well. Rick was great to work with and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him or use him again on future projects.

**★★★★★ — mlyon7085, Dec. 2017**

> Jacobson Construction did a great job with our project. Excellent build quality, clean job site and showing up on a consistent schedule made the process enjoyable.

**★★★★★ — William Riddle, Dec. 2017**

> I hired Jacobson Construction to remodel my condo prior to my moving in. Rick was extremely helpful during the design process. He worked in close partnership with my interior designer to develop the project's design and budget. He contributed several key design ideas. Rick skillfully managed the construction process, staying within budget save for one or two of the inevitable unknowns inherent in an older building remodel. Rick's work and that of his subcontractors is first rate and I was completely satisfied with the result. I've had several people tell me I have the nicest looking unit in the building.

**★★★★★ — Alexandria R, Dec. 2017**

> Rick was the first of 10 GC's we met throughout the decision making process. We selected Rick because he was patient, knowledgable and had years of experience. We trusted him to renovate our ENTIRE home. There was not one space that he and his team didn't touch. He helped us stay close to our target budget even when surprises popped up (you never know what you are going to find when you knock down walls). He thought outside of the box to save as much money as possible. He ALWAYS answered our text messages or phone calls promptly no matter how many questions or how late. In addition, it's not often that you can say a GC's subs are a pleasure to work with. Dave, Tony, Steve, Bill are all great. Overall, we are very pleased with his work. We will be calling Rick back to help us with phase 2. Thanks again Rick!

**★★★★★ — Samantha Fredkove, Nov. 2017**

> Rick is honest, easy to work with, and an overall nice guy. I was pregnant during the renovation and him and his team did everything they could to make sure it was done before our little one arrived. Rick was easy to contact and was very attentive in answering any and all of our questions regarding the project. We are amazed at the finished product and are so happy with it. In addition to all his coordination and effort on our kitchen and family room renovation there were some small painting projects around the house that me and my husband were going to do on our own and he was more than willing to offer us advice on what to use and some simple tips and tricks. Thanks to Rick and his team for a job well done and for a beautifully completed kitchen before our family gets a little bit bigger.

**★★★★★ — Julie, Nov. 2017**

> Rick and his crew did a great job for us! Rick is very attentive, thinks outside the box, and is committed to seeing the project through. Very pleased with the final outcome!!

**★★★★★ — Mux Interior Design, Sept. 2017**

> I first contacted Rick when I was helping a design client of my own find a contractor to remodel his condo. The results were fantastic. Rick is a true professional, a great collaborator, a highly skilled and resourceful contractor. I have since referred him to other design clients knowing that he will represent the quality of work my clients expect.

**★★★★★ — Katherine Goldthwait, July 2017**

> I would happily hire Rick Jacobson again. He and his able team remodeled my old, ugly bathroom, and it is now a showpiece! Rick is honest, patient, attends to every detail, explains every step and every charge, cleans up the site daily, and is just overall a person of talent and character.

**★★★★★ — J. Hanson, Jan. 2017**

> I contacted Jacobson Construction after seeing the work he did on my neighbors kitchen, basement and exterior. My house is 60 years old and was in need of new siding, windows and doors. After a year of contemplating what I should do and contacting other companies, I chose Jacobson Construction because of Rick's experience, honesty and professionalism. He was very helpful assisting me in deciding styles and colors. I was very pleased with Rick and his team. They were considerate, pleasant to work with, mindful of my questions and concerns, and went beyond the original scope of work.

> Relationship: Client
>
> Project Date: Summer 2016
>
> Project Price: $35,000 - 40,000
>
> Our project was a kitchen remodel including:
> \- new cupboards and countertops
> \- opening up space by cutting out a part of a wall
> \- relocating appliances and updating electrical and plumbing
>
> We couldn't be more pleased with our "new" kitchen and the craftsmanship of Rick and Jacobson Construction. They truly want you to be happy with the end results and we are. Rick is honest and dependable. He offered many helpful ideas and involved us in all decisions in the project. Jacobson Construction continually modeled respect towards our home and our time. They cleaned up every night and kept us up to date with their schedule.
>
> I would give Jacobson Construction the highest recommendation possible. We will definitely use Jacobson Construction again when we remodel a bathroom.

**★★★★★ — seanmgriffin, Feb. 2016**

> We recently finished our basement which was the second project we've worked on with Rich in the past two years (we previously remodeled our kitchen in Oct 2015). Due to the quality and partnership from the kitchen project, we didn't even consider other contractors for this basement project.
>
> Our basement was unfinished and was used only for laundry and storage. Our goals for the project were to add a second bathroom, update laundry room, make a large living space, and maintain some storage space. Rick worked closely with us on the development of the plan and came up with something beyond our expectations that we couldn't be happier with.
>
> During the actual work, the team was respectful of our home and left the worksite clean every day. They also made it a point to bring us along in the process and took the time to answer any questions we had. Two thirds of our house has now been remodeled, and if we decide to do any additional work Rick will be our first, and only, call when the time comes.

**★★★★★ — camartinson, Jan. 2016**

> Project: Update and upgrade of front of home; window and door trim; repair and/or replacement of wrought iron work.
> My home is 60 years old and was in need of some minor repairs as well as an updated look. Having worked with Rick in the past on both interior and exterior projects I knew that he would help me find the 'look' that I wanted, and then ensure that it was done in a timely manner. He is the consummate professional. Not only is he creative, but his knowledge of structure and his attention to detail are superb. He always stretches my original plans with either new materials or new applications. For this project he suggested taking out the red brick, shaping the wall under the bow window added years before and using architectural stone across the front of the house. All very good ideas! And then topped it off by putting pavers on the front step.
> I am thrilled with the results and have gotten numerous positive comments from the neighbors!
> Rick is a skilled and passionate contractor. I have recommended him to many others.

**★★★★★ — dwwiller, June 2015**

> Jacobson Construction remodeled a 1970 Laundry Room into an up to date Laundry Room. There were many technical challenges associated with this seemingly straight forward project.
> Rick and his team were excellent to work with on this project. They were very respectful of our house and our time. We were kept up to date on schedule, building inspections and construction issues.

**★★★★★ — nfconstruct, Feb. 2015**

> Rick Jacobson came to us with high recommendations from an individual who expects nothing short of perfection.
>
> Rick’s project for us was to replace our very old windows. He guided us through the selection and ordering process. He and his experienced crew then showed up on time and as scheduled, going about their business efficiently installing the beautiful windows. Rick was very hands-on throughout the project and kept us advised on the status of the project. His crew was friendly, neat and very nice to have around.
>
> We love the open feeling we have with the new windows, as well as appreciating our lower heat bills. We hope this will be the first of our planned updates to our home that Jacobson Construction completes.

**★★★★★ — rhtholenmd, Jan. 2015**

> Jacobson Construction has performed the following home improvements over the 22 years we have owned our home: 4-season sun porch addition, full basement finishing, including bedroom, bar/kitchen, wine room, furnace repositioning and custom workshop, full bathroom, rec/TV room, reading nook, and 3-station study/computer room; full kitchen remodel including new appliances, custom cabinets and granite, stone floors; 3-car to 4-car heated/insulated garage with second-story private balcony; and complete re-build of our basement after water damage (failed sump pump). Last summer our battery back-up sump failed during a 3-day power outage, and Rick Jacobson and his team again rebuilt the entire basement, with even better finishes and granite replacing the old countertops in the study room. (Now I have a whole-home generator.) His work ethic is without equal, and he's honest about both time and cost. (You can go with that bid that is 10% less, but the "add" and "change" orders will kill you and eat up 10+%, so Rick staying on target and on-bid actually saves you money and headaches). He's the real deal and will continue to do all my jobs at home and in my workplace. He and his team clean up after themselves, and the actual work is superb. I'm a plastic surgeon so I sweat the small stuff, and so does Rick. There may be others that claim to be as good, but Jacobson delivers consistent and quality results you can depend on. He stands behind his work and is honest and dependable. What else can I say--call Jacobson.

> We are DYI people and try to be savvy shoppers during projects to keep budgets on track. However there are times it is wise to hire a professional and Rick Jacobson is that guy.
>
> We have hired Rick for many projects (big & small) over the past 18 years.
>
> 1\. Enlarging basement bedroom and additional storage.
> 2\. Bathroom remodel - Created beautiful tiled shower in basement to replace a small corner prefab one. Easily twice the size and a good 6 inches taller.
> 3\. Replaced all our exterior doors and windows with precision. All windows continue to open and close effortlessly years later. Rick made sure we had all the paperwork for energy efficient tax rebate.
> 4\. Enlarged kitchen doorway and relocated header out of sight in attic space with stunning results.
> 5\. His recommendations for subcontractors have been good as well. Have used same carpet installer for additional projects.
>
> No matter what size of project you are doing Rick is always professional, stays in communication, respectful of home interior, clean up and doesn't leave a job until we are satisfied. Rick has welcomed us working alongside him. We have learned so much and truly respect his skill and expertise.
>
> During our recent kitchen remodel we needed to hire a drywall crew ASAP after ours was a no show at the last minute. Got 4 estimates in 24 hours. Decided to take the bid that was $850 less than Rick. Huge mistake. When we hired Rick for finish trim it was obvious what a shoddy drywall job it was. Because of his experience Rick was able to make all the trim work look perfect. We are still stuck with a shoddy drywall job. You can always find someone to do it cheaper and you will live with that for years.

  - Description: Some projects start with a vision, and this one started with a flood, when a dishwasher leak destroyed the kitchen and cascaded into the basement, gutting two floors of a 1930s Minneapolis home. What could have been a straightforward insurance rebuild became something far more intentional, because our clients, a music producer and his family, had always wanted more from this house than it was giving them, and the loss became the opening to finally get it. That was the starting point for this project—a desire for an open layout, both structurally and visually, and a space designed for everyday cooking as well as entertaining friends and family. Rather than a cosmetic update, the project evolved into a full remodel, complemented by a beautiful, vaulted ceiling addition that…

  - Location: Minnetonka, MN

  - Description: This Minnetonka home's kitchen and living room had grown dark, closed off, and out of step with how the family actually wanted to live, so the goal from day one was a full remodel that would open up the space and allow light to carry through it. Rather than a cosmetic refresh, the project became a whole-home renovation that touched every surface of the kitchen and adjoining living room, built around a simple standard: clean, bright, and functional for real everyday use. We rebuilt the kitchen wi…

  - Location: Bloomington, MN

  - Description: These Bloomington Minnesota homeowners already loved their place, but they needed more room for storage and a dedicated hobby workspace. Their attached two-car garage had potential and just needed a smart upgrade to make it more functional, comfortable, and better aligned with the home’s original design. Our team at Jacobson Construction began by removing the old garage roof trusses and raising the roofline. This opened up enough space to create a usable attic area, which we fully insulated and…

  - Location: Edina, MN

  - Description: The best kitchen design begins with the goal of enhancing functionality. We were looking for the shortest distance from fridge to stove to sink. This is known as the “golden triangle” of kitchen design. We also wanted the food preparation process to flow in one direction: From food storage to preparation to cooking to cleaning. This allows for optimum kitchen flow because it eliminates traffic jams and keeps fresh food safer by moving from cold to warm. Result: The Ideal Kitchen It begins with a…

  - Location: St. Louis Park, MN
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: This St. Louis Park Minnesota home was built in 1938, with several remodeling updates and the addition of a four-season porch over the years. But the kitchen looked dated with its dark Oak cabinets, and the appliances were tired. So, the owners chose to transform a smaller kitchen and dining room into an amazing living/entertaining space. To open up the space the non-supporting wall that separated the kitchen and the dining room was removed. The new open design features a peninsula with seating…

  - Description: Relatives spending the weekend? Daughter moving back in? Could you use a spare bedroom for surprise visitors? Here’s an idea that can accommodate that occasional guest while maintaining your distance: Add a studio apartment above your garage. Studio apartments are often called mother-in-law apartments, perhaps because they add a degree of privacy. They have their own kitchen, living room and bath. Often they feature a Murphy bed. With appliances designed for micro homes becoming more popular it’…

  - Description: The owners of this beautiful St. Louis Park home are savvy designers, my longest-term client, and good friends. Years ago, they decided to make this house their “forever” home. They imagined how to expand their home over time to meet the needs of a growing family. My work on this home began in 2008. Our first project added a comfortable second-floor master suite with full bath. We also updated the exterior from dark brown to grey with white accents to enhance curb appeal. In 2012 we remodeled th…

  - Description: Since the pandemic more of us are working from home and loving it. Working from home can often means “repurposing.” A spare bedroom becomes a home office, and that sometimes means a less-than-comfortable place to work. Then there’s the distraction of a busy family and friendly dog just down the hall. The owners of this Minneapolis home wanted a bigger, more private place to work from home. With harsh Minnesota winters, they also needed a big garage to both cars, lawn and garden equipment and rec…

  - Description: Lake Harriet Parkway is a prestigious address in Minneapolis. The owners loved their new home but the basement needed work. They had some basement remodeling ideas including a wet bar, entertainment room, 2 new bedrooms, and a big full bath. They planned on doing a lot of entertaining, so functional space was the most basic requirement. The owners worked with Rick Jacobson once before on a kitchen remodeling project that was featured in Mpls/St.Paul magazine. So it made sense to call on Rick for…

  - Location: Edina, MN

  - Description: This project began as a home remodeling idea to use barrel vaulted ceilings for a new entry and living/family room or four-season porch and home office addition. Custom round steel ceiling frames were required to make it happen, with recessed down lights added to the curved ceiling. Curved specialty windows accented the curved ceiling. A similar style was added to the home’s entryway, which enhanced the home’s curb appeal. The four-season porch included energy-saving Low-E windows, with a large…

  - Location: Saint Louis Park, MN

  - Description: Originally this kitchen felt claustrophobic. It had a separate pantry, a breakfast nook, and a kitchen area with all the amenities crammed into a 10-by-10- foot space. Rick Jacobson did everything possible to make the existing footprint of the kitchen seem bigger and improve traffic flow, while respecting the original Tudor design and materials. The remodeling design moved plumbing, removed part of a wall to create a pass-through to the main hallway, added an island, and enlarged an archway. The…

  - Description: This beautiful home has been part of the Minneapolis Lakes neighborhood for over 125 years. But now it was time for an update. This remodeling project involved an area on the first floor that included a hallway, kitchen, bath, and lots of walls. This claustrophobic design inhibited traffic flow and made entertaining a challenge. The owners loved entertaining friends and family, and were looking for a new, big kitchen designed for food, wine, and conversation. They wanted to connect the original…

  - Description: The original kitchen in this 1990s two-story traditional home had cabinet peninsulas that made moving in and out and around the kitchen awkward. It was also “tired” with a dated design. With their first child on the way, the owners looked to Rick Jacobson for a transformation. They wanted a more open kitchen with comfortable spaces for food prep and cooking, entertaining, and raising a family. The before and after photos tell the story. The original design included two peninsulas; one with two b…

  - Description: Raising three kids in Minnesota usually means hockey. Each winter the owners of this beautiful St. Louis Park home transformed their backyard into a lighted ice rink. Their kids and all their kid’s friends loved it – you could hear their laughter way down the block. And then something went very wrong. Instead of flooding the ice rink, a broken water pipe had been flooding the basement with several inches of water. The pipe was repaired, but all the flooring and carpeting, as well as the lowest t…
