I have built numerous houses myself, so when searching for a competent general contractor I find it very difficult as my expectations are extremely high and sometimes unrealistic. Dawn and I may not have always agreed on the method but I have to say she always rose to the challenge and at times exceeded my expectations. Contemporary design is extremely difficult to do let alone do well, less is always more, there is NO molding to cover a mistake. Dawn is honest, fair, and reasonable. She has tenacity with a get the job done mentality. I would hire Dawn again, I would recommend her to my friends and family. As she pointed out the details and answered question about the vision for the project I learned how important it was to her to follow the wishes of her homeowner / client. This was a family home that needed some updates but the owners had specific ideas of how to honor the history there. At the end of everyday, after workers left for the day she swept and cleaned up around the site making it all cleared for the next day of work to begin (typical woman to clean up after the men when they leave). She held our hand throughout the project when needed and gave advise when requested; also gave suggestions when she felt we needed direction. Most importantly, she stayed within the proposed budget. I was informed at the onset of her employment that she had a reputation for coming in near or on target of projected budgets where most builders are typically 25% over projected budget at the end of the project. Dawn Matze was referred to us. We found her to be very professional, extremely knowledgeable about the building industry, a great listener, and creative with her ideas to make our home function more efficiently by giving us more useable space, especially in the kitchen area. Dawn always met us with a positive attitude and worked within our timelines and budget by providing us with a number of options from which to choose from. This job went very well and we are completely pleased with the outcome. > There are three parts of the kitchen/bathroom remodel that stand out. The first is how well the vertical extension of the bathroom vanities turned out. The job blended beautifully with the existing vanities, and with the extra overall height, provides the convenience of standing upright facing the vanity mirror. The second was the excellent advice on the granite breakfast counter design in the kitchen. “Rather than square, how about a curve so that your legs fit better and overall softens the kitchen entrance?” What a splendid idea that made a significant difference to the appearance and use of the kitchen space. The third is that all of the subcontractors were professionals and did their part correctly.
