**★★★★★ — Melanie, Dec. 2024**

> Jill's advice has been invaluable as we design our new build! We are on the opposite side of the country, but I email her pictures and questions and I FaceTime with her. Several times I have been overwhelmed and confused after looking at all of the pictures online. There are so many directions to go design-wise! But talking to Jill keeps me focused and within the guardrails of what she knows our style is. She has made suggestions that I did not think of and keeps our design from being boring and lifeless while still being our style with a little extra!! She is easy to get in touch with and very timely in her communications. I whole-heartedly recommend Jill Nelson Design Service!

> We worked with Jill on a previous partial home refresh in 2020 and were very pleased. When we became ready for the major renovation of our kitchen and master bath in late 2023 we knew we had to call her. Working with her made it all go smooth. We met, collaborating on a design plan. Her knowledge, eye for style, design, resources, and communication made her a pleasure to work with. She guided our choices for the tile, paint and flooring, helping to open up a beautifully renovated home. I couldn't imagine any of this being accomplished without her! Thank you Jill!

**Comment from Jill Nelson Design Service:**

> It was great to work with you both again, love how it all came out!

**★★★★★ — Donna J, March 2022**

> Jill Nelson delivered a definite 5 star design experience. Not only did she provide amazing Interior Design service, she also recommended a construction team that successfully executed her resulting designs. Jill was involved with the Design from start to finish, including interfacing with the construction team to make sure all needed materials were procured and delivered in time to meet the installation schedule. This was similar to a HGTV experience -- LOVED IT!
>
> We hired Jill in September 2021 to design our remodel - Master bedroom, Master Bath, Living room, Formal Dining room, Breakfast nook, Kitchen, and converting an old fashion Bar into a Coffee/beverage Bar. Ms Nelson was able to push us out of our outdated box and explore what's New in today's market. She provided many fresh ideas and made the remodeling experience a wonderful adventure. Her knowledge of colors and the many new products available resulted in a successful remodel of our home.

> I didn't know where to begin with my kitchen remodel. My kitchen is small, but Jill came up with design ideas that gave me both more counter and cabinet space, and pulled my kitchen and family room together. She helped me with all the decisions, cabinets, appliances, countertops, backsplash, flooring, lighting, everything! Her eye for style and color amazed me. She took the time to understand my style, but nudged me out of my comfort zone and the results are spectacular! I couldn't be more pleased. Thank you Jill!

**Comment from Jill Nelson Design Service:**

> Thanks, Liz. Yes, your small kitchen made quite the transformation! It was fun working with you and seeing your design style grow.

**★★★★★ — gwackamoley, Dec. 2020**

> We hired Jill in September 2020 for our Living Room, Hall, Hall Bath, and Laundry Room renovation. We had a general sense of what we wanted but Jill helped us figure out all the details. She helped us to find our style, colors, balance, and contractor team to make it all happen. She asked questions, listened, brought forth ideas and things to consider, and helped move us along in our decisions. We couldn't have done it with out her! We definitely will call her back for upcoming renovations. Thank you Jill!

**★★★★★ — Jack Fleischli, Dec. 2019**

> I found Jill Nelson on Houzz. This turned out to be my LUCKY BREAK since she has fantastic instincts and design ideas. We initially met to discuss design parameters and my general vision for furnishing and designing the interior of my new home. This was without charge. I was impressed with her professionalism and background immediately. Once I hired her (she works on an hourly basis) she led me a variety of interesting options, gave me advise and allowed me to make my own decisions. Jill is cordial, smart, well-informed and highly creative. The results were remarkable and the charges very reasonable.

**Comment from Jill Nelson Design Service:**

> Thanks Jack, I enjoyed working with you as well. After living in the desert for years I finally have a client who wanted to do Southwest style!

**★★★★★ — Mel Asher, July 2019**

> When I called Jill and asked if she could give me a few ideas for updating my kitchen, she had a vision immediately upon walking in. She also carried that vision into a few more rooms of my home and created the look I've always wanted. She was spot-on!!! I would highly recommend Jill. She is very personable and fantastic to work with. Thank you Jill!!!!

**Comment from Jill Nelson Design Service:**

> I love working with fun people and Mel is definitely one of those. She was a little tentative with the process at first but once a few meeting went by she was all in and I was able to pull together her great room to be reflection of her.

**★★★★★ — Diana Suttles, July 2019**

> Jill is fantastic! She has a great eye, is easy to work with and most of all, gets things done! She learned my taste and what I was looking for and went out and shopped for accessories that made my home look beautiful. I am so happy with the end result and have Jill to thank for it! Highly recommend.

**Comment from Jill Nelson Design Service:**

> Thanks Diana. That mega shopping trip for accessories and decor at HomeGoods was fun, four+ shopping carts later!

**★★★★★ — Marcus Bohler Construction & Painting Company, Dec. 2018**

> We do a lot of bath and kitchen remodels. When we work with Jill things just look more well put together. Jill is always timely and communicative. Our recent mutual client was undecided on quite a few things and Jill did what she does and worked it out and the client is extremely pleased with the outcome. We definitely look forward to working with Jill again.

**★★★★★ — Cindy Rentchler, Dec. 2018**

> Jill was wonderful to work with. She presented useful and practical ideas, as well as keeping an eye on the budget. My kitchen & master bath project looks beautiful. Her input kept me on track to achieve the desired result for my home. I'm looking forward to working with her again. She saved me a great deal more than her fee. I would recommend her without hesitation.

**★★★★★ — Robin Jai, Dec. 2018**

> Prior to meeting and hiring Jill, I knew nothing about the difference between Ecclectic and Contemporary and what furniture went together with what art work....however, after connecting with Jill, not only has she taken my vision.... of course with a lot of necessary editing (no shade)...and turned my house into a beautiful, yet functioning home...I'm so pleased with it...and everyone that I've allowed into my home, find themselves picking their faces up off of the floor because of how beautifully things are coming together. Jill's knowledge, skill and personable demeanor makes not only for a great designer but also a great person to be around and work with...thank you Jill.

**Comment from Jill Nelson Design Service:**

> Robin was a lot of fun to work with. We connected quickly in regards to style and design direction. She was very open minded and said yes to almost everything I suggested. Her bedroom we did is just amazing, it's one my favorite rooms ever.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Tempest Black Quartzite - counter and backsplash??** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello Houzz Friends,
We are redoing our kitchen. We were out today looking at slabs for counters. We found this slab - which we both like - Leathered Tempest Black Quartzite. We put a deposit down on the slabs.

I had originally thought I would like to do a slab backsplash - and I was looking a dolomite or marble - something white background with minimal grey veining.

The stone place helped us look at options but we didn't find anything that really made us fall in love for backsplash choice.

But they also said they recommend we use the Tempest Black quartzite for the backsplash as well.

I'm a little unsure. And I thought I could easily come home and look up photos on Houzz and find pictures of a kitchen done with this quartzite but it is proving quite difficult. I can't find photos - it may be a naming thing. But I don't see other quartzites with similar look that have a different name.

Here is the slab (we've paid a deposit on 2 slabs).

The cupboards will be BM Chantilly Lace.

Stainless steel appliances.

We have a south facing large bay window in the kitchen so we get lots of light.

Friends, would you wrap this quartzite up onto the backsplash? Or would you recommend a tile backsplash. Because of the window, we have very little backsplash area.

Here is a chatgpt mockup picture using my current kitchen. My current cupboards are cherry wood and we have ugly spotty granite.

I'm just not sure about using the stone as backsplash as well.

Please share your opinion and even better if you have used this stone - could you share pictures of what you used for backsplash - did you use the same as backsplash or did you choose a tile?

thank you in advance.

A: I would opt for a tile backsplash. The quartzite is very dark, heavy. Your cabinets are light, bright. A tile backsplash could be a nice transition between the two.

**Q: Rendering selection** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am exhausted and overwhelmed from a bathroom remodel that has gone on for 6 months. I have had renderings made because we dont know the best location for 2 large matarazzo dolomite slabs purchased originally for a drop in tub. We scratched that because it looked horrible once framed out and my husband did not fit comfortably in the tub. im looking for recommendetions on the best rendering for the marble placement. My ceilings are 12 feet high. the room is only about 10 feet wide. Please help!

A: I prefer \#1, then \#3.

**Q: backsplash help** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am still stuck what to do for backsplash. We have Calacutta Sands quartz. I got these few samples. I have all stainless steel appliances just have not installed them yet. I am also stuck at what to do to the right of the cabinet. The shelf is coming down. Do I put a long shelf or a few? It’s very unfinished and I am lost.

A: Nice kitchen so far, love the color palette. Of the tile samples shown I would use the square white for the backsplash. As far as the shelf goes, it looks out of place. Ideally a double cabinet should go there. You’re almost finished , nice job.

**Q: What's a great granite color for my kitchen with dark oak cabinets?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Please help me find the perfect granite color for my kitchen remodel. The cabinets are dark oak and the tile floors are white with hunter green accents. Suggestions for the backsplash are also appreciated.

A: Your cabinets look well made and in good condition but… It looks like it’s been a long time since the kitchen has been updated. My experience has been when you update one feature it only draws attention to how the rest of the area is older and outdated. You’ve opened Pandora’s box. Remodeling is very expensive and a big deal but worth it in the long run. I would wait, budget for a more complete remodel complete remodel.

**Q: Are these too much directly across from one another? Very small room.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

A: I like both rooms but they look like two different houses. One is dark, moody, traditional, the other is light, bright and airy like a beach house.

**Q: Help with decision between option A or option B** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We're currently torn on whether to go with option A or B! We’re in the framing stage now and the area between the vanity and tub feels a little crammed when we walked through it. We could make this space bigger but it takes away from the closet. With a 30" tub, we would have between 44-46" of clearance from vanity to tub. With option B, that clearance increases closer to 70". Seeing if anyone has any recommendations. Go with the roomier bathroom or go with the bigger closet???Likely need to make a decision on Monday.

A: Plan B
