BACKGROUND
Scott Formby’s talents in interior design became recognized through a career that began with a part-time position in the home design division at Ralph Lauren while studying at Parson’s School of Design. Although his career took an early detour into fashion design—as Creative Director and Designer at some of the most iconic Brands in American fashion (including Ralph Lauren, J. CREW and Geoffrey Beene) — he eventually returned to interior/home design as the Global Creative Director of Frette.

It was at the iconic home-textile manufacturer that Scott was able to design and consult on residences world-wide, design for Frette in Milan and New York City, and participate in two seminal designer show houses in New York City. His work at Frette also included designing in the hospitality sector—working closely with world-class hotels developing textiles and products for each property. Clients included Ritz-Carlton, Rosewood Hotels and Resorts, Soho House, Surf Lodge and Kimpton Hotels.

PHILOSOPHY
Scott Formby Design, based in Los Angeles and New York City, pursues a creative and personal approach for both residential and commercial properties. Scott draws on his studies (with degrees from both Parson’s and Brown University) in history and culture as well as art and design for projects. Inspiration starts with color, texture, pattern and the artisanal influences of different world cultures. These romantic and historic influences are counter-balanced with mid-century modern elements and current design trends. A passion for nature, pattern mixing, and artisanal rugs always play prominently into the final design. The result is an environment that invites exploration and curiosity.

- [Timeless in the Village](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/timeless-in-the-village-pj-vj~6833279)
  - Location: New York, NY

  - Description: A historic stable located in the heart of Greenwich Village houses this sprawling apartment that originally had glowing pink walls and 1970’s globe lights in its living areas. The apartment was transformed with a mix of mid-century modern pieces such as Roger Capron tables, Noguchi lights, and a Bruno Mathsson chaise layered with more traditional touches from a George Smith couch and brown mohair draperies. The result is a very unique and personal apartment that is truly timeless, elegant, and c…

  - Description: The incredible bones of this beach house—designed by the iconic 1960’s architects Barbara and Julian Neski—provided a clear jumping-off point in the design of its interiors. Modern at its core, the mission was to keep the clean lines of the home but warm the interiors so not feel as cold as a Hampton’s winter. Walls were painted a clear shade of white---but vintage rugs, art by Helen Frankenthaler, tapestries by Alexander Calder, and leather vintage Knoll couches warmed the interiors. Wallpaper…
- [Glamour in the Hills](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/glamour-in-the-hills-pj-vj~6833249)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA

  - Description: This iconic Spanish Colonial stunner has been home to both a silent film star and a legendary rock music star. It was in dire need of a creative eye----caught in a time warp spanning 1924 to 1979. Old Hollywood glamour, Italian modernism, and a focus on artisanal touches served as a jumping-off point for this project which included the complete gutting and redesign of 5 bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room, and the separate attached recording studio.
- [Serenity in the Hamptons](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/serenity-in-the-hamptons-pj-vj~6833228)

  - Description: This 1800’s farmhouse in Southampton came to life as a Designer Showhouse displaying the work of a selected group of designers from across the US. Coco Chanel served as an inspiration to this very intimate study/living area and adjoining bath. Boucle draperies, chinoiserie, tweeds, mirrored surfaces, and a focus on the artist as inspiration were all touchpoints in this special room that proved that bigger isn’t always better.
