> I hired lyndale glass to replace my front door. Every one I talked with was very friendly and the guy that installed the door did a very good job. I would definitely use them again.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Add basement egress in bedroom area or main area** *(in Windows)*

Our basement has two little window, one in the bedroom and on in the living room. We want to enlarge one so there is nore light, should we enlage the bedroom window or the main livingroom /playroom area?

A: I agree with millworkman. If you have to choose between one or the other, definitely enlarge the bedroom window to meet egress so it can be a legal bedroom (better for both resale and just general safety)

**Q: Restarting tub-to-shower conversion, questions about glass enclosure** *(in Bathrooms)*

So we had to stop all our project plans for a few months and are now starting again.

In an upstairs bathroom, the toilet and shower are in one room and sink is actually in the bedroom, hotel style. We want to change the tub/shower to just a shower. I was struggling with what to do about the glass enclosure. It's so cramped in there that there really is no room for a door to swing. Would a partial glass wall, leaving one end open, work best? Contractor said he would water proof the floor.

Like this?

A: You could do a swinging door that opens both inward and outward. For code/safety purposes it has to be able to swing outwards as well, but when you're using it, there should be room for an inward swing. You can do the swinging door without a pony wall. Otherwise, there are several options of sliding shower doors if you would prefer a true enclosure as opposed to an open panel style.

**Q: Help with powder room!** *(in Paint)*

Looking for advice on paint color for a small, windowless powder room. It was previously wallpapered and I uncovered bright blue paint underneath! Any BM suggestions? Was initially thinking Edgecomb Gray, but I’m not sure if it will work with the brown floor tile. Thanks in advance!

A: Edgecomb Gray does have some nice brownish undertones to it. I would definitely classify it as more of a "greige" than a true gray and think it will look nice with your current flooring.

**Q: Different window and door heights for 10ft ceiling** *(in Building a Home)*

If ceiling height is set at 10ft, would interior doors at 7ft and window tops at 8ft look weird?
I dont want interior doors too high at 8ft but dont want windows too low at 7ft. So ultimately the head height wont match. I dont want to use transoms inside either (only on the bathroom as no windows).
The exterior patio doors will be at 8ft to match windows (all exterior doors will be matching black, interior doors white)
The main entrance will be 7ft with side windows plus transom to 8ft or arched transom window beyond 8ft. 2nd question is would the arch look weird being heigher than the other 8ft tops of windows?
Any advice would be much appreaciated! Have been searching forums but would like some opinions on this specific situation. Thanks!

A: Your interior doors do not have to be the same height as your windows. As several others mentioned, interior doors typically do not share a wall with any windows, so it won't look awkward if they're not the exact same height.

**Q: Champagne gold or oil rubbed bronze hardware? Or neither?** *(in Polls)*

Choosing between champagne gold and oil rubbed bronze hardware for this bathroom. Oil rubbed bronze would almost blend in with the dark wood I think, which could be good. Not sure how the gold would look. I don't want it to be too matchy matchy. The shower head will also be champagne gold, but behind a shower curtain. The mirror has both finishes.

A: The champagne gold would look really nice against the dark cabinet. It adds a nice, classy contrast.

**Q: cleaning mirrors** *(in Cleaning Tips)*

I have a terrible time cleaning mirrors. I get streaks and also lint on them. I have tried windex with paper towels and also damp microfibre cloths. I read an old post where they suggested using Super Cloths but have not been able to find these. What do you use?

A: Our company uses Sprayway on all of our mirrors and mirror installations. It can be used with a disposable paper towel or microfiber cloth if you prefer. Sprayway is not the same thing as liquid glass. Liquid glass is more of a coating, not a cleaner.
