Same founder. Same ground. A deeper understanding of both with every year. We design the land around the house as a complete composition — the arrival, gardens, trees, stone, water, lighting, irrigation, drainage, and the quiet spaces in between. Nothing is treated as an afterthought. Everything has a reason for being there, and everything has to work together. Because a great landscape isn't simply something beautiful to look at. It should change the way it feels to come home. Our work begins with the property itself. We study the architecture, the way people move through the space, what should be revealed and what should disappear, where the eye naturally travels, how the property feels after dark, and — especially in Houston — where the water wants to go We have spent more than two decades working in Gulf Coast clay, heat, humidity, violent rain, mild wet winters, hurricanes, droughts, and summers that expose every shortcut eventually. A landscape designed without understanding those conditions may photograph beautifully the day it is finished and begin failing a few years later. We design for year ten, not just day one. And we build the same way. Scapes is built around specialists rather than generalists. The mason setting your stone has spent years setting stone. The people responsible for irrigation understand water. The people working with plants understand plants. Lighting is composed as lighting, not added at the end because someone remembered the house should look good at night. That specialization shows up in details most people may never consciously notice — a stone joint that stays aligned, a grade that continues to drain, a tree given enough room to become magnificent, a light placed where you see the canopy instead of the fixture. Those details become the difference between a landscape that was installed and one that was built. Our projects can begin with a single courtyard, garden, or an arrival zone and extend to the complete property — from the first view through the gates to the last quiet space in the back retreat. And when construction is finished, our relationship with the property does not have to be. Scapes can continue to steward what we create on a scheduled basis, because landscapes are alive. They mature, compete, respond, and change. Properly cared for, the property becomes richer with time and slowly grows into the ### Services Provided - Landscape Design - Garden Design - Hardscaping - Landscape Plans - Patio Design - Site Planning - Drought Tolerant Landscaping - Custom Fire Pits - Pool Landscaping - Custom Water Features - Landscape Construction - Landscape Maintenance - Outdoor Fireplace Construction - Outdoor Kitchen Construction - Outdoor Lighting Installation - Pergola Construction - Retaining Wall Construction - Sod Installation ### Areas Served - Houston - Kingwood - The Woodlands - Conroe - Atascocita - Galveston - Porter - New Caney - Humble - West University Place - Tomball - River Oaks - Magnolia - Woodbranch - Montgomery - Porter Heights ### Typical Job Cost $8,000 - 75,000 Range covers design through install. No complaints here. **★★★★★ — Jeffery Thorpe, Oct. 2026** > I thought our grass needed more water. Apparently I had been making the problem worse. They changed a few things and it looks better than it has in years. **★★★★★ — Richard Thomas, Oct. 2026** > The stone guys impressed me. I'm the kind of person who watches construction and probably asks too many questions. They spent more time getting everything underneath right before laying the stone than the last company spent installing our old patio. You can tell they take the stuff you don't see seriously. **Comment from Scapes Environmental Design, Inc.:** > Thanks Richard. Your flagstone patio is art. It will still be here a 100 years from now. Thank you (and your bride) for the business. **★★★★★ — Donald mccracken, Sept. 2026** > Our neighbor across the street finally walked over and asked who does our yard. My WIFE has been talking about it all week. **Comment from Scapes Environmental Design, Inc.:** > Thanks Donald, What a great front yard you have (now). Lets get to the back soon! **★★★★★ — Jose Maki, Sept. 2026** > One company and one phone call. That's honestly why we stay with Scapes. I was tired of having a yard guy, sprinkler guy, lighting guy and somebody else for stone, with none of them talking to each other. Scapes knows the whole property. **Comment from Scapes Environmental Design, Inc.:** > Thank you for trusting us with your property Mr. Maki, always a pleasure to work with great clients that give us the room to do what we do best. **★★★★★ — William Samuels, Sept. 2026** > I waited three years to write this because every landscape looks good when it's brand new. Ours looks better today. The trees have grown in, the beds are full without being crowded and everything feels established. That's probably the biggest compliment I can give them. **Comment from Scapes Environmental Design, Inc.:** > Thanks Will, we love seeing your landscape mature and grow.Your neighbors are so jealous. **★★★★★ — Dwight Matthews, Sept. 2026** > Our sprinkler system had been driving me crazy for YEARS. Wet driveway, dry spots, one bed soaked, another one dying. They went through the whole system instead of changing two sprinkler heads and leaving. Best thing I can say is I don't think about my sprinklers anymore. **Comment from Scapes Environmental Design, Inc.:** > Texas heat is no joke. We have that massive system under control. Using less water and acomplishing more. Thank you for your business! **★★★★★ — Joshua Curtis, Sept. 2026** > I thought the landscape lighting was mostly something my husband wanted. I was wrong. It might be my favorite part of the whole project. When those lights come on at night the backyard is completely different. **Comment from Scapes Environmental Design, Inc.:** > Thanks Joshua, I hope you guys enjoy most chill back yard inside the loop. Great job by all. **★★★★★ — Gary Garner, Sept. 2026** > We've built and remodeled enough homes to know the difference between a contractor completing a scope of work and someone genuinely caring about the finished result. Scapes cared. They challenged a few of our ideas, obsessed over details we probably would never have noticed, and stayed involved after the project was finished. There are cheaper ways to landscape a house. If you're looking for someone to help create and care for the entire property, Scapes is in a different category.” **Comment from Scapes Environmental Design, Inc.:** > Thank you Gary. We planned for years to get to the final project. Thank you for giving us the latitude to create something special for you and your family. **★★★★★ — Mary Garza, Aug. 2026** > Scapes transformed our back yard and we are still enjoying it today. We wanted an outdoor area that was comfortable, welcoming and not too designed; they get that immediately. The hardscape, plants, lighting and outdoor living spaces were integrated together better than expected. The detail that struck us was what impressed us. They were not in a hurry and ensured that all the work was done correctly. We've finally really made our home feel complete and get out more. **Comment from Scapes Environmental Design, Inc.:** > Thank you Mrs. Mary, your courtyard is magical. Thank you for your business. ## Selected projects - [Scapes Work](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/scapes-work-pj-vj~7907518) - Location: Not specified - Photos: 57 [See all 1 project](https://www.houzz.com/professionals/landscape-architects-and-landscape-designers/scapes-environmental-design-inc-pfvwus-pf~601158222) --- *Source: Houzz professional profile.
