During the survey, I expressed that I wasn't certain about the extent of wood replacement required, but I wanted all the rotten wood to be replaced and the deck to be stained. > > Devin later stated that 18 pieces of wood needed replacement, and I agreed to move forward with the project. However, on the day of the work, I was shocked when Riley, the project in-charge, informed me that they had only accounted for 11 pieces in the quote. He claimed that they found an additional 16 pieces of rotten wood that required replacement. > > This inconsistency in the initial quote raised concerns for me. It made me question whether Bear Mountain Painting has a lack of accurate estimations or if they intentionally provide lower quotes initially to lure customers in, only to charge more later on. > > When I reached out to Zach for clarification and resolution, I felt that my concerns were not adequately addressed, leaving me feeling frustrated with the overall experience. This Client also became extremely upset and cursed at our employees when told there was additional rotted wood found after the 2nd inspection. Our Sales Consultants find more rotted wood than competing companies - however they are only able to quote rotted wood that they are able to identify from the ground level. Our crews then do a secondary inspection once the job starts to ensure that Clients have the opportunity to replace rotted wood unseen – this is completely optional. We are a straightforward company and to be accused of "bait-and-switch" tactics is insulting to say the least. Ultimately this Client refused to replace the additional rotted wood and we completed what was contractually agreed upon. We feel that we are not a good fit for this Client, but we sincerely wish them the best of luck with their future projects. **★★ — HU-913169030, July 2022** > BMCP was referred to us by a friend and neighbor. We called them to provide us with a proposal to paint the exterior of our house. > They sent a very knowledgeable and polite sales person. > He worked on building a rapport and showed pictures of his family etc. we were keen to get into the project scope and process etc > > As promised we received our detailed cost proposal within a couple of days. A short call later to answer questions and we gave them the go ahead. > > The proposal process kicked into high gear and we were sent automatic docs to sign. Lots of legal and contractual content to work through. Bit daunting. We were required to complete our color requirements with names and code description etc we completed more documents and counter Signed and verified. Seemed like Document overload. > > A suitable start time was agreed upon and after 2 re schedules we started the project. We we were introduced to our p m and encouraged to contact him with questions etc > We were then introduced to 2 more pms and a project coordinator. Over kill and confusion Lead person headed up the on site 3 person team. > > We were not given a briefing on the project process.and had 3 or 4 contacts to communicate with. > There was a communication challenge within the project team. Lots of re verifying colors and paint types and quantities. > > As the project neared the end the end date moved out > > The team lead had to attend an offsite. Appointment and the completion date moved out another day. I requested a rreplacement resource but was told. “We don’t. Bear Mountain Custom Painting performed a complete (ceilings, trim, walls, doors) interior job for us in June of 2020. (Our home was 6 years old at the time.) We were dissatisfied with the company’s workmanship that was, in our opinion, of very poor quality. Upon contacting the owner, he immediately blamed the issues on the house settling prior to even viewing the issues. When he actually did visit our home several weeks later, he again stated that any issues were due to the house settling. When inquiring about his 36-month workmanship warranty, he claimed that he determined the workmanship was of good quality and we had waited too long to contact the company. > > We filed a BBB complaint which was answered with many contradictions. The BBB complaint was considered “resolved” simply because the owner responded to our complaint. We had no recourse but to file in civil court to try to recoup some of our losses. > > We won our case in civil court. The owner immediately appealed to state court. We reached out to the owner with an attempt to settle prior to state court with no success. We had no recourse but to hire an attorney to represent us in state court and are awaiting a trial date. Pictures have been shared with the owner via email and then again in civil court. The attached pictures are just a few among many and speak for themselves. **Comment from Bear Mountain Custom Painting:** > The client contacted us in late January - at this point the contract had been completed 7 months ago. The customer talked with 3 people in our offices including the company president. We were honestly surprised at the call. The call was not about a potential warranty issue, but she said we did "a horrible job". The Senior Field Coordinator and President patiently listened to her concerns and agreed to come out and look at her issues. There was no mention of anything not being covered by warranty on the part of BMCP as the customer claimed. > We scheduled a meeting time (within 10 days of her call) and both the Senior Field Coordinator and the President visited with both customers. We were there for about 60 minutes. We looked over their concerns - primarily cracks along the cabinet / wall interface and cracks along the crown molding / ceiling interface. Regarding the cracks, there were quite large - we estimated some of the cracks were more than 1/8 inch wide. We tried to explain these were probably due to building movement, and that an acrylic caulk would not successful bridge such a large crack appearing. They just would not accept that. They claimed that there were no cracks before we painted. We said that we were perplexed that anything we would have done in painting would cause these large cracks to appear. > They then pointed to areas that were painted that they said they were not satisfied with - 9 months after completion. We noted that many these small areas may have had imperfections before we painted. > We also confirmed that all materials specified in the detailed signed contract were used on the project. They are the standard premium products that we have used in the past 15 years. > We determined that there were no issued that were covered by our workmanship warranty. The customer insistence was that we repaint the entire house. We told them that we could not agree with that and it did not seem reasonable. After that they accused us of making excuses and asked us to leave. They used the term "I wasn't born yesterday" at least 5 times. > Subsequently, the company president sent an email to the customer stating that although these issues were not covered by warranty that we would have worked with them on specific issues but they insisted on a complete repaint and were frankly very uncooperative. It is often our practice to do this out of a spirit o customer service. We received no answer to my email, but instead we saw this complaint with the BBB. > Please keep in mind that we completed everything on the contract using the specified materials. We received full payment and compliments on the job at the time. Seven months later, they had a complaint about the quality of the work. **★ — HU-632445546, July 2021** > I hired Bear Mountain in November of 2020 to install 8 doors and put in about 8 feet of shiplap. They ended up installing mismatched doors b/c they weren't able to find matching doors for my project which they thought was acceptable. They thought I wouldn't notice but I did. I insisted that all of the doors be the same and when the owner couldn't produce them he insisted on full payment of the contract. I refused to pay the the full amount for work that was not completed. I gave him 6 months and the job was still incomplete. He never installed the corrected doors, or all of the door knobs and paint. I sold my house in July 2021 and found out that he put A LIEN on my house for the full amount plus late fees even though I have communications with him that the job is not complete so I had to pay him in order to sell my house. This is who you're dealing with folks. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. Do yourself a favor. There are lots of other moral contractors out there. **Comment from Bear Mountain Custom Painting:** > This client essentially cancelled the remaining work which was installing some doors that were then found out to be discontinued (out of our control). We offered several alternatives that were basically an upgrade which the client refused due to minor differences. After extensive searching, we located 2 of the discontinued doors in another state, and drove 8 hours roundtrip to get them for this project. After we had successfully picked up the doors, the client became very unavailable during the scheduling process. After many scheduling attempts, the client then stated the doors were no longer wanted due to selling the home then shorted us the payment. Ultimately, after we were unsuccessful resolving this matter with the client directly, we executed our contract to collect payment due. We wish this client the best of luck moving forward with future home improvement projects. **★ — HU-260790602, Aug. 2019** > Update: after 6 mths trying to get them to stand behind work. we have had several painters come price to fix all the damage. They all said it was a bad paint job. I was told that they didnt use right paint and that they didnt seal all over just in spots. siding on backwards and rot everywhere. also they said it barely had one cot bc all over house you can see the original color. I have tried every way to get them to stand behind the work bc now a yr later I am paying another 7000 to fix it all. I was called malicious by Rob the owner bc I want them to stand behind work. I dont care if your nice or mean. He will not stand behind his work or warranty. Come to find out the warranty can be voided on whatever he wants to use. I would stay far away from this company. I was referred to them by family. I was excited to get my house done. We told the it was a foreclosure when we got it and would need alot of work. Paid for 2 coats on base and trim. Right away the crew they sent didnt seem like they knew what was going on. First day, 3 people and after that 1 person. They were missing spots and after supposedly two coats, you could see the original color on the side thru the new color. Contacted the company, they said no we have done 2 coats but after I showed them where you could see the original color that were like fine we will so 3. I was home the whole time and knew only 1 coat was done the first time. They tried to say they painted windows twice but wood was showing thru plus was home and know it was only once. They finally agreed to do again. But I refused the first crew coming and asked for another. I constantly asked for the wood around the chimney to be replaced even offered to go buy them. They said they were not rotted just rough and didnt need to be replaced. over and over again. Not even a full yr after, I have a leak due to chimney trim boards not be chalked right and bad. But of course I sent a email asking for them to stand by there work and pay for repair and they now but the blame on me which happened alot. I was 7 mths pregnant dealing with that headache. Now I will have to pay 1000s to fix what they should have. Please be aware and if you do hire them be there to supervise **Comment from Bear Mountain Custom Painting:** > Hello, Nicole. Upon completion I had to redo drips on the painting and had to repaint all the baseboards when I got new carpet and found that only half was painted. I had several multi story rooms painted including the ceilings, sheet rock repairs, deck repairs and frames built for the large mirrors in my master bathroom. Also had exterior pressure washing, gutter cleaning and leveling, exterior painting and stucco repair. Everything was done top notch. Jeffry repaired a hole in the kitchen ceiling from a leak that you would not be able to locate today. He also built the frames for the mirrors having never done it before. He did a beautiful job with the cleanest mitered corners. He really takes pride in his work and is an asset to the company and ensures the work done by those in his crew is also nicely done. They aren't the least expensive painters around, but you will end each day with a tidy home and will have peace of mind that everything will be completed to your satisfaction. Thank you. A: I’m stumped! We have shared many pictures of our work over the past 11 years – I can't recall what job this specific image came from so we could look up the color. However, there is good news! We can match any color. If you like this color, you can take the picture to Sherwin Williams, PPG/Porter, or any Lowes or Home Depot for a color match. Color matching technology at paint stores has come a long way and can be very accurate. That way, you can ensure you are getting the exact color that you want.
