> APG overpromised and underdelivered on our whole house renovation in 2015/2016. They poorly managed the project, took significantly longer than promised and even still left the job incomplete. Many items, including structural and electrical required expensive rework by a different contractor we had hire to pass code.

> My husband and I contacted APG Alternatives in May 2016 to build a deck and fence for our townhouse. We were told construction would take around seven days. After a couple days of construction the contractor told us that he did not order enough wood to build the deck so their was a delay in building, and an additional cost to buy the materials. A significant amount of loose nails, screws, staples and trash began piling up in my backyard, as well. Understanding that my backyard was a construction sight I assumed that the materials and trash would be cleaned up after the job was complete. After 3 weeks of construction, the deck and fence were built with average quality (some unaligned boards and nails that are popping out, but overall sturdy), but there were a few thing left unfinished. The builders left a nail on a string hammered into the gate instead of installing the gate latch and there were several large pieces of wood, nails and screws left sporadically over the yard and on the deck itself. When the contractor came to pick up the final payment he made it very clear that he would clean up the left over supplies and wood, and he we would have a gate latch installed within the week. When he left he put some materials in his truck but did not return for the remaining wood, nails and screws. When we contacted him he told us several times that someone was coming out to get the materials and to fix the gate latch, but no one came. It is the end of July and now he has just stopped responding to emails/texts. I am very disappointed that the job was left incomplete. Unfortunately, I have not been able to take my puppy into the back yard because although I have cleaned up the nails and screws, I worry there are nails and screws still lurking. We payed around $12,000 for the deck and fence together. When doing research on contractors this price seemed pretty standard. I would not recommend this contractor. There are several other contractors in the fairfax area that will give you a similar price, and will almost certainly be more responsive than APG.

> My job was a top-to-bottom renovation. After 17 years of kids, teenagers and their friends, several pets, and other normal wear and tear, my house was past due for a "face lift."
>
> I had all the flooring replaced: Berber carpet upstairs; hardwood throughout the main level; and tile in the basement.
>
> The entire house was painted: Color-coordinated soft earth tones, with bright white trim and white ceilings; crown molding in every room (bright white); wall plates replaced with bright white and integrated usb ports; also ran CAT-6 to all rooms.
>
> Kitchen and 4 bathrooms: Total renovation. New cabinets; new tile work; brushed nickel hardware; new lighting; new sinks and receptacles; new appliances; new tub/shower; etc.
>
> 13 Windows: Replaced original aluminum framed with vinyl double-hung low-e. (Got a tax break for doing this); Also had exterior trim wrapped so it wouldn't have to get painted any more.
>
> Water supply: Replaced all the old grey water lines, and got a tankless system.
>
> Garage door: Replace the original wooden one with a vinyl one, and upgraded the old garage door opener with a very quiet one.
>
> The company was very professional, and kept me well informed. They were honest about several cost savings options, and also where upgrades would increase my overall home value. I would definitely hire the crew that did most of the work (there were also a few guys only saw once or twice, so I wouldn't be comfortable rating them).
