I’m Suzanne Rugg, a full-service residential interior designer located in Scottsdale, Arizona. I believe a well-designed home should feel as good as it looks: comfortable, refined, and deeply personal.

For 20 years, I’ve been creating interiors that bring warmth to modern living. I combine natural materials, timeless elements, and thoughtful layers to design spaces that reflect the people who live in them. My studio is based in North Scottsdale, and I work with homeowners, builders, and architects across Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Desert Mountain, Arcadia, and the surrounding communities.

My path into interior design began with a degree in Fine Arts and Design from San Diego State University. I later expanded my education with certifications in Interior Design and architectural drafting, giving me the foundation to approach each space with both creativity and precision. Over the years, I’ve developed hands-on experience in everything from architectural planning to custom furnishings, décor, and full-scale home renovations.

My style leans toward casual elegance: clean lines, soft textures, and a sense of calm that makes a house feel like home. Whether I’m planning your new build or reimagining the space you’ve lived in for years, my approach is hands-on and detail-focused. I believe in strong communication, quality craftsmanship, and taking care that every decision supports the way you want to live.

Designing a home is a big step. My job is to eliminate the guesswork and guide you through the process with clarity, creativity, and experience, so you can enjoy both the journey and the result. Let’s make your home a true reflection of you!

> Suzanne Rugg was great to work with! We hired her to redesign our kitchen, bathrooms, and fully furnish our second home. Her ideas and suggestions were just what I needed to have a better picture of what I wanted the interior of my home to look like. As our projects are coming to a completion, I couldn’t be happier with the results. The overall experience was very positive and fun! I highly recommend Suzanne!

**★★★★★ — Chris Mozilo, Sept. 2017**

> Suzi is amazing!!! She designed and managed a complete remodel of our home. We learned that we can completely trust Suzi to create something beautiful that fit our taste.

**★★★★★ — Jen Gordon Mozilo, Sept. 2017**

> Suzi, did an amazing job with our remodel. She was able to figure out our style and what we liked very quickly. We entrusted her to make almost all of the decisions from the paint color, fixtures, flooring, design and just overall feel. In addition, the contractor she recommended was fantastic along with all of his guys. I would highly recommend Suzi- It was nice working with her. It is hard to have people in and out of your house for over 3 months but Suzi made it worth every minute! Our home is like new!!!!!

**Comment from Suzanne Rugg Interior Design:**

> Thank you Jen, it was a great pleasure to work with you guys!

**★★★★★ — jennifer buchanan, May 2017**

> I hired Suzi after a friend referred her to me for a consultation for a new kitchen remodel. We also needed new flooring and she ended up going through the whole house with us offering advice on how the make everything flow better. We haven't updated in about 15 years so there was a lot to do.
>
> She worked with us to design the new kitchen, helped choose new flooring and carpet options, lighting, added plantation shutters on all our windows, paint colors and furniture. Everything looks so amazing, it looks like a new house inside! I'm having her back for closet design this summer and to finish our outdoor entertainment area for my son's graduation party next year. I highly recommend her!

**★★★★★ — Victoria Stearns, April 2017**

> Suzi Rugg is one of my most amazing assets as a home investor/Realtor. I am able to use Suzi when I come across difficult design challenges in remodeling/designing older homes for resale in today's market. I have used her over the years with my clients and most recently for personal business. Suzi is professional, reliable, organized and has an great sense of humor.

**★★★★★ — ELITE PROPERTY STAGING, April 2017**

> I have had the pleasure of working with Suzi on several projects and feel fortunate to call her a mentor and a friend. She is extremely talented, professional, and is a joy to work with.
>
> Suzi brings great vision and creative ideas to all her projects. She pays attention to detail, and masterfully manages all the moving parts of renovation and design with grace and ease. She is a creative and innovative designer and I highly recommend her services!

**★★★★★ — hbsjkai, April 2016**

> Suzi recently helped us stage our home for sale with wonderful results, our home sold in 3 days! Suzi very professionally provided the “buyers” perspective, helping us depersonalize and still maintain a warm and inviting home. She provided great knowledgeable support!

**★★★★★ — maurya\_maddox, Aug. 2015**

> Suzi's consulting services were engaged for a comprehensive remodel and staging for the sale of our 3,600 s.f. home in Scottsdale. In summary she was great! She was super knowledgable regarding current market trends, advising on how to maximize return-on-investment (not only on what to do, but what not to do!), and how to create the most attractive appeal for Buyers when our home went on the market.
>
> We could not have been more pleased with the end result. We went into contract quickly (within 2 weeks of listing) for a price we were excited to recieve. We highly recommend her services.

**Comment from Suzanne Rugg Interior Design:**

> Thank you Maurya! It was a pleasure to work with you and Blake!

**★★★★★ — anitajoon, April 2015**

> Suzi was great! She had a vendor or contact for every trade. She did a great job of coordinating everyone. We live out of state from our rental property so it was very important for us that she be able to be our project manager. Spruced up our property very quickly and it immediately rented!

**★★★★★ — elena686, April 2015**

> I have worked with Suzzi for quite a while now. She is always consistent, professional and very knowledgeable. You always get top notch service with Suzzi and the people she works with. I get the pleasure of photographing her finished projects.

> Suzi Rugg was very helpful in updating our home to maximize our potential to sell it quickly at a maximum listing price. Suzi helped to deliver an exceptional product at a good value. In addition, she always responded to my inquiries in a timely manner, and kept the construction crews on task.

**★★★★★ — georgined, April 2015**

> I met Susi Rugg through my realtor and she staged my home for resale. She was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I was very impressed with her ability to work so well with others to meet deadlines. I know without her help my home would not have shown as well. I know if I had any kind of a problem, Susi is the first person I would call.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Need help with window treatment for sliding door....** *(in Before & After)*

E

A: I don't prefer shutters on sliders, I agree they are heavy. This is what a panel track looks like: You can get them though a shade/blinds showroom.

**Q: Need some recommendations on deck color.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi. Looking for some color ideas for my deck. I fill the current one blends to much with siding. Something to compliment the shutters. Thanks

A: You could take the color deeper similar to the roof color.

**Q: Granite suggestion??** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have finally convinced hubby to get granite counters...yeah! (I have literally almost worn through the laminate in a few spots!). I am looking for something that will be lighter but still have the black/gray in it and have warmer aspects to it also so if I ever want to paint the house beige again I could. Suggestions? Btw, don't mind the mess or kids. Haha

A: Different showrooms will name their own granite so the same granite I name for you may not be the same name in your showroom. You could go to the MSI International website and look at both the granite and quartz options for an idea. The Quartz will look the same since it's mostly man made. Granite slabs will vary so it's best to go look at them in the showroom. https://www.msistone.com/granite-countertops/

**Q: Searching for a Modern Corner TV Stand** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Shopping online for lights, fixtures, decor and most recently a square rug and a corner TV stand have revealed something interesting. I have two major points of irritation:
1\. Almost every site (90%+) has exactly the same products, all different prices but regardless of where I look I see the same products.
2\. I'm frustrated trying to get the results I seek from searches. I enter modern, mid-century or contemporary, plus "corner" and regardless of how I word it, all sites, even Houzz return incorrect results. I get colonial, flat wall units and ones with fake fireplaces (really?) and other styles not even close to the search parameters.
I am giving up on the search and going to North Carolina to shop directly because online shopping is making me nuts! Any suggestions?

A: Try searching for floating corner TV shelf. You will get a lot of ideas, but will probably need a custom built piece. If you don't need to hold components, and simple shelf will look great. If you need storage, here's a nice option a
carpenter can build for you.

**Q: Farmhouse- from drab to fab \#1** *(in Before & After)*

When we first saw
this house at an auction we knew it would require a lot of work to get
it to the point where we envisioned it to be. Its fabulous location with
gorgeous acreage on both a pond, river frontage and beautiful mountain
views were what convinced us to go ahead. We
believe in sustainability and repurposing. Virtually nothing was thrown out during the renovation (with
the exception of old toilets...) All of the furnishings you see are
from estate sales and Craigslist.
We
had the incredible fortune to work with a great designer who helped us
make some decisions that completely changed the feel and look of the
house. She's
a true pleasure to work with, very professional and can recommend
online sources for everything from lamps to wallpaper and furniture.

Kitchen before- no upper cabinets, no doors
Kitchen after- cabinets through Cliqstudios (Jill Hanneman was a wonderful designer!)

Family room before:
Family Room after- fireplace finally finished, baseboards, fresh paint, new windows

Laundry Room before- no doors, red/ pink paint around window frame:

Laundry Room after- fresh paint (White Duck- Sherwin Williams), new cabinets from Cliqstudios, same butcher block top

Master Bedroom before was an office

Master Bedroom today- new windows, baseboards, crown molding, fresh paint, flowers

A: Wow beautiful transformation!

**Q: Update the entrance** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Please help! What are some good ideas to update this entrance? I'm not looking to make structural changes, just cosmetic. Thank you!

A: I think that would look beautiful Lisa!
