A: I agree, but I think adding some island chairs and perhaps 3 pendants over the island will help warm up the space. If you love the space, then perhaps painting the cabinets would be a welcome fix. Good luck! **Q: Deck color for ski chalet** *(in Building a Home)* We're in the process of building a home in our local ski area. We've chosen a dark grey color for the siding, Natural slate, with white trim. Black roof. The front door will be red- it's called Rio. After consulting with our builder we've decided to upgrade our deck from pressure treated wood to a Trex deck as we will probably not be keen on upkeep of the wood. There are three basic colors of Trex decking to choose from: dark brown, light brown, and dark grey. Which color would look best? I'd ideally like light grey but that's an upgrade we don't want to splurge on! I am including a picture of the house with walkway that will be Trex deck. This other picture is of the siding next to the three deck colors. The only picture I don't have is the apple red front door. I fear being too multicolored and I fear clashing with the grey! Help please!!! A: I like the wood tones too, but you may want to consider the red door up with it, as these wood tones may have some orange undertones **Q: Redbrick colonial - Exterior update** *(in Paint)* Hello - We just moved into this house (20 yr old) and wish to update the exterior. Any recommendations on 1) Shutters (Keep or not, color), 2) Entry pillars (Keep or change to rectangular, color), 3) Trim (color), 4) Balcony (Keep or update)? 5) Door (Style and color). 6) Also appreciate any suggestions on landscaping. We power washed the brick, it looks quite good (Red and cream). Thank you very much! A: Hello! I suggest having the roof inspected to see how many more years you may get out of it. If it is something that is going to be replaced soon, you may want to wait on the other updates as then you will have a cleaner palette to work with. Furthermore, I think the shutters lend itself to the more traditional look of the house, so I actually think they work in this instance. You can consider removing the shutters in the middle of the side by side windows (the ones that are touching) and beefing up the trim to make it look like one larger window.
