I found him through Houzz and we made contact. I described my kitchen reno project and he was interested in it. So I asked to see a couple of completed projects. He brought me to 2 houses he claimed to have completed. One was a complete, gut renovation, the other was new, ground up construction. Both were great, he gave me a proposal, I accepted and we began in late January 2020. It all started well, set up was good and he protected the area, demo was good. Then the laying of new sub floor, electric and plumbing rough work all APPEARED to be good. The first important part of the reno that was the finished product was the new tile floor. I was very specific as to what I wanted, I repeated it and confirmed with Chris numerous times. I wanted a 1/16” grout joint which he understood. I live 2 hours away from this project. I was gone for the week that they laid the entire floor and I was stunned when I arrived to see it that is was a 1/8” grout joint. He didn’t even use real spacers that everyone can buy in a home center, they used nails. Now this may not seem like a big deal, but it is. The style and look was that the grout lines disappeared and the floor would look like one big slab. If that wasn’t bad enough, the grout color itself varied from light to dark throughout the floor. This now accentuated every tile, the exact opposite look that we wanted. I called Chris to come and look and to confront him about it. He arrived and I immediately pointed out the grout line that was twice a wide and too light. He threw up his hand and said “I’ll rip it up and redo it”, but within about 30 seconds he realized the cost and started back peddling. He showed me the nail and tried to say it was 1/16” wide even though anyone can see it wasn’t. About the grout color, he said “well you bought the grout”. I obtained the mfr specs which clearly stated if too much water is used, it will be lighter. he clearly used to much water. His electrical sub-contractor forgot to add a new line to the circuit box for an additional outlet which could not be done anymore because the floor was down. The electrician also put outlets in the wrong places and cut holes in wall that were too high and have to now be repaired. The floor was very out of level by an inch over 10 feet. There were also mistakes made by the plumber. Chris told me he had about 10 jobs going. He would drop off supplies and leave. He was never actually there doing any work and didn’t supervise his workers. He seemed to be very knowledgeable but the work did not reflect that. He was very unprofessional and yelled at me often. He quit and sent me a bill after all this. I had to take a week off from work, call 50 people and beg them to step in quickly so I could complete my project on time before renters were moving in. Not only did I end up paying much more because of the urgency, it was very stressful. Do not hire Chris Behan. **Comment from Chris Behan Construction Co.:** > Once again Dan.
