**Q: What to do with real stucco ceilings** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Our home has vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and real stucco. I love the beams - the stucco not so much. Short of dry-walling over-top is there anything we can do to cover the stucco?

A: yes, painting the ceiling darker than it is would minimize the contrast. With the white you get get a stark contrast almost as though it is a primer coat. You could paint the stucco and try a "wash" of the same color over the beams.

**Q: Accent wall in girl bedroom** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi! I bought this bedding for my girl's new room. I like it, but it's kind of busy... Not in love with it. Hubs wants an accent wall on the big blank wall. Here are some options:
\- solid color with white polka dots (what color?)
\- solid color with some kind of vinyl appliqué (flowers? What color should the wall be?)
\- some kind of very light wide chevron paint design, like white and light gray
\- return the bedding and start over 

Would love to hear your ideas!

A: I haven't read through all the comments so I apologize if this has already been said but, I would move the bed centered coming out from under the wall to created more of a focal point. Also, a solid color pillow or two would make more impact than the matching one.

**Q: Help me pick chairs and new lights for my kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi! We’re in the market for new seating and new lights in
our kitchen. While the previous owners did a nice job remodeling the kitchen,
it’s not really our style. We’re not planning to replace any of the bones of
the kitchen because everything is nice quality and in good shape (except the
lights), but would love ideas for how to make the space feel a little less
traditional.
We’ve struggled a little bit with the table area because
it’s relatively small and we’re a family of 5, so we need plenty of seating. We
had a larger table in here that we’ve relocated to our dining room because it
felt like we were always banging the chairs into the wall, tripping over the
chairs, or unable to access the pantry when someone was seated at the table. We
love this vintage table and feel like it fits the space better, but it’s still
tight. The table is 40” wide x 60” long and when it’s centered under the
current light, we only have 25” between the edge of the table and the wall.
We thought we might be able to save some space by placing
bench seating against the wall and chairs on the ends/other side of the table,
but we’re having trouble finding something we like and pulling it together. We
want to stay away from anything upholstered since we have three kids 6 and
under, but leather would be ok. I found this one from pier 1 and thought it
might work, depending on what the color really looks like.
We’ve been looking at black chairs to tie in with the
island, but I’m afraid it might feel too dark. I tend to like things a little
lighter and brighter. We both like the crate and barrel chair, but would need
to test it out because the reviews say it isn’t very comfortable.
Any suggestions? Is it possible to seat 5-6 comfortably in
this area???
We also need a new light fixture over the table. I like the
idea of a rectangular drum light, but we’ve used a drum light in our dining
room and foyer, so I’m afraid it might be a little boring. The other thing we
considered since the area is small is replacing the light over the table with
recessed light. Any other suggestion?

A: I would go with an off white to tie the lighter island color and backsplash to the dining area as well as work with the more formal dining area close by. You can bring in pops of color on the large wall as some accessories in the kitchen to tie the two rooms together.

A: The countertops are Carrera Marble.

A: I believe the brand is Pinacle and the color Saddle. If that doesn't help let me know and I will look into it further. I get soooo many compliments on this floor!
